Unbelieveable. You would insinuate that our great James is a maniac? Heathen.
Woahh... Yaaay! *s*
Honestly, holy crap. I've been playing offline all day so I don't raise my playcount, but man, I've actually nearly ed We Are after one day.

Off to train more. :U

I was once just another #900 or worse ranked player. Then a friend recommended James Training for my woes.

Needless to say, I'm in the top #400 now in ranks! And I can no longer use my hands to their full extent!

THANKS JAMES TRAINING!!!

Welcome to the club. I guess.
Frequently playing beatmaps like these when you are no way near the skill level of coping with it is just asking for trouble, since you will risk causing long term t and tendon damage in the hands and wrist. Not only that, but you will also SLOW DOWN your progress at becoming good at Osu! by learning bad timing habits and poor hand control. Repetition can either work for you or against you, because in the end your brain doesn't care whether you do good or bad at something, it just learns whatever you do. If all you are doing is moving your hand around without decent control, and hitting the circles with poor timing, then that's exactly what your brain will learn. Then eventually with enough repetition you will start playing bad at even the slow speeds because you would have trained yourself how to suck at Osu!, rather than being good at it.

IMO, the best way to learn Osu! is to start at the level you can cope with and gradually build up to the faster beatmaps over a period of weeks, or months. I know this probably feels like a long time, since most people want to become good at things quickly (myself included), but I really do think the GRADUAL approach is far more effective in the long run. :)

tl;dr
I agree with Adamskii. I was outraged that this training pack includes only the highest difficulties. I was expecting a training program, not an insurmountable task. :(

You say that as if the maps are poorly made and random. They're not. You need to be able to control your movement and timing to these, hence why this is effective. Working on harder maps from the get go is easily the fastest way to get good at osu, assuming you have to patience to do so.
I actually need to give this a try now. I'm at that level.

1) James Training is is not responsible for self-inflicted injuries as a result of James Training.
2) James Training does not teach memorization. It teaches mouse control.
3) The gradual approach is effective but inefficient. James Training is effective and efficient. Why spend months doing what you could do in a day?

Oh well, op fixed.
I have a question about James Training. I'm interested in enrolling, but I'm a TABLET ELITIST - will James Training still work to improve my osu! abilities or is it a mouse-specific exercise program?
my secretary, ivalset, can answer that.
Topic Starter
Well, we haven't had a tablet student yet, but in theory, it should work.
IIRC first beatmap i played was agony normal, after FCing it i switched to hard already.
after getting 2.5mil-ish i played insane already at rank 800.

never played any easy maps.
omg i improved so much no joke
complimentary (optional) training program:

Ivalset's training

Purpose? more mouse control, and pro spinner moves (not as high score as tablet)

Requirements? just buy a logitech g5 (or a4tech x7 if you dont have the money to buy a g5, its 4x cheaper?)

how does it work?
set both sensitivity in windows to the middle/a knot to the left starting in the middle
set osu! sensitivity to 1
play red rocket rising

After a few tries (after i can reach 2-3 jumps in the last four notes)
i beat himawari and love shine (never beat that before)
fc chikara on first try
few mistakes on the other 2

i still need more practice on spinning tho
P.S. i can easily 300 the spinners on chizu hard now without pausing for the notes next to the spinners XD
On a more productive level than my previous post:

I wasn't informed of James Training (TiZ referred me to playing here, and I've not even been here for three weeks, yet.) Before Suburu brought it up to me, I did the gradual approach. And like Ivalset mentioned, it is highly inefficient.

My play count was murdered prior to playing the maps anyway, but I've managed a huge leap in skill (even if I haven't perfected these songs yet), and I can fully it to it being because I've gained a sense of control while playing through these particular maps. (Quote me and I'll do things the internet isn't ready for.)

I don't think at any point is somebody telling people "PLAY THESE OR ELSE YOU WILL FAIL FOREVER!" ... I think, at least. But for those that are interested in a challenge--at the same time learning how to control your hand-eye coordination; give these a real shot. Focus on them over the course of a few days. You'll see an improvement. And anything is better than nothing.
My progress on ivalset training
maps that i cant FC before and i can now:

CALLING HARD
eroge hard

oh i also got kharl's nankaiyattemo jumps in eroge 90% of the time now.

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

The score wasn't submitted. :o
At least I wasn't quoted! :)

And omg Nharox, doesn't that just suck... Congrats, anyway!
Well there is no need for James training for one reason.

In any rhythm game I've ever played my sister and I have always followed one rule. if you want to beat a hard song, play a harder song.(this is for quick learning you could always keep throwing yourself at the same song and get better)

What James training does do is give you some harder songs :P

adamskii_uk wrote: 50r2t

Frequently playing beatmaps like these when you are no way near the skill level of ...... Blah, blah, blah, etc...
I'm quoting my previous post because I have to it I was WRONG with what I said.

Since most people in this thread have been gaining MASSIVE improvements in their Osu! abilities since playing James Training, I thought I would give it a try myself. Not only have I been playing James Training on a daily basis, but I also have abandoned playing 3 & 4 star beatmaps, and now only play 5 star beatmaps at full speed. Within almost a week of doing this I have noticed a HUGE increase in all of my Osu! abilities. Just a few days ago I sucked at spinners, but now I'm getting scores 3x higher than before. I'm now getting around 64,000 on my 15 second spinner map with no MODs, and I was only getting 21,000 on the same spinner map before James training.

Also, my speed and accuracy have improved greatly on all maps I play. Around 30 minutes ago I got a full combo on Rainspark [Hard], and I would have got 7th place on the scoreboard if I had been logged in. And I'm now very close to getting a FC on both Healing Vision [Hard] and Shotgun Symphony [Hard]. I expect them both completed within the next few days with good accuracy.

I've attached a replay of my rainspark victory below, for anyone who may wish to watch it. :)

EDIT: I've managed to beat the 2nd place score on Rainspark [Hard] since I posted this message, although I was logged out again. The image below has been updated with my new score.

Just one more thing I would like to say. "Thank you James Training!"

This will make your mouse control better, won't it?
Anyhow, can't find the courage to follow the trainingsprogram more then 15 in a row...
I think I'm gonna play every map daily, hoping to improve!
I guess I should thank James Training right now.

I've ed Rainspark on Insane without using my space bar (in fact, I did better with my mouse than the space bar. If I tried, I could FC).

I got an S/FC on Morning Glory.

I FC'd Allegro Cantabile on my first attempt today.

There are more success stories here, I just don't quite them yet.

But thanks a lot, James Training! :D
I just ed all the James Training maps. It feels good.

Perhaps I should undertake some James training. My osu skills are pathetic.
92% accuracy isn't pathetic. Unless you play on Normal. Then it's pathetic.

Breakdown made me break my keyboard in half. seriously. I blame james for such a frustrating map ._.
In two days of gameplay I've played 2 maps in JAMES DIFFICULT.

If you are that James, I don't want to play this maps xD

But people say that if you this you anything ò_ò I'll check it out :D

P.s: tablet makes it easier :)
We all <3 James. Especially me:

Breakdown is the only JT map I've played somewhat extensively and I found it pretty easy.
...since im not sure when or whatever i will make pack 3...

pack 3 will be something like that though.
i ed this before for timing check but no one looked at it so i removed it.

x100. The multiplier is harder for certain other maps that are harder than James Training.

Then when we FC them all, we go:

"Holy cow, I don't suck total donkey balls anymore!"

We go through about five emergency operations on our arm, about twenty keyboards, and twenty-five mouses before that, though. Oh, and three monitors and a window (because our mouse flew through it).

Yes, I'm exaggerating. Close enough, though.

P.S. James Training does help quite a bit though, because of how freaking hard it is at first. XP Seriously.

EDIT: Oh, and our arms break because we throw our mouse too hard.

I was saying the recommended rank. My overall skill increased at osu! by playing stuff like Moon Bike! among other ones, so did this one MD map and a gazillion maps made by this person named "James". I haven't even heard of him before. Seriously.

Oh and James Training helped me learn how to play osu! Now I can beat Hirari [Beginner], it's SOOOOOO difficult!
umm pack2 is not included in the training pack. since i can FC pack 2 blindfolded. (meaning: too easy to practice with)

Impossible. I don't have the reflexes for fast songs.
Then get good enough reflexes for fast songs.

I suggest doing James Training until you get good enough reflexes.

Because obviously that's something you haven't done enough of yet.

flyboy87's experience with James training

Day 1 - 11/3/2008
As I ed the pack today, I was determined to start my training not to the path of glory, but merely to the path of being a better player. Today I focused on Love Shine and Himawari. As expected, I failed the both of them, however, I kept practising both songs (without no fail) for an hour back to back - and it all seemed lost. I could not play them properly. The notes were just so spread out, etna sliders were killing me and I feel that the song was too fast.

However, the results of my one-hour training showed when I played my usual easy songs. As I shifted and played shiny smile from Idolmaster, I was very surprised, I FC'ed the song I was struggling so hard to . Yes, I'm that noob. Feeling determined, I tried to play other songs which I could not before. I used to get only like 50k+ points and had no fail mod on for The Biggest Dreamer (Hard), but now, I shot up to 300k+ points, without no fail. The notes which used to be so difficult seem easier for me to comprehend and it was easier for me to play. Not to mention that, I also surprisingly ed Caramelldansen (JAMES DIFFICULTY!) without too much trouble and most of darrihuka's [Relaxing] maps (Fiesta & Blade). I couldn't believe it when I ed the Insane version of my own map, Winter. It left me flabbergasted for a brief moment. My score and rankings increased significantly today, about #300 up.

That's all for now.

<3 James Training

This is the day of my life :D

I finally finished Himawara. And with that I just completed all songs in james training (With C's and B's :) )

But still It does help :D
I don't know if it counts, but I started my James Training with Chocolate Disco. First I started with easy+nofail, then went with easy, then nofail, then normal. I can it, yeah, with 14 misses and C rank, but the first part (which I named it a "James-stream") is a murderer. >__<
Now I'm trying to FC Crash Course -Koi no Tokubetsu Lesson-... My best is rank B with 4 misses, not bad.

Perhaps I should start doing some real James Training instead... I hope they are tablet-friendly (ie no z/x crap, you can't do that in a tablet pc).
real training = cmc + gojou kai
Will this thing also help me to use two fingers to press on the keyboard?

I only really have 2... well, 3 problems when playing osu! here. First is that I can't get a beat using two fingers on the keyboard, so even on 1/8 beat I use one finger, and injure it in the process while getting a 300 on all of those. Second, mouse control, as obvious... but most notably jerks to the left -- I can't seem to hover properly when it's to the left. Third... well, disk space. I can't spam my drive with osu! much.

So I want to solve my first problem, and will this help? Even on normal and hard maps, I always have a better result using one finger on the keyboard than 2.

EDIT: ... >_> Maps on this thing present to me my weaknesses... like not being able to read Approach Circles when I can't see the Hit Circle (when the circle is below a slider), consecutive 1/4 distanced sliders, and stuff. Oh, and to note, I am one of those slider abs who abuse the slider system in such a way that I don't need to almost move on sliders. Hah.

EDIT2: Hm, at least I ed Love Shine on the first try. But I really hate stack-switching circles, which that song is full off. >_<

EDIT3: ..it was only now that I realized that James is of the same country as me? Wh0t?
Damn, this training is good. I can feel the effects already.
After ~30 plays of Himawari, I can almost it, but I make a lot of misses. This sure is hard, heh.
By the way, somehow managed to C Red Rocket Rising on the first try 0_0

EDIT: Finally B'd Himawari. 26 misses, though >.>
heck , I lost alot of time on this on the gojou kai pack.

Border of life - Done with 471 max combos , Missed a slide halfway ._.
Higan no tsuka - 131 combos , beaten but don't really feel like trying to do more.
Touhou youkai komachi - After playing it for 90 damned times I managed to finish it with a decent score.
Tsuepeshu no osanaki matsuei - Let's simply skip this okay ? Can't manage to get the hang of the rythm at the start. Instant fail gogo.
Ultimate truth - Work in progress.
Voyage and I will will come after ultimate truth.

Heck , Before trying the beforu pack I couldn't even manage to end 4 stars maps. Now I'm pretty fine with most of 5 stars beatmaps , with decent scores too.

: Misato Aki - Cross Illusion (swish) [Insane [hitsoundKSHRば~じょん]].osu
I am going to try it .
Wow, I haven't played osu! for even a week yet (I've played other music games such as Stepmania on keyboard before though) and I wanted to just see how hard these songs actually are. And they are really hard :D

But I was surprised that only after ing the first pack yesterday, I could one song today already. Yesterday when I tried them for the couple of first times, I could get like 50% accuracy tops and my life bar would be constantly at 0%. And I'm nowhere near rank #2000 or anything yet either.

So, only one song ed and with a BAD score but atleast this gave me a huge confidence boost! Thanks for these songs!

Now I'm off to try some more of the songs and probably try some songs that were really tough for me earlier on and see if they'll be easier for me now.

Ego boost pic included ;(

Seen any of my CTB records yet? Also Etna sliders are super short sliders that continuously pop out and never seem to stop. And the also they appear in songs like Girugumesh - Break Down and Nickelback - Animals?

Also I use a Light Lazer mouse myself. works perfectly and is very easy to control. =P

There's, uhhh, "Pokebis" training somewhere. I'll edit this post with a link to it sometime.

Edit: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5456

A couple things to mention:
1) The difference between these two training regimen is huge.

2) James Training doesn't really have a minimum required skill level, it's basically just "play this map and maps similar to it until you get better". For some reason, these maps are sickeningly effective at drilling skill into the heads of those who decide to play them.
