I love osu lazer. The freedom to play the game exactly how I want is why I moved from classic in the first place. That is why I am extremely frustrated and disappointed by the fact that the leaderboard is not removable in multiplayer. I've looked on the forums/ github for an explanation and the best I can find is that multiplayer gameplay needs to be distinct from solo gameplay.

What is the real explanation for this? Why is it so necessary to force this feature when I, the player, have the option to streamline my gameplay in every other way? Why is it okay for me to remove all other distractions from the game except this? This was already a feature in classic, so why add so many more options for player choice just to make a change that is antithetical to the very thing you are trying to accomplish? Why is the dev team so insistent on dying on this hill? You are already "aware of frequent complaints about this matter," which means it is understood that the playerbase dislikes this decision, and I seriously doubt that will ever change, especially given the fact that most players in organized multiplayer settings like tourneys do not play with the leaderboard visible. To keep this change is to add another hurdle to the adoption of lazer in a tournament setting.

Why does the tab button still display the choice to toggle leaderboard in multiplayer when it doesn't even do anything? If you are going to double down on this choice, the least you can do is stop making it look like it isn't intentional. I'm sat here trying to understand why this ever happened, but I cannot see it as anything other than somebody's ignorant, selfish, or petty decision made on a whim. Change this, or never hear the end of it for as long as this game is alive.

When playing in TEST Open last year, I literally draped a towel over my screen to cover it due to the lack of an option to hide it. It's one of the biggest flaws with lazer, and one of the main reasons why players in the tournament scene will never accept the client.

As someone with ADHD, I find the constantly changing leaderboard very distracting, to the point where it makes the game borderline unplayable. This is especially unfortunate because I think the additions to multiplayer, like round-robin map picking, map queueing, and difficulty adjust for individual players, are exceptional. It’s disappointing to see something like this hinder an otherwise fantastic experience.

Worst part that sometimes it randomly moves a little bit up/down, and that is even more distracting.

I believe all that will be fixed when the leaderboard becomes skinnable element.

Tho, that shouldn't be devs #1 priority for sure, there are many more important thing to do right now.

This will be changing in the next release. The changes to make the leaderboard fully skinnable are queued for the next release, which means you will be able to delete it. You'll also be able to toggle it off using tab.

However note that there will be a new, slightly muted display, showing your current position in the lower right part of the screen that replaces it and is not skinnable, but can be hidden using Tab, except for when in break time, same rules as stable. We do not want multiplayer gameplay to be completely indistinguishable from solo play. (See https://github.com/ppy/osu/pull/32972.)
