Two maps by val0108 and 2 of his guest diffs are in top 10. I'm satisfied

this is actually a perfect idea... newbie guys just vote for the songs lolTshemmp wrote: 32b38
Well, it might be unfair towards newer of the community (better call them playerbase) but I think one shouldn't be allowed to vote unless one has decent experience about maps (that means a specific playcount).
Edit: or maybe give more experienced more weigth on their votes.
a lot of people are buttmad because their favorite HOLYSHIT500BPMSOFUCKINGHARDCORE map didn't get #1, I knew it would happen l0l.yeahyeahyeahhh wrote: 1u2fm
Lol I mapped it cause I liked the song not so it can win best of 2012. Happy30 and I mapped it just for fun.how the fuck was I supposed to know it was going to become so popular? I guess I'm psychic.chaotic_iak wrote: 47659
FREEDOM DiVE gets the second place. Mostly because it's a hell map? (Considering Scarlet Rose and Mythologia's End are tying for third, this makes sense.)
So most votes fall to popular songs and/or hell maps. A good look at osu!'s demographics.
Congrats for the mapper of Gangnam Style for seizing the opportunity of, well, making the Gangnam Style beatmap so it can win Best of 2012.![]()
Some of you guys are taking this shit wayyyyyyy too personally .
Grats to all mappers of 2012, some great maps I enjoyed this year, looking forward to some good maps this year as well.
uhmm i think you should re-read everything, we are mad because the best mapped stuff didn't even get a nice ranking. And the HOLYSHIT500BPMSOFUCKINGHARDCORE that you talk about actually made it really high.Glass wrote: 29556d

btw I voted Gangnam Style for the madz, and I don't think there's anything bad about the map itself

It's that time of year again, where we round up the beatmaps crafted over the last 12 months and turn to you guys to find out which were the most loved maps! It's been a busy year, with 1,446 maps ranked in total, so make sure to think carefully before choo to ten of your favourite creations. to vote based on the mapping, not the song itself!

Just compare Best of 2011 with Best of 2012. I am not surprised about Gangnam Style but many other maps on the list.Zarerion wrote: 6z4f1h
I'm honestly surprised about the reactions.
I mean, the results were obvious to begin with, why are you guys so shocked?

There should be a rule to ban the vote map unless you have 5.000 playcount or 1 map ranked.
It's stupid I know, but I'm pretty sure of most people who voted here are newbies at all.
People can still enjoy with nofailCXu wrote: 344051
What I don't get is how The Big Black got so high. Most "pro players" probably don't like the map all that much (this is based on nothing btw, so do prove me wrong), and I'm not sure, but to a lot of people actually enjoy the song at all?
Then The Big Black must've been voted by not-so-pro-players that didn't vote it for the song but for the map, so basically it does fit the criteria of voting based on map and not song, but I do feel it got so high is mostly due to the sheer difficulty of the map, and not because they enjoy the map itself (I mean, how many people that voted on it can actually the map, lol)
Ahhh well, whatever.
I'll repost this too. Some of my votes were for maps that aren't in this list but seemed to be really well-received, and it would be interesting to see how they fared.Shiro wrote: 47b
Reposting that. Also wouldn't it be more interesting to have the full results ? I suppose everyone wonders how many votes their maps got.Shiro wrote: 47b
None of my maps made it top 100 as expected. I'm still curious to know how many votes they had. Would it be possible to have that information ?
You realize that the majority of the most voted maps are the exact opposite of what you said here (i can only recognise the big black, freedom dive and val0108 maps, but i'm sure there's more), right? Because, by this statement, it seems you don't.peppy wrote: 73101g
Let this be a reminder that not every player out there plays osu! for no-background-no-skin-320x240-tablet-SS-or-nothing-super-serious-600bpm-stream-maps-all-day-every-day. A lot of people play for enjoyment and casually play songs for enjoyment, and get this enjoyment from the songs they voted for.
This statement also backs the "Most popular" factor, as what the majority likes is undoubtly the most popular, which is not necessarily the best (as it is usually a subjective thing).peppy wrote: 73101g
It is a study of what osu! players as an overall group enjoyed the most. Every person has their own method of enjoyment.
He made it so that players can now make the BG solid black via ingame methods, along with ditching the custom combo colors, skins, SBs, etc. So he probably does understand that that audience is there.Card N'FoRcE wrote: 4x4d4p

You guys have spoken and the results are finally in! Personally I was hoping something to overtake Gangnam Style style for #1, but it held strong with a 66% lead in votes over FREEDOM DiVE at #2.
