Oh, that sucks. I thought you could, because i saw some live plays by Rucker and apparently he uses gen 2 tablet with gen 3 pen. Go figure.
I'm not sure about it, just googled. Try to Wacom tech or PM Rucker.
Bamboo + intous are the best tablets all of them works, all you need is training with them so .

(using a Wacom intous 4 with a small area 1/4 of the size)

I hate how they sell different tablets in Asia, the USA and the EU.
But reading through this thread helped me a lot, got myself a Wacom Intuos 5 and wow, it's really good and actually responds without any (noticeable)delay.
Thanks for this thread!

If you activate a circle when you press down you can fix that, i googled a bit and found out that you have to disable a think in W7 and the ring got removed. it basicly it right klicks everytime you press it down.
ann_old
nah, I already fixed all that, thanks for the thought though :)
with the delay I meant that it reacts perfectly, I read that tablets have a standard delay, but I don't notice it. p:
Hello,
Lucky me I already had a tablet (the Trust Slimline Sketch tablet) when I discovered Osu!. However, it is a very cheap tablet and I wonder if I should keep it, for some reasons:

Even if the tablet is large enough with a good accuracy, the pen contains 2 AAA batteries which makes it big and heavy, and it sometimes opens itself.
The pen is made in a plastic material that gets slippy in my hand after 1min of non-intensive use, is it my fault ? :(
The hoovering gets regularly buggy (immobile pointer) and I need to click on the tablet to make it work (even with new batteries). This made me ragequit many maps.
I feel a lack of reactivity, but I may be wrong on this point.

I just can't seem to find any decent review of this tablet so does anyone knows something about it ?
Since I may use the tablet for other graphic applications, I'm considering buying real Wacom stuff, there are plenty of people who sell their tablets (that they almost never used) cheaper than the official price.
ann_old
It's probably too old to have a decent review of it.
I would buy a new tablet, playing with a broken/old one is hell.
If you're going to buy another tablet then keep in mind that buying a used one is risky, it could be old and have a massive delay. I had a 7 year old tablet that I never used before, after all that time I started using it but it had a delay of like 1/10th of a second. You could buy a tablet for half the price of a new one, but paying that extra ensures warranty and quality in my opinion.
Whatever you choose to do, stay with Wacom. ;)
Thanks for your answer. I was rather thinking of buying a used Bamboo Fun/Pen/Pen&touch. Some people buy one for no solid reason, use it for 2h and then try to get rid of it, most of the time 20-30% cheaper. I'd just like to keep the same area I have now, without paying too much. But I'll go for a Wacom obviously ^^
ann_old
I am aware of people who do that. If you buy a tablet that has been used be sure to check how old it is, hardware also has an expiry date. (Just don't go buying 7 year old tablets)

You don't happen to know if it's possible to adjust the tablet area, do you? (I couldn't get it working).
I didn't have any trouble changing the area, if the "Trust Tablet Control " doesn't install automatically you can it on their website.
It looks like this with me

I guess Wacom totally owns this market 8-)
ann_old
Wacom also doesn't automatically install, but it comes with a driver software CD.
A vitally important feature Wacom products have is "Force proportions" which forces your area to have the same proportions as your screen resolution.
There is nothing to say about the software for this tablet. The "force proportions" option exists ("rapport d'écran" in french, for "screen ratio"), and many customizable parameters too. The only matter is the quality of the tablet itself
Sorry, I have another question now ^^
I can find a bamboo Pen&Touch for 50€ approximatively, and a bamboo Connect (pen only) for 60€.
Is it really worth buying the newest wacom generation ? It is more expensive and it doesn't feature the touch usage, so is it balanced by an improvement in the quality, the stylus, durability, etc ? (I keep in mind that I may use it for occasional drawings)
The new gen is as precise as an intuos4, go for it.

Elysion wrote: 5k76k

I read that it was only more precise for the pressure levels of the stylus (1024, like the intuos4), and not for spacial precision. I do care about pressure levels but intuos4 is for professionals, I don't really need that :/
I'm talking about spacial precision too. For 10 more €, it's worth it.
They have the same resolution and the same active area, how could it be more precise ?
I have no idea, it just is. Try it out somewhere if you don't believe me, you'll see.
will work on samsung galaxy tab? :\
FYI lpi has 0 influence on osu! unless your active area is something thats 0.5sq inch which the driver wont let you do nor I don't think anyone here has that kind of motor control. Its high density count is purely for graphic applications that utilize absolute position data (Not cursor position) for example like drawing a very small circle on a 12,000px x 9000px canvas thats fitting inside a 1920x1080 screen the circle would look like a pixel when drawn on the monitor but if you zoom in it will be a small circle in retrospect its just to pick up the finer things.

I proudly use a 12 year old tablet just fine thank you very much :P

These are my tablet's settings. 0.95 x 0.6 = 0.57 sq inches. My skill hasn't reach yet the limits of the tablet and it still feels really responsive and smooth. And it's just a Trust Mini Tablet, which costs around 20€, not an expensive Wacom tablet.

Of course, I'm still far from being a top Osu! player (actually I consider myself a newbie), but since I've bought my tablet 2 months ago (when I've hit a brick wall playing with a mouse around rank #12000) I'm using these settings and I'm now at rank ~#2000 and the tablet still keeps up with my speed, while I'm still improving day by day in a noticeable pace.

Anyway, I don't know if a Wacom tablet makes a difference at top ranks, but until now I haven't felt the need for a better tablet. And I still can increase my active area if I experience any problems with the tablet's accuracy. So, my opinion thus far is that lpi doesn't matter for Osu!, even while using a small active area.

Just my 2c.

Replays
Also here are some replays of mine on maps with some jumps, in case anyone wishes to see how this small active area plays out:

SYNC.ART'S feat. Sakaue Nachi - Taketori Hishou [Lunatic]
Hatsuki Yura - HAMELN [Insane]
RSP - Sakura ~Anata ni Deaete Yokatta~ [Hard]
Hikaru Genji - Yuuki 100% [Frantic]
That was only in reference to wacom tablets specifically, It has no meaning on non wacom products.

My point was that lpi doesn't matter for Osu! regardless the tablet (from my experience). Maybe I didn't express myself correctly, but I wasn't trying to disagree with you. I just quoted you as a prologue to what I wanted to say.
Can i use Wacom CTH461 Bamboo Craft Tablet ?
i mean is it going to be as good as Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet 2nd g?

and thanks for the guide

I've used different kinds of Wacom tablets and I can tell you that most tablets will function pretty much the same in osu! and you shouldn't worry about it. The only palpable differences would be the tablet's size, dimensions, and durability, all of which you can get used to or touch up in the tablet's properties tab. Other than that (i.e. buttons, pressure features, different kinds of nibs) shouldn't affect you unless you use Wacom products for digital art.
Is this a good tablet for playing osu?
intuos4 small, best

I have this, and yes I do believe it is the cheapest Wacom product in the current line and is good for osu!
If your looking for a cheap osu tablet, the following is a great choice: http://www.amazon.com/uDraw-Game-tablet ... ords=udraw

If you buy the ps3 version, you can install drivers that allow you to use it as a mouse on PC. (here http://brandonw.net/udraw/ ) It works perfectly, and though I am shit tier at osu, [ Depression ] was able to use it as well (roommates) and was able to do well with it. Of course we each have wacom tablets, which are obviously better than this cheap tablet.

Oh yea, its $12.

Worth it if you've ever wanted to try out a tablet.
Just wondering
If I buy the Bamboo mte-450, will there be much of a difference to the CTL-470?
Also, if I buy a pen made for the CTL-470 (GEN 3) will it also work for the mte-450 (GEN 1)?
Thanks
Has anyone tried playing osu! on a cintiq? I know it's way too expensive and impractical but just wondering if anyone's ever gotten to try one.

To all those asking the same question
All GEN pen's are only compatible with the tablet they're made for

They have quite a bit of input lag, so I don't know how viable it is. Maybe if you set the universal offset just right.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

http://www.amazon.com/PenPad-7-7-Inch-G ... =vt+penpad

I'm currently using it, not doing to great so far... Wondering if it's because I bought a cheaper tablet, or if It's just me adjusting to it.

I'll give it a week or two to see which case it is.
Bamboo manga is it ok for playing osu?

Just because its not Wacom doesn't mean its shit and worthless. Just get used to it for now yeah.
Has anyone had good experiences with the bamboo splash? It's the only one I can find in canada for under 100 by wacom.
I also found the bamboo capture for 85$, the splash I can get for 61$ with tax, is the capture worth the extra 24$ or are they basically the same?

It doesn't really matter, I'm using a 30$ tablet, with no major issues.

The only advantage that tablets have for Osu! Is that they feature absolute tracking, in higher end tablets they may be more accurate in of pressure etc. which is useful for art applications but useless for Osu!...

Bamboo Splash would be a good choice, it has everything you need, and all the features that are useful for Osu! gameplay without the cost of the higher end models.

Good hover distance
Area change on tablet (on my tablet I have to change my screens resolution, which is annoying)
No latency issues.

Alright thanks a lot, you saved me 20$ as a student :P
I live in europe, and I cant buy the Splash or other products that were in OP's topic,

So my question is :

Is the Bamboo Pen and Touch as good as the 99 dollar equivalent Bamboo or is it totally different?
Also what is the difference between the Pen and touch and the Fun S pen and touch?

Thanks in regards :)
I purchased a 'Bamboo Pen' tablet yesterday. I hope it arrives soon!

It arrived! but I'm currently staying at my boyfriend's, so I won't be able to try it out until Saturday. I can post what I think about the tablet then if anyone is interested in buying that model.
What a wonderful guide explaining tablets! I may consider buying a tablet :)
I've been using my tablet for a couple of days now and it hasn't exactly been a pleasant experience, I find it very difficult to get used to (which is understandable) and I've been noticing the cursor gets jittery when the pen nib comes into light or quick with the tablet. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.
I should save my money for a tablet now...
I just recent;y purchased a Bamboo Pen & Touch 3rd Gen (I think it's a Connect).

It is my first time using something like this so bear with me... I'm not certain whether i should be hovering over the touchpad when playing a map or dragging with the pen and what is the ideal playing area on the touchpad.

Any experienced s with time to help out will be much appreciated thanks

Hover, it might feel weird for a bit but it is very worth it. Allows you to move faster and puts less wear and tear on your tablet/pen nibs.
I guess you have a point, just the fact that using a pen from using a mouse is a massive step got to have wrist movements and i've always had problems holding pens weirdly as a child

Just a few games using it is tough to get used, i guess practice makes perfect!
does anyone have any clue when a new bamboo tablet model might be coming out? prediction that is. it's been a while since the latest generation came out.

A little ambitious for the same 10 year old tablet in a new wrapper :P

They'll push another one out when they find a decent whistle & bell to bolt onto it. It was mostly about wireless this time around.
Does anyone write with their left hand but use their mouse with the right? Or vice-versa. Because I do, and I'm unsure of whether to get a tablet. My rhythm sucks with my right hand, so pressing Z/X is going to be difficult if I have to use the stylus with my left hand. For those that have a different mouse-hand to their pen-hand, which hand do you use your tablet stylus with?

Sorry if that's confusing, I don't think I can word it any better.
nice guide :O
Will I be able to hover my pen with the bamboo splash?

by hovering I meant around 1cm

I'm a lefty who uses my right for the mouse, and I got a tablet in March. My left hand is still faster with Z/X than my right hand is with Num1/Num2, but I've made considerable improvement in the past few months. I have my mouse DPI at exactly double my tablet area, and as of right now my accuracy on both are about equal (but the tablet is a bit more consistent). I researched and got a zero-acceleration mouse so the difference between them aren't as big (aside from the feel), but assuming you have a more basic mouse or a laser mouse, you'll notice a big boost in accuracy with the tablet once you get used to it.
It doesn't matter if you're using a Pen&Touch or a normal 'Pen' tablet when playing osu! right? (Wacom Bamboo)

The "Touch" feature is multitouch with your fingers. Since you'll be using the pen when playing osu!, it won't matter. (My Bamboo Capture is a Pen&Touch tablet, and TBH I've disabled the multitouch feature because I never use it).
Also I just started osu, if I do end up getting a tablet, it will more then likely be Wacom Bamboo Capture Pen and Touch Tablet
Thanks OP!
zozozofun
Wacom Bamboo Pen CTL-470, just that.
I play CTB quite often, but never played osu!standard, really. This month I played a little of it, but I hate playing it with the mice/mouse, and I love playing in my cousin's android tablet... So, thanks for the guide, looking forward about buying one.
Anyone use the buttons on their tablet??? Just wondering because my Bamboo Fun has 4 nice buttons on it, and I figured they might be better than wearing out my keyboard (plus I can control everything from my lap.)

My Bamboo Capture has buttons, but they're fairly stiff and have no travel distance. Assuming the Bamboo Fun has the same type of clicky buttons as mine, IMO it wouldn't be a viable choice. Your fingers would get more tired in comparison to just using a keyboard.

Oh, and if you have the money, go for a mechanical keyboard. It'll last longer than a normal keyboard, and it'll benefit your playing/typing. If that takes up too much space, you could try a Razer Orbweaver mechanical keypad (I'd recommend the Stealth Edition if you're looking into getting that, since it uses lighter keyswitches than the standard edition).
Could anyone possibly clarify the differences between Wacom Bamboo models? I see CTH-470, CTH-470s, CTL-470 being thrown around mainly, but on Amazon.co.uk there are plenty more than that, some being very much cheaper than others.

Is Wacom Bamboo Pen Graphics Tablet (the Connect?) a common tablet choice, or are the differently coloured ones with buttons (which seem to be the Pen & Touch series)?

From some more research, I've come to the conclusion that the CTL-470 is a pen-only tablet, while CTH-470 includes touch input also. What about the 's' and 'k' prefixes - what do they indicate?
Got a Bamboo Pen and Touch off ebay for $30, hardly used. I'm a happy camper. CTL-460. They're good for osu right?

Now if I can figure out how to play well with it without my wrist shaking.

I'd like to know this aswell. Also, I can only find the CTL-470K-NL in my country, and not the "Wacom Bamboo Splash Pen Tablet (CTL471)"

What is the difference with the CTL471 an the CTL470?, and then the 'K-NL' behind it, is just a country tag or something? The Wacom / Bamboo site is unclear aswell. I won't need the touch function on my tablet so I won't need CTH.

As far as I can tell, the difference between the CTL470 and CTL471, as well as the several different letter suffixes, is just the marketing and/or the included art software (such as the CTH-470s Bamboo Manga). The -NL is a country tag though.

Still not certain about the -K-DE/EN models there are on the .co.uk Amazon (a German model?), but luckily there aren't any other Bamboo Pen choices.
For reference, I am planning to buy the CTL-470(-K-EN), which is a Wacom Bamboo Pen tablet (no touch functionality).

The Wacom Bamboo (which is what most people use to play) has about the same area as an A6, although for drawing you might find it comfortable to use a bigger surface. Since you can adjust the area, I'd just say go for the A5 one (the A4 might be too big if you're only just getting into digital art), and just use the settings to make the active area smaller when you're playing osu!.

Full area on a Bamboo tablet is 5.8" x 3.6" (147mm x 92mm), but since you'll be buying a bigger tablet you'll have more flexibility with your area. You'll want to play around with it and find an area that is comfortable for you.
this guide helped me alot thanks
Just ordered a Capture tablet yesterday. Wouldn't a pen mouse be a decent substitute though, assuming it's accurate enough that the tablet's absolute tracking wouldn't be an advantage?
'sup. I'm planning to buy a tablet not only for osu!(although that's a big reason), but also for making sprites for my games(C++ and SFML FTW). And because of this, I don't think the small screen size of the Bamboo Pen will be big enough (although I've never used a graphics tablet, so I can't say). So, I found an alternative here.
I've read a couple of reviews of it and they all seemed pretty positive(the only drawback being the pen, which feels cheap and uses batteries, which most likely won't bug me too much). But how would it perform in Osu!? Some people told me non-Wacom teblets aren't great for Osu! and have too long delays. But, this Monoprice does just about everything better than the Bamboo Pen, for the same price.

If anyone has the Monoprice, I'd gladly want to hear how it performs in Osu!.
i have a bamboo :)
I'm using mouse and keyboard, I think it's a good way to play.
Can I use wacom tablets with keyboard ?
.
Types of Tablets

Wacom is the "brand name" of tablets - tablets are all they make, and they're widely accepted (by artists) as producing the best quality, most reliable tablets. I recommend buying from Wacom because of their reputation as producing high-quality products as a leader in the tablet world. They produce three main lines:

Cintiq - "Draw directly on the screen" tablets, these are used in very high-end professional applications, and cost a pretty penny.
Intuos - The Professional line of tablets, these have features above and beyond the Bamboo line, but lack a screen.
Bamboo - The general consumer line of tablets, these come cheap with all the features you need to get started as a hobbyist.

There are other lines, such as the Graphire or Volito tablets, but these names have been discontinued, replaced by the above lines.

For osu!, you are very unlikely to need a Cintiq or Intuos - these two lines cater to professional in graphic design and illustration, and cost much more than the tablets in the Bamboo line. They feature increased pressure sensitivity, more bundled graphics software, and advanced features such as barrel rotation or tilt sensitivity. These mean nothing in osu!, so only buy one of these if you're planning on using your tablet for serious graphic design work outside of osu!.

At the time of writing there are three versions of the Bamboo, all confusingly under the same "Bamboo" moniker (The Intuos lines are distinguished by number - Intuos5 is the latest at the time of writing). I would recommend either buying the second or third generation Bamboos - the first generation Bamboo tablets had the extra buttons on the top of the tablet rather than the side, which makes them awkward for use in osu!.
This is a helpful guide, thanks! I Recently bought a Wacom Bamboo Connect CTL470 I've been using it to play since I ed and I really love it.
Very helpful.

I wanna get one and osu! at the same time, but I am not familiar with Amazon at all. Is there any ways the item could be shipped to Quebec, Canada? From the page it seems they only ship to the U.S.

I wanna get one and osu! at the same time, but I am not familiar with Amazon at all. Is there any ways the item could be shipped to Quebec, Canada? From the page it seems they only ship to the U.S.

I'm starting to get it now.
Since I just got my tablet I'm thinking whether or not to use it, but mouse/keyboard is a bit ok as well even though I saw a video (Just saying) that shows that tablets get more points and go more faster. Not sure if thats true but I guess I'll just remain a mouse/keyboard player c:
That's not true at all. The game gives absolutely no bonus for using a tablet, nor does it even have a way of detecting what pointing device you're using.
This might have been asked again gain, but I was wondering if these tablets can be shipped outside USA (I live in Greece).Btw thats my first post so... Hi forum!! :P (offtopic ftw).

Maybe they meant better accuracy equals better scores?
Hey! Thanks a lot for the post, I wanted to buy a tablet for osu! for a while but didn't have a clue where to start, this makes things a lot easier. :)

I do have a question though, as I'm fairly confused. You mentioned in your guide that "Pen", "Fun" and "Craft" are 2nd Gen tablets while "Connect", "Capture" and "Create" are 3rd Gen. And from what I understand from the posts here, 3rd Gen has better specifications than 2nd Gen. Now, I was doing some research through means other than this post, and Wacom's Wikipedia page doesn't mention anything about Generations. From what I understand, it says over there that "Create", "Capture", "Splash" and "Connect" are just the names the tablets are sold under in the Americas and "Fun", "Pen & Touch", "Pen" and "Manga" are the names they're sold under in the European region.

So I was wondering if only 2nd Gen models are released in Europe with 3rd Gen only being available in the Americas, or is Wikipedia's info about the models having nothing more than different names just wrong?
Please

Pen = Connect
Touch = Capture
Pen & Touch = Create

they do sell both generation models at both regions, they just call it by different names. well, let's just say that Wikipedia doesn't have enough information about Wacom.

Nha its just cheap.
Great for uso tho!
i got a Wacom Bamboo ctl-470 for like 40$. i think it works great and i would recommend it to anyone looking for a bit "cheaper" tablet ^^
New lineup of Intuos and Intuos Pro pen tablets!

Here's the cheesy ad:

and here's the product most of us will be getting. The one without touch features.
Yeah, I think the OP needs a bit of an update, seeing as the new Intuos is replacing the Bamboo lineup (while the Intuos Pro replaces the old Intuos lineup).
i use bamboo cth-470k but i feel like a slight delay on the cursor is it the tablet or my computer ?
and is the cth-470s creativ better than mine?
Exactly my opinion, good guide
