Added another optional for spinners. Only needed if you play hidden mod. This should make spinners a bit easier with hidden mod. Will be included in the future.

the normal ones are smaller than the HD ones.
Random, Nightcore, Perfect and Fade-In mod icons are 50x47 instead of 69x65.

I don't see me finishing this skin any time soon. It is done and complete though, just a few tweaks.
I have stopped playing OSU till I play a ranked map made by shaneoyo. I am addicted to Final Fantasy XIV.
I found a missing element: menu-background.png - the custom background that osu! ers get.

New update out for UI. Some elements still need redesign. (Mainly taiko) These will be part of the optimization update.

Thanks. I should have the final release ready tonight.

There will not be custom hitsounds though, and that will be explained tonight.

Final version is out. Below is the explanation on why I will not do custom hitsounds, and why they were reverted back to the default.

Sounds are usually broke into 3 parts. Low, Mid and High. The low end is your bass, mid is your sounds like snares, and high is your high hats. Sound only have so much room to fight each other for air space. So if you play two kick drums at the same time and if they are both at 100hz, then the loudest one will be heard. If they are both heard, then it is muddy and sound messy. This is where the problem comes in at. It is recommended at sounds are kept under -3db. This is how a loudest of sound is measure. -3db is suggested so you don't blow your sound system from playing noise too loud. This is great and all, so I know how loud to make my hitsounds. However there are tricks to make your sound louder and still be under -3db. This is called compression. Not sure how to explain it into detail, but it basically takes all your sounds, bumps them up to as loud as they can, but makes it so they don't go over the line. It is good though. It can make or break a song from sounding completely different and it is a common technique used in mastering (making sure everything sounds good and processed before you finalized it) sounds.

To make it simple, I can add a compressor to my hit sounds to try to drown out the music in OSU a bit. However each song is master differently, so it would be rather time consuming. If I compress them too much, then they will be distorted. You could change the sound setting in OSU though for the music and effect.

Now here is the other reason I won't do hitsounds, mappers.

Even if I did somehow make a sound that fit with every song out there, mappers are still a problem. Wasn't sure about it before, but I asked a friend that maps about it before I started on the sounds. He told me that mappers can control the volume of each hitsound (or anything that is not a mp3 or ogg file). So that is another issue I would have to try to patch up.

In the long run, it is not worth my time to make custom hitsounds if they are going to be drown out by the music, or reduced by mappers.
2 things could be fixed.
selection-random.png doesn't have F2 in it. only selection-random-over.png does, while selection-mods.png and selection-options.png have their respective F1/F3
and this one isn't as bad, but maybe extend the width of the ranking box so it works with maps with huge scores/combos. example

it's enough to be moved though

I think the white color of the numbers, rank letters, hitcircleoverlay and sliderborder is too bright for the eyes, especially contrasting with a black background. Why not change them to a darker/softer color?
Not sure if this was pointed or not, but the skin is missing volume-bg-effect.png (edit: alt+scroll wheel in-game). Not that big of a deal, but you can skin it real quickly if you want, or just copy paste volume-bg.png and colour replace the notches or something. Everything else is real solid.

Both of these have been addressed and included in the newest .
This skin is absolutely awesome! It did wonders to my nomod readability, and it allows me to play without tiring my eyes, which I had problems earlier. I wouldn't be surprised if this skin would get featured in skin showcase soon :D Great job!

EDIT: Ok, it's done, but unfortunately only version that I got running was 12 trial version so I couldn't disable that watermark floating at the bottom. But I hope you'll still like it :D

Didn't notice hitcircleselects being wrong size. As for the Taiko scrollbar, I left that out because the size was too much of a pain to figure it out. However I have added a quick "hotfix" for it. It may be the wrong size, but it works. Both of these are in the newest .

I tried ctb but I think I'm too noob to give you critics on it. What I feel is that it's nice although I couldn't see the fruit clearly with default skin combo colour, or it was me!

I tried using plain taiko-hitcircles, however a taiko player said it was hard to read. He said he used faces for the hitcircles, so I figure the black breaks up the solid colors and makes it easier to read. So I decided to make my own faces for it.

As for the slider, I tried and tried to get the resolution correct. However any kind of small changes I made seem to worked against me. I may mess with it again laster. It should get the job done though.

Edit:Cinema icon is now skinned.
The best skin that I've used, no doubt. I feel like it has improved my reading and it's safe to say that I won't be using a different skin for a very long time. Thanks :D

My first time posting just to say how awesome this skin is. I really love the look and feel of everything, and I've been using it for about a week now. Currently working on reducing/optimizing the skin. It wasn't too bad...however there was a few post saying they had FPS issue. I noticed a few here and there, but nothing unplayable. I found the reason, but I decided to do the whole skin. At least the main parts anyway. Nothing will change design wise. Everything is just getting resized to make the file size smaller and it should make it easier for low-end devices. That way they don't have to load up a 152px cursor when they really need to load a 92px cursor. That is 120px less that your GPU has to render. Some files may get removed, but they are not being used anyway. Think there may be a few things I will add, but nothing too big.

To keep things short, if you have performance issues with this skin, I am working on. I want this to be the best skin for everyone, so I have been researching and keeping an eye on things.

This skin is great. The hitcircle colors are slightly different, enough for you to pick up that it's a new combo, and the cursor doesn't clash with the hit circles at all. It feels very responsive.

My only complaint is the transparency on the hitcircles. I have a hard time streaming because of it. I was able to make the middle of the hitcircles solid, but it looks really bad if I mess with anything else (I'm not too skilled in photo manipulation)

For some reason I'm not able to add my own files to the skin. For example, my own hitsounds. When I do it still uses the default hitsounds.
I think you should add hit300-0(@2x).png, etc.. to remove the 300 hits from being displayed but still show on ranking .

There should be a full circle hitcircle in the extra folder. Not sure about the hitsounds. It should work.

Oh. I probably should have tried those in the extra folder before asking. And I solved the problem I was having with the hitsounds. The solution was a bit unorthodox but it worked.

Now this is the perfect skin.

I don't think everyone knows how to do it, I know though, but most people just use the .osk which is the most simple way to install the skin.

I am slowly working on redoing the colors. I have been playing with this skin for quite some time and noticed and some colors don't work as well as others. Here is a preview of what the new colors will look like. The colors may not match up that well in the pictures, but you get the idea. No clue on when the update will be though.

Top picture will be old colors, bottom will be new.

It is not a noticeable difference in the screenshots, but they are a lot easier on the eyes.

I love you Uruoki <3. Really great skin. I think this is really great approach to skinning. There are many skins which hurt their s with those SHINNY and badly antialiased elements.
I'd like to ask you how do you colorize the hit-bursts to nice and eyefriendly greyed out color? How can i do it ? Wanna make my own hit-burst but dont how to do it in PSD.

I have suggestion for a good line-style follow-point. You can include it into your skin or at least make it as DLC (able content)
Reason why this follow-point is that its minimalistic and barely visible which make u focus more on circles and reduce the glow.

edit: One detail on it, when playing hidden with this follow-point. The ends are kinda distracting because of the angularity maybe remake it and make the ending and start of the line fade into transparent ?

For just the colors, you can add a Black and White Gradient Map in Photoshop.

i suggest this kind of followpoint but with rework, Making the end points with transparent transition. I mean when u play with this u will notice how sharp and distracting is end of followpoint

You were not kidding when you said this skin was easier on the eyes. I noticed a distinct difference from switching from Luminance classic to the newer Planckian. Great update and great skin. Keep it up.

Wow, the colors at first were incredibly weird, but now I've got used to them. This skin makes my monitor feel as fluid as the CRT monitors at work lol, great job.

I noticed that I forgot to change hitcircle-overlay, but I changed hitcircle-overlay@2x. Is the circle white or orange? The 2x is orange and should be fitting. I should have an update tomorrow to fix some of the stuff I messed up.

Should be fixed now, let me know if the color still seems off.

also i want to say that latest update made the hitcircle and numbers harder to read because they are far less contrast to background, also i use 100%dim (if you convert them to greyscale), i think my eyes focus more to see hitcircles and approachcircles which is imo kinda tire my eyes

Try changing the skin.ini to these colors. They should be a lot more closer to the original.

Combo1: 194,112,107
Combo2: 129,124,89,
Combo3: 220,178,139
Combo4: 149,156,144

It will look a bit weird, because the other elements are skinned for the other colors, but see if those colors help the hitcircle/approachcircle.
problem is that planckian is designed for night and not day, during a day i have problem with sightreading.
For a day there is Luminance standard right?
also there is a big flashing elements which i think is not necesary because...
1. it useless element
2. it take some place on screen u cant see well the background
3. its flashing


hope at next update you will put there a 1x1 transparent :)

Both skins were designed to be used in low light settings.
In the future I plan make a daytime skin that is designed around grabbing your attention.

It was planned, just haven't got around to it. If you want to change it before I update it, you can change them using the blank.png in the extra folder.

There will be. I just wanted to get the night time skin correctly done. I felt the original skin was lacking in that aspect and decided to revisit it with Planckian Locus. After this major update is finished, I should start working on the daytime version. I been wanting to do it for quite some time, just never mention it because I didn't want people to know about it and then have to wait. Once everything is done, there will be Luminance: Planckian Locus and the other one, which I will not revel the name yet. Those two will be the major aspect to Luminance and I will continue to update those regularly when new OSU features get added.

Redon did a really good job on the skin, and I know a lot of people that mixed both of our skins together so I figure I would make it easier for those people. I personally think it is the best looking skin made so far. Redon made the skin really well.
yo dude ! oldschool player of ctb here and I would like to say - fruit falling or more likely circles are so cool I like it and its a lot readable with it and colors etc. I like it but the catcher .. xD maybe its me but I'm kinda uncomfortable by its look :D maybe if it had like ... legs and body :D but it's all so good :) keep it up ! :3

A lot of mouse s prefer a bigger cursor.
To make this skin more friendly to mouse s i think there should be and bigger cursor
This nice pink cursor should be same size as default osu cursor one in my opinion.
I tried to upscale it but it looks ugly and blurry...

edit: in skin.ini there is option that change menu glow,
MenuGlow: 0,0,0 - this make menu glow 100% transparent which is in my opinion better
MenuGlow: 216,163,117 - i think this color is nice but at higher bpm the screen is all in fire and glow like crazy which isnt very good :) but thats just my opinion

For mania:
I think mania-hit0.png is too bright red, i think it will be better to tone it down a BIT,
and or scale down the hit bursts so they dont take so much space on screen.
Also i think it will be much better to make mania-hit300g.png look like "320"
because hit value of Rainbow 300 or MAX is 320, while normal 300 is value of 300.

I really like this idea, but, I'm pretty pessimistic about this.
Working out the science of the colours, applying them and then making them UI friendly will certainly take a lot of effort.

Had it set to 0,0,0 but changed it because rachel gifted me er. Since it was my first time having er I was playing around with it.

New update to fix Taiko drums.

Edit: I think I am pretty happy with the Planckian Locus skin and will most likely start on the day time version of Luminance tomorrow. Mainly depends on how I feel.
