most humans care more about themself than about others. i've only seen this questioned by philosophers, and only in the abstract. after eons of evolution, "this is how humans are" is probably so deep as an assumption that it is no longer noticed as something that could be different.
try to actually imagine a world where everyone cares about all life and grants no special exception to their own or the ones around them. it could help to picture a world of pure-benevolent angels, but who have no angelic magical powers. think about what kind of civilization they would have created. would laws or norms exist in such a world? what would their greatest priorities be?
much of human-world's structure are attempts to patch the core problem of human selfishness, and would be redundant or harmful in a world of benevolent beings.
sometimes i wish to become stardust here and be recreated in some 'anthropic afterlife' far away. to leave this mass-torture machine planet behind and go home. but an angel would actually choose to be here, because the angel-world doesn't need more help, but this world desperately does.
