Okay okay that was a little harsh, sorry, if anything I'm annoyed because my App store review doesn't seem to have appeared. I poured my heart and soul into that detailed and ionate review and now it's gone... On an iPhone aswell! And I suck at writing with iPhones.

If you wish I will re-write it here though, as I have nothing better to do! Personally myself I plan on sticking with PC-osu though. I love this game, I'm just not so in love with it's app counterpart :D
Reviews are not displayed instantly, as they go through (apparently) a moderation process at Apple's end. You can write reviews from iTunes to save the keyboard pain. Also osu!stream should not be compared to osu!; they are two completely separate projects and games, with different design decisions and goals.
I see. Well in that case have fun reading it when it pops up? xD

That is a fair point, however in my review ([email protected] if you're interested), I compare it to the other rhythm game app I play to soothe my finger tapping urges when I'm out and about, DDR S. Which I think is fair enough.

(And really I only mention PC-osu! now because I want to tell you how awesome it is hehe, and praise you rather than critisize your app)...

P.S. No but really, I'll be a er for a long time :L

Paying for only 3 maps seems a bit too much for me, so not going to do that ):
On-par or cheaper than every other rhythm game on iOS and other platforms. Consider you are getting the game for free, and each song can take upwards of 100 man-hours to obtain rights, map and polish. Consider that , maintenance, new features, server and distribution costs are not free.
What happened to the free community spirit? It's more of a business model now...
Taking 100 hours to get 1 song ready seems to imply the process is a bit convoluted and should be changed doesn't it?

Correct, it is a business model. osu!stream != osu! and never will. It is a separate project with a separate aim. In order to get it prepared I have quit my day job, so it could also be considered a possible source of income. It is also part of my endeavour to try and help smaller artist become more known, and provide them a stream of revenue that can help them create more work in the future, and possibly grow larger.

Even so, I think there is something to be said about offering the application for free, along with four songs and more to come? Nah, nevermind, there's definitely not community spirit there.[/slightsarcasm]

It may be able to be improved, but that doesn't change that a lot of effort is still required (much of which I believe cannot be avoided). Making stream-matching levels involved more than standard osu! maps, as does planning for the touchscreen platform. Testing is relatively rigorous to ensure a high standard of maps. Also have to consider the time spend communicating with artists for licencing, packaging, precision timing etc.

Nonetheless, thanks for your one star App Store rating. The is always appreciated :).

You're right, but it's the only way for the game to exist on the appstore. However, the game is evolving to a new stade, and I don't think it's a bad thing. I mean, it has the capacities to go into something greater, so I think peppy's right going in a commercial system (well, it's kinda hard too xD).

(PS:Bad english wooops)
It is also a step towards my ultimate goal of bringing osu! to the arcades (at least in countries which still have those things :P). Keep in mind that it will in no way affect my dedication to osu!, so if the commercial model does not fit into your values then just stay away from the paid packs and enjoy the free ones? Or just leave osu!stream alone (but to give it a one star review before leaving, because that's the trendy thing to do).

I think people who question the fact there are paid elements in osu!stream should probably take a step back and understand that not everything in life is/should be free. Music does actually take effort and cost money to compose, produce and obtain rights to. Making games is likewise -- code doesn't write itself. Maybe it's a good chance to realise how privileged we all are here at osu! for how things currently work in the community :D.

Okay, that makes more sense, I think from the start it has felt too strongly tied to osu! with the almost identical gameplay, the inclusion of the term 'osu!' and so forth. As a separate endeavour this makes perfect sense and I wish you all the luck.
Just cashing in on the fact that you have a free community game called 'osu!' to promote your new 'business' is a liiittle unfair.

Oh come on, how far would you get if the game was charged, and all maps were charged, this is basically a free trial and done by everyone. Not kindness.

peppy wrote: 73101g

Taking osu! stream as a non-community game, this makes more sense, otherwise I'd be arguing the side that people should be spending their own time willingly.

Hey, I take back being too harsh, I was simply really shocked after believing this would be a community game. I apologise.
I'll re-review it more constructively next build <:

I believe its possible to keep a ion up to give for free. Look at many open-source developers, who don't get swayed by the thoughts of cashing in on their efforts.
I have actually tried to keep it from being tied to osu! at all. I will actually take this moment to remove the only link (the title screen colours) which I placed there just for some fun. Going forward I will be continuing to avoid any linking between the two games that can be avoided from my end, as they cannot possibly co-exist. Of course people who are familiar with osu! will make that unavoidable connection, but we I have to deal with that for not coming up with a more unique name (I did try).

There are quite a few rhythm games on the app store that charge $0.99 and have relatively high sales figures. I believe the model I am using will possibly not work in my favour as many people will be more than content with the freely available content, but I want this to be the case. I want osu! to be played by as many people as possible, and making it free allows this to happen.

Also for those which think the current pricing is too expensive, there will most definitely be sales or cheaper bundles in the future, as I learn how people respond to pricing. My entry level pricing is based on what I believe the songs/levels are to be worth, and what is generally accepted in Japan (as my history of iOS rhythm gaming has been on japanese games). If you consider that it'd be the same as spending a credit playing the song once at an arcade, it no longer seems like a high figure. I won't even get started on how warped people's perception of value is on the portable gaming/app market, but there is definitely a lot to be said.

I hope to start a blog on osu!stream going into these kinds of issues to be as transparent as possible, because I think others can learn from this kind of thing too.

I have not and will not ever be swayed to cash-in on osu!. I'd sooner take it off the internet than do that :P. I think dedicating most of four years of my life to this game can say something along those lines itself, though. Just sayin'.
Okay, my only criticism is directed at you for being bad at thinking up new names <:

People obviously have a very distorted view of the value of digital goods, It'd be very hard to charge near-arcade prices I think...
Possibly with a more definite ownership of the songs when you pay for them would correct that (songs being against an osu!stream , and being available cross-platform when purchased). At the moment, paying money would just seem like throwing away money at something that isn't very retain-able.

But that's my two cents anyway, I know it'd be a nightmare to implement.
I am already making steps forward towards detaching song ownership from apple's IAP system, because it really sucks. The next update will allow updates to owned songs without any IAP dialogs. Let's see how far I can take it.

Will there be a setting to change the universal offset? I have to hit really early  Because of this, I can hit the beats but I get 100s on everything and can't unlock Expert mode T_T
Offset setting will be coming, for sure.
I'm not sure if my review for the game is available since Apple is a secretive ass and/or think my reviews should be redacted from public reading (lol butthurt crapple.), so I'm posting my review here~

My review for osu!stream
Rating given: 5 stars
I was waiting for this app to be available for a while and now that it is, I can tell you that this app is even more fun to play than watching the YouTube demos.

Also the pricing for new songs are quite reasonable and are worth it when considering a bunch of other apps for iOS which has garbage, senseless in-game add-ons that can only be unlocked by paying for them. Songs in iTunes that can be found free elsewhere is about $1.29 apiece, while the optionally able songs in osu!stream are averagely priced as .99c apiece and offer great set of maps per song that you can play repeatedly and never get bored of it. Well I don't, anyway. Plus more songs, both free, on sale, and for purchase will be available soon so it's quite worth it to try.

All in all this is a great game and if people know their way around osu! on PC then osu!stream will be just as simple. And hey this game is free and comes with 4 great songs already so I don't see any reason why you shouldn't get the game.

Sincerely,
Roley

sadly, my ipod touch 1g is unable to it T_T"

oh well.
I wonder how popular this is gonna get?

I'm sure it's going to catch like wildfire, and your dreams of taking over the world with beat tapping mayhem will be truly realised.

I have no issues with In-Game Purchases for songs (of course, I now need iTunes credit, but meh), as it s both pepy and the artists who composed the song.

(...whoa, that's some commitment "^_^ )

Might just leave this here too.
I might give this a try on my iPad... though I guess I won't really get into it since this game doesn't look like it's going to be competitive at any rate.
Waryas
I don't own any android or apple product but this looks like something my friends are going to show me soon on their iPhones lol.
Best of luck.
Well i already commented on this game on rating (which MAY at some point arrive, but who knows what apple does with my rating again ;) ) and on the osu!stream website, but i'll just say it here again
this is the BEST game i could find for iPad so far, and i tried loads of games xD

p.s.: i had to write my apple-rating on the german site because my iPad didn't want to let me use the english site at this point of time oO
Reading all of peppy's comments makes me sad that I don't have an iPhone/Pad to him with
Thanks to use Azure_Kyte for the headline.
I secretly tried it out on my brother's iPad for a few minutes, and I can honestly say that this is one of the best iPod/iPad games I've seen in a while. It's something you'd expect to see from a big name developer. Real high quality stuff. It's a shame that my first generation iPod Touch can't play it, though.
I think you should do a forum for the incoming osu!stream community. You're right when you say that osu! and osu!stream are different. But then why do we post in the osu! forum ? :?
I will setup a discussion board on the stream site in the near future. Currently backlogged too far with higher priority stuff.
Is there plans for any difficulty increasing mods such as Hidden, Doubletime or Hardrock? Just wondering
Yay me reading stuff

i want the skin 8|
Bought it, really enjoying it. 2 questions that I can't find answers to, though:

- Are there any plans to add English songs for DLC from smaller/indie bands?
- Are there any plans or even the possibility of enabling custom skins?
Yup
Nope
It's like an accuracy-based game. :)

Challenge in another way.
I don't know why, it might be my ipad, but the reactiontime of this one is kinda different that the official osu iphone version. I often get 100 here on that sunrise song while I get 300's on insane songs on osu iphone.

I have 3.2.2. Got no multitasking on my ipad for less lags :D
To be entirely honest sometimes I think the mapper forgot not everyone has a playstyle that can reach double notes that are both into the far side of the playing field. My thumb can barely reach the other side of the playing field when double notes like that happen.
Try placing your device on a flat surface and playing with two fingers, or adjusting your grip so you don't have both hands gripping each side of it. I with both hands, but don't grip tight, so thumbs movement is quite free.
Is the store down for anyone else?

Also, could there possibly be a way to set up email notifications when new songs are put out, or should I just check the Twitter feed?
Just a question; how many objects can be placed simultaneously at a given time?

I'm assuming two since the connection bar thing would only attach two.

I can imagine how to make a taiko map on osu!stream lol
2 is still workable, yeah... a single hand can use 2 fingers anyway so... 8D
Can someone give me the graphic elements so I can make a skin out of it?
(Or maybe someone will just work for the skin..)
As been mentioned here ( viewtopic.php?f=4&t=58973 ), at this point peppy would not like the skin being recreated or redistributed whatsoever. This is due to being sure that osu! and osu!stream are to be labelled as separate games, not to further blur the line as having them the same.

There may be a possibility in the future, but please don't count on it at the moment.
If someone is ever gonna make an osu!stream skin for osu!, then it would only be logical if the original artists made it.

As many as the iPhone will allow. I think that's 8 or something?
As a design choice, we are limiting it to two in maps for the time being, until we can get a better sense of what players are going to be capable of.
Given the high amount of movement in this game, it can't really go as high as some other rhythm games without becoming unplayable.
So from now on, you'll only do songs not related from touhou because of Apple rules ? :?
What about vocaloid ? You could do personnal compositions with vocaloids, it's not forbidden !
Well, in any case, It'll make osu!stream even more different than osu!

They are Shanghai Alice rules, not Apple. Vocaloid is a definite possibility we are looking into.

Just asking but why absolutely no Touhou related music? Like did they give any reason or he just said no?
Zun updated his earlier this year to specifically state zero distribution of derivative works on any mobile platforms. I was still working with the that were released when I began on osu!stream, but have had to restructure after reading the new .
Well, this is unfortunate. D:

And all the effort wasted too. All that mapping for nothing.
I don't think anyone mapped any touhou-related songs, Copter.
Nevermind the majority of the initial packs being Touhou.
Oh? So they were..

Tis' quite a blunder..

So uh, Nightcore?

that's a bummer since BOOZEHOUND is one of my fave songs there :<
Was there any reason given for the prohibition of derivative work on mobile platforms?
Also, how does Shanghai Alice have legal standing on derivative works in the first place? I thought that rights for derivative works are held by the creator of that work, not the original.
Unfortunately not. It seems with doujin distribution, artists are restricted to distribute their works "only via doujin channels", basically inhibiting how far touhou music reaches (legally).
I practically almost kind of slightly want an iDevice just for playing Stream. Peppy, care to estimate when an Android version would be released?

Already been said on the official osu!stream Twitter channel that there is no ETA and that it'll be out when it's out.
Now that you mention it, I kind of that. I haven't been following the Twitter stream too closely.
Any word on when it will be back in the app store? From what I hear it will involve replacing most of the songs, but I do want to play on my iTouch and don't want to jailbreak...
Working as fast as I can to get things in place. This month for sure.
¿What happened?
It was brought to ppy's attention that ZUN has a policy where he doesn't allow derivative works (i.e. music themed from his own, by different artists), to be purchaseable on Mobile Media, such as phones and portable consoles, etc.

This doesn't really affect osu!, as Touhou" songs here are available freely, iirc.

For that reason, ppy took it from the iTunes Appstore for a while, to get it ready without violating those .

Azure_Kyte wrote: 442pw

That's pretty flawed logic. As far as I can tell ZUN doesn't allow any of his content to be used in any other games, nor in any way on the App Store / Marketplace. Of course, you are in charge of your own s here so that doesn't concern me at the moment.

Hmm, does this includes music from touhou games? Anyway, it's not that free.
I did directly with specific details, so it is safe to say yes.

See http://osustream.com/ for further details.
Interestingly Bad Apple and Cirno's Perfect Math Class were used in the game named Music GunGun 2. Anyway Zun doesn't want to use touhou remixes in apps, seems we have no choice... I'll wait.
Music GunGun was released by Taito. ZUN used to work for Taito. Maybe something to do with it :).
Finally got around to posting haha. After playing, I can safely say that it's very fun to play, and it even got my brother into it! XD Looking forward to the new versions (more songs especially, since I don't like most of the songs available atm, not to mention spacing is really screwy lol) :D
Question about the online ranking - would we need to replay the songs for the scores to be submitted? :O

Overall, cool game, actually someone asked me how I got so good if I'd only been playing for a couple of days and I was like, lol yea, I played the PC version XD

EvianBubble wrote: o138

It's not "screwy" as it has been through a pretty strenuous QC process. It is different to PC osu! (constant distance spacing) but has to be in order to be playable on small screens. Future maps will feature similar spacing.

EvianBubble wrote: o138

Most of the songs you have won't be available for ranking. The ones that will be will need to be replayed, yes.

Wow, thanks for the reply! :O I guess I am just so used to PC spacing that stream's is messing me up :P Eagerly awaiting the next version :3
Does this mean it's back in the app store now? *Goes to check anyway, making this post meaningless*
Just to clarify, osu!stream maps are generally spaced. Jumps are very easy with two hands, which is why you see so many of them. Just like osu!, you should expect to see them at intuitive spots. Spacing with multi-touch patterns is something of an oxymoron but one of the two objects will usually be spaced, and these patterns should be obvious because of connecting lines.

Likewise, large spacing is easier to see and play, so it gets used on all difficulties.

I was just wondering if the game is out on the Itunes store yet because I still can't find it.(Maybe because i'm in China for vacation?)
The game has been temporarily recalled from the appstore because a very large portion of the library was discovered to be illegal. (Note that it seems to be the developers who noticed the problem rather than iTunes complaining in case that wasn't clear).
I think you completely missed the point there.

It's more like he got permission to use touhou songs from ZUN, but ZUN changed his policy for usage of his works so the app had to be pulled.
