After having a successful time using google docs for localisation of osu!stream, I have decided to push osu! over there. pTransl was a great system, but I don't actually have the time to maintain one more system, and therefore this is the best way forward in my eyes.

The document is publicly editable. Feel free to make any changes you see fit for languages you are proficient at.

Ask any questions in this thread.
It seems to be more convinient than localisation v1. Good idea for using spreadsheet.
Shortened url = http://bit.ly/osulocal
is it s of Mod Selection description and each mods description ?
Swedish translation by Saten and me. :>
Got my friend to do some Italian Translations.
I'll take care of Thai translations.

Once the existing translations are repopulated, we will begin adding new ones.
I mostly took care of Polish translations and rewrote some to new page.
peppy, you realize that making this available for everyone to translate is crazy, right?
I can already see someone screwing up a lot of italian translations and i'm sure that if someone fixes them some other undoubtly-smart guy will come and screw them up again.

I hardly see the benefit of this whole thing.

He has a point.

Oh well,I hope this doesen't happen, really. In the meanwhile I'm trying to translate some strings, let's see what I can get...
Contributed :) I tried to make sentences as natural as possible, avoiding word for word translations.

I also made sure to shorten some sentences, since they could be cut by a possible lack of space ("Online Ranking" in song selection -> "Class. en ligne" instead of "Classement en ligne").

edit: I couldn't find entries for:
  1. "Always show key overlay" (Options/Input)
  2. "Enable joystick " (Options/Input)
  3. "osu!mania layout" (Options/Input)
  4. "Symmetrical" and "Left to right" (Options/Input)
  5. "Automatically log private messages" (Options/Online)
  6. All entries in drop down lists and tabs in the song selection list (top of the screen), except for SongSelection_All
Is that normal?
Contributed by doing about 50% of the Dutch translation. Good idea, localizing osu! like that. :)

The wiki is also publicly editable. There's this nice thing called being able to roll-back changes which ensures this won't be a huge issue. The benefit is that anyone can collaborate.

This is correct; newer items haven't been added yet.

I know that.
What i wonder is how you're going to know which is the correct change to roll-back to (if there's the need to), because i don't think you know all the languages the document is being translated into.

peppy wrote: 73101g

Which is bad because translations need consistency to be good.
Topic Starter
We can deal with such issues when they arise. First of all we need a base set of translations so they can be loaded into osu!, then we can work forward from there.
Fair enough, I guess.
Thanks for the replies.
Done with Russian translation
I'll help as much as I can with zh-CHT one :)

11/09 p.s. All done, some translation was taken for reference form the zh-CN one :3
Indonesian translation done~ (Niva/Hinsvar/lufi10/AeroRange/Rei_Fan49)

Really looking forward to see the translations integrated (:

If this is not going to be moderated... I don't see it working properly... see what happened with plTrans :S

Maybe we could have s for each language who can prove any degree of proficiency in English. (university studies, certificates, I don't know...)

Once I do the initial import, changes can be checked before they are committed to the game (when I import updates to osu!). For large-scale changes, I will make sure someone checks them before they go live.

Worst case scenario, I will limit access to the document.

As I said, let's deal with that if/when we need to.
If I recall correctly, plTrans had some sort of comment system in which translations could be explained. I find this absolutely necessary for this kind of work.
Can this be done with google docs? Or do we have to use the forums?
Done the localisation of Italian language, updated.

You can add tooltips/comments to individual cells by right-clicking on them and choosing "Insert comment".
I really suggest restricting rights to edit documents to choosen people. Some idiot had fun and changed some stuffs in polish translation making it look "funny"(not).

I'm writing a Danish translation atm.

Like peppy said. See for example the little triangles in some of the cells of the French translation.

Edit to avoid a double post:
One of the sentences bugs me a bit:

Enabled for the Wii Taiko drum controller and wiimote (not yet).
Make sure you have paired your Wiimote via bluetooth before enabling.
If Wiimote has not yet been implemented, why is there a Bluetooth recommandation? It makes no sense.
Simplified Chinese is translate complete~ :D
This approach is actually better I think. osu! localization v1 caused lots of inconsistency between different translations of the same language (eg. "Add to Favourites A" and "Add to Favourites B" translated differently)
Helping for making a Filipino translation ;)
Cool idea but also tricky.
On pTrans, people could vote for correct translations. Means the crowd decides which one is correct. Here you can simply override them.
How can you determine which translation is actually correct / better than other ones?

Anyway, translating / correcting a bit of german. :)
What happened?

What happened to Mongolian and some other countries translations?
They got deleted.
What we see now is probably a backup dating from some days ago :?

I restored Filipino and Mongolian translations from a backup of November 7 I have on my computer.
All the comments I put on SPANISH are now on POLISH... and most of my translations WERE REVERTED D:

Good job to the one who did this. Thanks...
Topic Starter
You can check revision history for previous changes.
added some hebrew translations, doubt it will help anyone but whatever.
i will continue when i have time

peppy wrote: 73101g

Really? I can't select the option.

(what's in red: "See revision history" in "File" menu)

It would be nice to revert back to the moment where everything was deleted :(
Serinu and I decided to localise osu! for Turkish players so we've done Turkish translation. When can we see it in game? Perhaps, next update?
Topic Starter
I reverted this last night to the correct state, in case anyone was wondering.

I am looking at moving these into the game today, for the next pbulic build.
I wanted to help with the spanish one, but it is already completed D: good work guys ^^
Just a reminder that line breaks are done in Google Docs by pressing Alt+Enter (also valid for Microsoft Excel).

Many translations do not have line breaks at all: Turkish, Hungarian, Mongolian, Czech, Slovak, Filipino, Polish, Korean, Dutch...
Topic Starter
I have added in the latest test build for this. The translations are still not on par with what we had before. This means there is room for improvement just by copying and pasting existing ones. Anyone with the time, please help out by filling in missing sections/langauges from the old resource files available here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16332218/translations.zip. Without this being compelted, we can't move forwards.

And please do note what XPJ38 said about line breaks. You will need to use alt-enter or ctrl-enter depending on your browser/OS to create a new line.

Update:

Languages not yet complete (using v1 translations still, see resource files):
Korean
Japanese
Dutch

Languages not yet added to v2 spreadsheet yet:
el
fi
pt
tl
I help in some little details on Spanish: Incomplete translations.
I check all and the other lines are fine.
... I've posted a note in Spanish translation: "please do not translate Show All as 'Mostrar todo' because it doesn't fit in the space given".

Well... somebody changed it in the last minute before the update and added a dot at the end.... whyyyyyyy????!!!!

/ragequit
I started the greek translation. It'll probably be completed during the weekend.
Chinese translations has been corrected.

Fixed several gramma mistakes
Add translations to "Language" & "Select Language:" as "语言" & “选择语言” based on other language's translation-styles.
Replace several express to a more suitable way.
Going through german versions and fixing stuff here and there
Finished the Norwegian translation(and added a small number of fixes to the Swedish one).
Feel free to go through and fix whatever I did wrong, such as bad flow or inconsistencies. It was all done in one sitting, though, so there shouldn't be as many of the latter, but you never know.
I am doing the Pt/BR translation, since I did not see anyone doing it :(
Copy-pasting from other thread...

I did some changes to the Indonesian translation.

Notably...
Original: "Show notification popups instantly during gameplay"
Wrong: "Peringatan akan ditampilkan jika teman online/offline" (literally: "Notification will be shown when friend is online/offline")
Correct: "Peringatan akan ditampilkan langsung dalam permainan"

----------

Original: "300g:{1} 300:{2} 200:{3} Bad:{4}"
Wrong: "300g:{1} 100:{2} 50:{3} Luput:{4}" (literally: "300g:{1} 100:{2} 50:{3} Miss:{4}")
Correct: "300g:{1} 300:{2} 200:{3} Jelek:{4}"

----------

Original: "All maps have been marked as 'Played'."
Wrong: "Tandai semua map sebagai 'Telah dimainkan'" (literally: "Mark all maps as 'Played'")
Correct: "Semua map telah ditandai sebagai 'Telah dimainkan'."

----------

Some fixes: "Tampilkan daftar orang yang menonton selama permainan." changed into "Tampilkan daftar penonton selama permainan." to prevent overlap. (It's better to say "spectators list" than "list of players who spectate", right? :P)

----------

And basically some minor typo and capitalizations.

I added some notes for Indonesian language as well, as it seems to be causing issues like overlapping issues and such. I need Indonesian players' suggestion about this. :?
To all translators: check Leeg's post up here. All the translated strings (except for tooltips) should be equal to or shorter than the original ones, otherwise they overlap interface elements.
Mercurial
I could help to do the #spanish Translation with Cristian, since everything is getting messed up =/

For instance?
who was translated to russian language x<
idk who it was TicClick, is that you? owo but please fix some V (idk how to fix then i just leave it here)

some critics
firstly: score was translated uncorrect and its almost overlap with accuracy (get annoying really)
example: russian language have another good and small word which is the same in sense x<

secondly: where comes from these ,? and all of words here (circles sliders spinners objects) must be capitalized. but these are not x<

thirdly: http://puu.sh/1t8oe lold at this (missed almost two letters)

Updates have been propagated to osu! in the new build.
Does anybody know where can I see 'SongSelection_HasFriend' in context?

Leeg wrote: 5184l

Thanks!

So... what's the point of that message? O_O
It tells you whether any of your friends are in the scoreboard page you're currently viewing.
Portuguese translation complete!
:)
Gratz Alust. :)
I wonder if "300g" in osu!mania is correctly understood by everyone?
"MAX" would be more appropriate since it is used in the web rankings and even the wiki.

Topic Starter
Please use "MAX" instead of 300g.
Righto.

I think that's supposed to be "Монгол хэл". Not Mongɣol kele.
Thanks.

Fixed them right after translations got updated, so everything should be fine now (except for these commas, because I didn't have any ).
Greek translation is completed.

Also, I'd appreciate it if the word 'Greek' in the language selection drop-down menu was changed to 'Ελληνικά'
Topic Starter
Changed greek in dropdown.
Topic Starter
Updated google spreadsheet style to be a bit more functional.
Korean translation is completed. (maybe... ;))

localisation is little fun :)

When is this work update osu?
The person who made Slovak translation was either polish or really challenged person with no understanding of english language. I would personally could make a perfect translation but I hate slovak osu! community so I won't.

Alright so it seems that new messages are being added all the time. I'd rather wait until they're all there so I can do them all later. Approximately how many messages are left to translate?
