There has been some requests on when the next osu! beatmapping contest will be, so without further ado, here is #4!

Nice :3
Goodluck to all :)
For the rankability of the easiest difficulty in this contest will 3.24 or 3.00 be used?

Oh I want to try maybe >w<
Cool beans
I wonder who will go for the first song though because... 4:38 :D
Good luck ^.^
Definitely gonna give a try. I've been waiting so long for that contest :).
Goodluck to all mappers! Show us everything you have 8-)
Elite Mapper 2013

Good Luck! :D
awesome
Good luck to all mappers. (maybe include me, because i might be here, not sure yet)
Goodluck~
Very surprised to see the HotD song in there! If only I had the time to map lately... The rules describe exactly the type of maps I always make, three diffs. with no special types for Taiko or CtB or Mania. Plus, the one song I recognize is nice and short. Shame the timing isn't up to snuff right now. That furthers makes me think I shouldn't try to this. xD But good luck to the other participants! Can't wait to see what these judges consider as good maps... Heh! No pressure. B)
Ahh~

Good luck to all ^^

Damn, this is so cool, but why even participate now. There'll be half a billion mapsets to these songs in just a few days, so it's not use starting now. =_=
Good luck to you all beatmapping participants out there! Ganbatte(Do your best)! :)
*orgasm*
sadly, no interest in mapping these songs, so i'll . but good luck to all who enter :)

Don't worry. Mapsets which aren't fitting in criteria will be ignored.
:) :) :) :) :) Good Luck On Editing Beatmap Who Participate :) :) :) :) :)
I can't wait to see how this plays out! :D
Good luck for everyone who enter. :D
Interesting o3o waaaah
Let's give it a try :)

Good luck to everyone! :3
2 min anime map + 2 long non-anime maps

inb4 100+ entries for anime and 2 entries for the others

entering for Infected Mushroom one, btw
Isn't the Sonic track a bit long? It's awfully repetitious as well. All of these songs almost make me want to have a shot at this, but I'll probably become unhealthily stressed. Really not sure if I want that.
Oh no

My slot :<
If team aren't judges, can they participate?
Yes
Everone if free to partecipate, if they don't judge.
SWEET
Why do I get the feeling that despite Fuss Fuzz's default snap divisor being 1/3 we'll get some entrants shoving 1/4 streams in there anyways? >_>
not the best choice for videogame song :|

This would reduce the work for the judges :P

Anyway, I think this contest is a great opportunity for many people who haven't tried mapping 1/3-songs yet.
Song 2 is sooooooo good. :D

Let's see what good works we'll get. :D
Do these need to be hitsounded? (question for ztrot / Loctav)
I'm ing as the Newbie Beatmapper of the Contest... I'll do my first serious Standard Beatmap for this... Good luck to all!!~ :P
I'm impressed!

Rooftop Run is from a game called Sonic Generations. Now as most of you know Sonic uses songs that are meant to be a tad bit repetitive so they can repeat sections and have it still work. This does not work when in a mapping competition for a song. Repetitiveness is something that isn't liked by every mapper. So it would be a very biased vote. It's already a known fact that anyone who does "Rooftop Run" will not win this competition.

As you can see, even the judges agree with this.
"Rooftop Run" is the longest song in this whole collection we have to choose from and its the most repetitive.
It should be cut like all the other songs.

"Pink Nightmares", is a song by Infected Mushrrom and when listening to the full song and this cut version, you will realize that whoever shortened this clip, cut out the least mappable and worst parts of the song.
Link to Full Song here.

In the editor the song was timed as "144.993" BPM. How lazy can you get. This song is created by a computer. It's 145 bpm but it seems like whoever retrieved this song was too lazy to get a correct encoded version.
Artists don't just put decimal bpm. Especially 3 places out.

Maddy agrees.

Maddy agrees again.

I expect this to be changed. (And that shitty fade out.)

"Fuss Fuzz" is also a very repetitive song but the vocals save it. Have fun mapping on vocals for a 2 minute anime song that was apparently shortened. Pick a better song. It was timed wrong originally too. This has been brought up.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So in all honesty:

Based on the posts of this thread and the people I have spoken to. All of them have agreed. Out of the judges I spoke to. All agreed. that's 2/4 judges though. Couldn't the rest. Maddy a well known mapper and an amazing one at the also agrees. D33d an avid modder and speaker in #modhelp agrees.

It feels like this competition was made just to be difficult to the mappers and stressful. "See who can make the better shit."

Please take this all into consideration. Goodbye. Thanks to all for the .
pls im not anarchistk
Its all Maddys fault

On topic though some suggestions:

Nice having three categories, but what about a vote with 5 songs from each category to let the community decide what to map?

With all the drama about timing, what about letting the mappers time the songs? Feels like an "Elite Mapper" should at least be able to time the song. Unless you pick some Roze-level track.
I haven't thought about all the stuff that got mentioned, but as I see it I can pretty much agree. I first started to map the Infected Mushroom song, but I stopped it pretty early already because it would even take me too much time to map the part as it's hard too map.
Wow, you didnt even start mapping and you already complain. What a mess.

I did start...
Hey, I already finished a diff on Pink Nightmares :<

Eitherhow, yeah the BPM looks a bit weird and the Sonic song may be cut because of the repetativeness (if there's a good point to do that) but w/e, 2ct right here o:
Aside from Rooftop Run having too many loops I love these picks to death.

And BTW, people who map Rooftop Run will only be competing against other Rooftop Run maps.

Loctav wrote: 5b1v22

Wow, you barely read his complaint and is already saying unnecessary things that don't add to the thread. What a mess.

Well, now doing something actually useful:
I agree with TGOC's complaint on Sonic Generations. The song is a bit repetitive and really doesn't work for a contest (unless you're trying to see who makes a less boring map out of that song, which... imo, isn't a good idea).
I also seriously don't like that 3rd song as it has an EXTREMELY repetitive beat, forcing people to map to the vocals, thus excluding any variation you could get.

Yeah but if you actually listen to it or play it you can tell that 145 BPM isn't proper. It's theoretical versus reality.
There is a video version of Pink Nightmare, which the length is 4:15

This will not require any cuts and the fade out issue
I'll try my luck at Rooftop Run. I like the track and it isn't as repetitive as everyone's saying, just involves more creativity :D It's pretty much the "Marathon" category of this contest, as it's going to be hard to get 3 diffs done by the deadline.

Disregarding the song itself (I haven't actually checked it), you're wrong about this at least. It isn't that uncommon for electronic music to use BPMs like 120.5, not to mention that any DAW worth its salt will have access to fine tempo adjustment to at least three decimal places to be used at the artist's discretion. It does happen and can't really be considered an error.

Also, anecdotes from randoms in #modhelp effectively saying "wow that's odd" doesn't prove that the timing is incorrect. Moreso, if you actually knew what you were talking about, you would probably realize that it would also be incredibly unlikely for the tempo to be altered in this manner by an encoding error as you suggested.
ztrot, you're using Rooftop Run (Classic) and it's not the Slam Jam version? Shoot, I already have 3.25 maps of that track done
I'd like to , but these songs just... meh. Well, I'll be waiting for the next contest. Good luck to all mappers!

Didn't spot this when reading that post, but this is correct. IIRC even the Pokemon devs sometimes use some really... weird... timings.
OMG! I just fell in love with Pink Nightmares!

One part of me says "enter that contest and map Pink Nightmares" and the rest no... :l

[insert something here along the lines of "a good mapper should have the ability to map any song blah blah"]
A good mapper should have the ability to map any song, but why should he map something he don't like and won't enjoy mapping?
Then don't ? I don't see the problem here. This is a free contest, which means anyone's free to enter - or not to enter. I have the feeling you're just here to complain about the songs. A bit more detailed about what's wrong with these songs apart from personal taste would be welcome.
It was just a comment about the songs. Why feel offended like that?
By the way, the songs need a bit more variation. Most of them are really repetitive and are just the same beat over and over.
Verlaren
I would like to try, but the army does not allow for a year, damn ....

I have the latter feeling.
I have double-checked timing and while it is not what I would have used, is amply accurate (within 3ms throughout the song).
