Hello, in osu!lazer it seems like there's a pretty loud explosion sound effect happening in most beatmaps.
The skin is probably not related since it happens in every skins I own.

See changelog of the latest release (home/changelog/lazer/2025.306.0). That’s the newly added SFX for kiai mode.

You can turn off “kiai fountains” in settings to disable this effect, but I imagine we’ll have to change it or roll it back entirely because reception is looking pretty negative so far…

That kiai fountains sound effect is pretty loud and can derange people because of how invasive it is, picking a more stealthier one would be best for that situation

Had me trying to pin down an audio issue on linux, as it sounds a little less like a waterfall and more like a cannon.

I'm sure there will be s who appreciate an additional SFX effect, but for many s playing against a black background with only basic hit effects it's very jarring to hear what amounts to a second-long audio explosion.

Perhaps it would have been better to introduce this as disabled by default for client updates?

tysm, i've been trying to disable it for a while now lol

i don't mind an extra sound effect but yeah its soooooo loud, it overpowered a song i was playing and made me lose my combo lol

When I first heard it, it scared the flip out of me. I was not expecting it LOL

This appears to have been changed in the recent lazer update (2025.310.0).

Allow kiai star-fountain sound effect to be skinnable (osu#32267) by nekodex
- Now only plays on "argon" skins.
- You can add a custom sound via fountain-shoot.wav
- Now only plays when the game is focused

Hopefully this resolves most of the complaints.
For those using an Argon-style skin, you can still disable it via the 'Kiai Fountains' setting.
