osu! is black when i open it and I only hear audio help what do I do I also tried to reinstall it and i can't get into wine yet because it says busy please wait well how long do i have to wait?!?!

Update: reinstalled osu! it works fine now now i have lag like every 2-3 seconds i try to play a map WHATS WRONG!?!?!? forgot to mention also on the latelst high Sierra update just released a few days ago

As I posted before although skipped over, I am also having the lag problem but it is all throughout Osu! since the High Sierra update. Before, however, the wrapper worked perfectly. What causes this lag? It is unbearable. Thanks

These tips were helpful when I still had Osu, but when I had it running in the background for about 5 mins, it suddenly froze and had to uninstall it. Upon reinstalling the game, I set up all the settings to what I had before uninstalling Osu. But now the game won't even launch. I have tried using all the steps in the post but still hasn't worked. I'm running on High Sierra. In Activity Monitor, I see the Osu app active for about a minute then immediately shuts down. I also didn't see the Osu wine commands active during the process.

I've looked through here and can't seem to find a solution for my issue. I'm using a Wacom Intuos P S (newest intuos tablet, also known as intuos draw) when I play osu! and when I'm playing, the cursor will freeze for a few seconds - every 10-20 seconds and make me fail. I have Wacom drivers installed, so I checked to see if it was my tablet by playing with my mouse and I get the same problem. The mouse & tablet works perfectly fine outside of osu! so I'm not sure what the problem is.

For some reason, osu will work fine but then will give an error message that reads,"Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application". I backed up my osu folder and reinstalled osu, but after I restored my backup, the updater opened and installed some files, and I got the error message after it closed. I'm unsure as to how to fix this, and I don't want to reinstall osu again in case the same thing happens.

I'm unable to open wineskin. Its constantly stuck on this small window that says its busy. Anyone able to help?

When it is on desktop it launches but won't launch when moved to applications. Also, when updating, replacing the dll file won't work and would still be ing 17 files.

Is anyone having a problem where when you open up osu! it says unable to find version? I had pressed the "Click to Restart osu!" and it just told me it couldn't find a version?

My osu! opens up at black screen, I can hear the music and I can still navigate throughout the menu but only displays black screen!

When I try to update Osu, an error appears: you can not find a version of the runtime to run this application. Can anybody help me?

I have just found out that if you are in an update loop, you can delete the file "Wineskinx11" (Contents>MacOS) and it should stop the update loop.

This is only if you have updated all of the wineskin stuff beforehand - including the engine and completed the steps under "Help!My game wont start after updating to High Sierra"

This has just worked for me and I cant speak for anyone else but I hope it helps.

My Wine package worked fine until a couple days ago when osu! updated. I've updated the settings, but I get an error message saying, "Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application." I'm not sure why it's happening, but the log I checked from a Wine test run said that fonts wouldn't initialize (with the X11 from the computer). Future runs said, "No X11 fo when using XQuartz!" How do I fix this?

The XQuartz file now just mentions hardware, graphics, and Wine engine used, but now Wine says something that I don't know how to fix. Here's what I got:

Hey guys, I got xQuartz and Wine installed, however I have to cd to the osu.exe file to launch. And once I do this I'm stuck at can't .NET.

Hey the application works perfectly fine but there is a noticeable cursor lag or just some slight FPS issues.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012) is what I'm running it on if that helps

It crashes When I turn on compatability mode and won't start up (had to reinstall). Is that a graphics problem or is there a fix to that?

don't have the logs anymore sorry

Probably some graphics issue.

If you accidentally turn it on in the future, right click on your osu! icon and hit "Show package contents" then go to "Contents > Resources > drive_c > osu!". Edit the file "osu!.pcname.cfg" in any text editor (TextEdit will do) and set the line CompatibilityContext equal to 0. Save the file and close the document and you should be able to start the game again.

help, i have a mac 12 inch (2012 version) running osx 13.6. i have followed all your instruction but my game wont load. in activity monitor it appers but after 1 min it disseapear and the game does not show

Thank you so much for posting this guide! I love osu! and recently switched from Windows to Mac and this guide helped me get osu! to finally run after installation!

Whenever I play this beatmap: https://osu-ppy-sh.tvgratuite.org/beatmapsets/219380/#osu/724015
my game crashes.

After I played any other map, throughout the song everything was just fine until the very end as I was getting my score, the game crashes.

When I say "the game crashes" I mean the application doesn't close. It's just frozen for eternity, so I have to Force Quit OSU.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there any fix for this?

It didn't help. It's happening whenever I play any beatmap.

EDITED: Nvm.. I found out that the skin I was using was crashing my game. (I was using BeastTrollMC's skin)

I have an extremely hard time reading English so I prefer to play games either in Korean or Japanese. When I try to change my language to.. one of them, it appears as boxes. I'm using macOS.

I've tried to search for a solution but none has helped, can anyone help me on here?

This was really helpful!! Ever since my computer updated itself to MacOS Mojave, I couldn't open osu at all... I just backed up the osu folder, installed the google drive folder, and restored the osu folder and it worked for me :) the only problem is the input lag now... but I'm just glad I got it to open right now.... phew! I thought I could never play again LOL

When doing a data backup it says delete all .dll files, (sounds dumb but) does this mean ALL .dll files(including the ones in the 'windows' folder or the just the ones in c_drive>osu?

Well I finally got osu! to work on Mojave(thank you); though a little choppy; but I haven't restored my backup, because it is from a stable(fallback) version and didn't work beforehand. Do you know if I can just replace the songs file with the one in my backup folder and it'll have them? it is the only concern. Otherwise I can just them again over time.

You need to the latest osu!.exe from this website: https://osu-ppy-sh.tvgratuite.org/home/. Specifically, the button which says " osu! for Windows". You should get a osu!install.exe. Rename it to osu!.exe and then drag in into the folder.

So when I did that I got this error message, I uninstalled and reinstalled the way I had done before and it seems to have fixed itself.

Also I just discovered this button in the settings.

I just got a new computer, and I'm currently trying to reinstall osu again, but whenever I click open it just never opens
Is there any way to fix this? OS is mojave

I had the resolution set to 2560 x 1600 (native) so that the quality is clear and crisp. However, when using my tablet, the higher I set the resolution the less space I have to move my cursor around. It seems like once I set my resolution to 2560 x 1600, my cursor can only move within the top quarter of the screen (using the tablet). Any way to fix this?

Thanks for making this guide.

I was having an issue that no one else seemed to have where osu! would quit immediately and the logs would not open (or maybe they didn't exist). In addition, any Wineskin changes I made would reset the minute I left the menu. To solve this I had to remove the quarantine attribute (which prevented osu! from writing) from the osu! app with this command:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/osu!.app

I hope that helps anyone having the issue I was having, because it took me over a year to figure it out.

Thanks for that command. It seems a lot of people also can't get osu! to open and I suspect that they haven't managed to get rid of the quarantine attribute either.

You... don't? Just drag the beatmap into the beatmaps folder and then press F5 when you're in game to load the new beatmaps?...

Hi uh after about 4-5 minutes of running the game, my game crashes. Does anyone experience similar situations, and how do i fix this.

P.S. I used Beasttrollmc's skin btw

I need help. look ! It's posting an error message " Error! cannot write to info.plist, there are permission problems, or you are on a read-only volume. This cannot run from within a read-only dmg file."

What do I do???

Something to note when you , make sure that your osu! application is not in your iCloud Drive. My desktop is linked with my iCloud and when I tried to open it, would not open. Make sure to keep the file somewhere actually on your computer.

I use a Mac, and whenever I type (Let's say I'm playing Mania right now), there are these letters appear which respond to what I type. This causes my mac to be laggy. Is there any way to disable them? Thank you.

pcname will be replaced with whatever the name of the on your computer is. If you have run the game successfully in the past, and you didn't intentionally delete that file, it will be in there. Just look harder.

I did almost everything in this post, all i get when i try to open osu is "The Program osu!.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." This error started when I tried to update osu earlier today.

Please read it carefully. The only thing it asks you to do is to replace the osu!.exe file which will not change any of your settings or songs.

What/which wrapper are you using? Most newer wrappers should already have the framework installed. Otherwise, you'll need to click on Wineskin > Advanced > Tools > Winetricks. Then search for dotnet40 (under dlls). Select it (in the Run column) and then press Run.

I am on Wineskin 2.6.2 and engine WS9Wine2.22. I ran the command and it's telling me to place this file (gacutil-net40.tar.bz2) in the /.cache/dotnet40. The thing is, I am having much trouble finding said folder.

Update: found the file and placed the ed file into it, but it's still saying it in the notes after I ran it

That is a special winetricks folder. It's hidden so you'll need to open it with Terminal:

So I am convinced it'll be updated on my end. I have done virtually anything. I'm just glad I got the game working again. I am a little sad, but thank you for your help. I appreciate it greatly.

I sometimes use translations.
PC: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
macOS: Mojave version 10.14.5
My issue is PC freeze (The mouse cursor moves but nothing moves)

This image is about 600MB of application notation. The phenomenon that the notation is incorrect because the content is about 15 GB

how to freeze
step
1. osu! and open
2. quit osu!
3. move [song data, skin, osu!.(name).cfg and collection.db] from backup
4. open osu! and play =>quit osu! for end the play.
5. exit macintosh(system termination)
6. power on mac.
7. open osu! and freeze screen.

How to fix it now
step
1. backup [song data, skin, osu!.(name).cfg and collection.db]
2. move osu! to dust box.
3. re osu!
4. return to how to freeze step 1

I want fix this bug. but I dont know.

The large size of the Songs folder is the most concerning.
What is the memory usage of osu! when osu! is running normally?:
  1. Open Activity Monitor
  2. Open osu! when it is working normally
  3. Type wine in the search box in the top right
  4. Click on the memory tab

Also, at the bottom, check that Swap Used is greater than zero.

Unfortunately, I'm not too sure what is going on yet but there are several options:
The swap is equal to zero

This is unlikely but if the swap is zero then the system may freeze due to lack of memory. You have to enable the swap if this is the case.

Check for disk errors

It is strange that it only occurs after shutting down.
  1. Open Disk Utility
  2. Select Macintosh HD from the left
  3. Press First Aid and then Run (the system will freeze momentarily several times)

The results will report on any errors if there are any.

Use a newer Wineskin wrapper

There are currently two Wineskins that are more updated than my own Wineskin (the February unofficial release). I don't know what Wine engine version yours has but they might be worth using as the Wine engine is likely to be far more up to date.

If the problem occurs in only one of the halves then it is likely that a beatmap is causing the issue.
If the problem occurs in both halves then you may need to split the songs into quarters and test with all four quarters.

When I used the previous wrapper, it would freeze immediately, so I did not know the memory of Wine.

The bug went away when I changed the wrapper to something that peppy created.
In that case, the memory of wine is about 450 MB

I'm not trying to get more songs, so I don't know.

I have a Mac error. Everytime I go into a osu Multiplayer lobby [On Mac] And I try to the beatmap in osu. It never loads into my browser. 10 Minutes later, it finally loads the osu beatmap page into my browser. Please help.

How did I solve the problem?
1. backup your osu! folder (songs, skin etc)

3. Try one lower on fourm (Technocoder writes)
(1. unzip osu! 20190709-2.app.zip
2. open terminal and type this ↓
$ sudo xattr -rc 'osu!.app'
If you try to open the previous file without doing this, it will say "It is broken and can not be opened.")

4. restore files from backup

too. I tried to do the command part. But it says "xattr: No such file:osu!.app" I don't know what is causing this but your help might be helpful

After updating osu! yesturday, when I click to a beatmap (like on multiplayer) it opens my browser and does nothing, until a minute later it opens the site for it. This probably isn't your fault in any way, but would you happen to know what may be causing this, and how I may fix this? Many thanks.

Unfortunately I have no idea what causes this, but other players have reported success with using one of the newer wrappers listed on thread I've posted. If you decide to go this route, make sure to backup your data so you won't lose your replays or anything.

Now there is the new Mac version called "MacOS Caralina". It only run 64 bit app.so is it able to fix that problem?

As already mentioned in this thread: https://osu-ppy-sh.tvgratuite.org/community/forums/topics/682197, Catalina is currently not available on the current Wineskins. Crossover is developing for Catalina but it's unlikely to come out within this year.

Heya! hmm I'm kinda stuck with my osu app, the version I currently use is quite old and I needed to update it to play online but I tried to the feb (2018) release but it just doesn't starts I tried with everything that fit to my problem in the post but it just doesn't starts up

I use the captain version of mac and the test run log just says this:
wine: cannot find L"unix\\s\\imac\\Desktop\\OS!\\osu!.app\\Contents\\Resources\\drive_c\\osu!\\osu!.exe"
hope you can help I really miss playing the game :c

OK, I tried to start wineskin but it's saying "Error while writting file: The folder “exec2097653463.bat” doesn’t exist."
Well, I guess I need help ?

not sure if it’s just me, but discord rich presence isn’t working anymore. Every time I put discord-rpc.dll in the folder, it automatically gets deleted. Is there a fix for this?

Hello!, Im having problems importing skins into this build. I have my OSU up and running and it can open beat maps. I have tried to put the skins though the files and even tried to select them and say to open with osu but it does not work. Does anybody have a solution to this?

Discord Rich Presence doesn't seem to work any more due to a change in how osu! communicates with Discord.

So, I've tried all the steps listed here and used the Troubleshooting tool, but I still keep getting this error that's in a little window titled: "Oh No!". Even if I try to run the program after doing all these steps, nothing shows up.

Paste the report.

If you're on Catalina, press the "Restart osu!" option after it crashes.

I've been having an issue where after I play a couple maps, the game freezes once, then crashes.
I got the backtrace.txt and it said:
Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x00000038 in 32-bit code (0x4c7586cd)

I'm currently running MacOS High Sierra
With Wineskin Wrapper 2.62
Engine: WS9Wine2.22

What's going on, and how do I fix it? (I have zero clue of what to do with this kind of stuff, sorry to bother you with it.) :)

Can anybody tell me why my osu! just in some day, it won't connected to the network although my computer still connected to my wifi
And just like that, first i can't my score nor my pp
Then i started to get trigged after 1 month it still be like disconnected to the network
I re-install it, but when it was opened, it still the same like the first time, only now it is like when it was first installed and now i can't even open it because " An error occured. Please check your internet connection

Hi! I would like some help about the Edit Beatmap thing. Whenever I'm on the timing tab, it just freezes my mac and I have to restart. And I can't edit my own beatmap and it still freezes if I restart. Any fix? Thanks!

Which Wineskin and what version of macOS are you using? The latest Catalina Wineskin should work without any significant issues.
