[DROP] Hibike! Euphonium - 5/10

Drop reason, also spoilers.
Drama felt too forced, pacing was awfully slow, characters are flat, it fails at being motivational like Haikyuu!!, Gin no Saji or Sora Yori mo Tooi Basho did as... well... unlike these three anime where protagonist is a nobody with no goals in life, the protagonist ALREADY plays the instrument (and is great at it) and the other main characters who are just starting don't get any screen time, and finally, watching this felt like a chore.

Also, the series start with a premise of "Oh, their friendship relationship is tense because they failed (well not too hard of a failure either) in a concert in highschool, I wonder how will they manage to deal with such a tense relationship while being on the same band" Well, guess what? it gets solved in 5 chapters.

I have no idea where is this anime going, and frankly, I don't care anymore. Animation was great and music was excellent purely because of Kyoto Animation, if it was made by another studio this anime wouldn't have such a high score.

ALSO, DON'T BE TRICKED, THIS IS QUEERBAIT. EMPHASIS ON BAIT.

[Manga] Shadow house: 7/10 (ongoing): I had tried reading this a long while ago, read the first volume, didn't catch my attention too much, so I didn't continue it (there are currently 15 volumes), however, recently, I had a friend talk about this manga, and they claimed it was pretty good, so I gave it a second try, got to the second volume, but had the same reaction as the first time

was like on discord pinging person 2 like "hey, gave this a second try, didn't get into it", which they responded "that's fair, no worries", and then person 3 comes into play like OH IT JUST THAT IT GETS GOOD LATER, AT AROUND CHAPTER 70 (so volume 6/7). I didn't dislike the manga or whatever, I just had found it alright, and they really really really insisted on it. I personally dont ever believe in the "it gets good", if you just dont really get into something in chapter 1, it's very hard to get into it later

however, I decided to say fuck it, and read it, and guess what, my opinion really didn't change that much, it's true that there is a genre switch from pure SoL to mistery, however, if you dont care for the SoL part you wont for the mistery.

Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou 10/10.

How to make a 12 episode anime, a slice of life, with practically only two characters and manage to make not only the bare minimum (as most SOL do), but rather, an excellent work? It's a series of factors: Starting by the fact they're the only survivors of a war and are exploring the world, and getting amazed by stuff that, while we might take them for granted, for them it's the most amazing thing they've seen. This made me reflect on my own life and made me aware on how fortunate we are of having everything we have. The second good thing is the direction, both in animation and music, none of both faltered at any moment. Detailed landscapes and great depiction of a futuristic destroyed world. The score is also fantastic, portraying the sense of curiosity and adventure, the fear of the unknown, the sadness of something disappearing... It's just fantastic and difficult to forget. Last but not least, the worldbuilding is excellent and, while leaving some questions open for interpretation, it answers you little by little on how both girls are trying the best to survive. I am impressed by Girls' Last Tour in basically every aspect and I look forward to continue the manga as well.

tkmiz is just a fucking god, I haven't seen the anime but I gave the manga a 10. I hope shimeji get's the same treatment.

Shimeji Simulation: literally my favourite work of fiction ever created / 10: It's finally over

Shimeji simulation is my favourite work of fiction of all time. It's the first manga i've ever really followed live, reading the new chapters the day it came out, and just recently, it ended.

I don't believe objective criticism of any film or anime is possible, and shimeji is the maximum example of this in my humble opinion, as it goes contrary to most of the typical structure and rules other works seem to follow, so I will only be talking about how shimeji made me feel.

Shimeji is a philosophical slice of life by the creator of Girls last Tour. In many ways, it's very similar to this previous title, as it borrows much of the narrative structure, however, it turns it up to the max. There isn't a single unimportant line of dialogue in this entire manga, everything has at least 6 layers to it. However, in contrast to other mangas considered complex or deep, (Let's take for example Lain or Evangelion), you don't need to understand the depths this manga touches in order to enjoy it. The depth is an addition, not their whole identity.

At the start of the manga, shijima says the line "I wonder if this is a metaphor for something." This sets the tone for the rest of the manga. Let's analyze for example chapter 4. This chapter is divided into 3 scenes. In our first scene, shijima and majime are buying lunch, and majime describes how her mom didn't prepare lunch for her today, and she feels kind of sad because of it.

In our next scene, they're in art class. They're given a metal wire and told to represent "Sadness". Of course, every student has a different interpretation of "sadness", and that can be seen in the way everyone's project looks. This entire scene is very absurd, and can be funny because of it. In our last scene, shijima and majime are outside class, and they go talk to one of her teachers.

In this section, it's shown that the teacher is an alcoholic, however, they cant drink in school grounds, so they made a hole in the fence, so they can go outside a second to legally drink and then go back in. This is also kinda funny

So what we have now, a little bit of SoL conversation followed for comedy, however, it all keeps the same theme of "Sadness", first scene, majime is sad, second scene, they're representing sadness, last scene, the fence with the hole on it was made of the same metal wires, so we can extrapolate that the wire fence is also a metaphor for sadness

However, is there anything intrinsic about sadness that makes it follow these ideas?. there really isn't, this is just how feelings work, they don't have a set manifestation, it could be sadness, happyness, etc. I won't spoil anything, but this is the grounds for something in a later chapter.

In one scene we have comedy, character development, philosophical undertones, and setup for the future. Chapter 4 is NOT the exception, this is the rule with the manga.

Tkmiz art is very surreal too, it ignores regular anatomy and changes the shape of the characters to express their feelings, this was also the case with girls last tour. But in shimeji simulation, this doesn't only apply for the characters, but for the world too. The world of shimeji simulation is impossible, if you notice closely, the shape of some roads are optical illusions and impossible shapes.

This isn't just because it's cooler, it makes sense. In our previous analysis of chapter 4, everyone's representation of sadness varied a lot. Depending on the life experiences of each student, the materials they had at hand, the language they spoke, and many other factors changed their interpretation of sadness. In a way, the world changed the way they understand feelings, and since people are the ones that create the cities that they live in, it's a loop. We change the world and the world changes us. In this case, the world is surreal, so everyone's thoughts compared to us seem surreal, which on itselfs, creates a surreal world.

It's also worth mentioning that in this manga, the world is as much a protagonist as all the other characters, and this idea of how the world changes someone is explored in great detail earlier.

The fact that shimeji is as surreal as it is, gives tkmiz total creative freedom. They can push anything they want to the maximum. In fact, I would personally say that the only mangas I've really read that are this level of experimental and crazy are weird little anthologies, I mean stuff like panpanya's works. However, shimeji simulation is the only manga i'm aware of that takes that level of insanity and madness and polishes it into a complete, not nonsensical story.

The actual storytelling is also fairly interesting, while more mangas give you plenty of information of the plot and the worldbuilding. Shimeji simulation only gives you as much information as shijimas knows. If shijima doesn't know how something works, neither do you. The world, while absurd, makes total sense. The characters aren't just there for the plot, every character has a life, and if their life doesn't intersect with shijima's life, they wont appear. By the end of the manga, there will be MANY unresolved plots, however, it does not matter. The actual plot that shijima follows is the only one you need to know.

I feel there is a certain culture on the internet, where every piece of media has 200 theories, and every time, more writers appeal to that idea. Shimeji simulation is the total opposite of that, if you don't understand something, it's fine, you probably didn't have to get it. If some really small detail goes over your head, it's fine. If the story ends and there is much unresolved, it won't bother you. In life. You won't always have all the answers as everything that happens, this is the same thing.

All of this combined makes for a story that is complex yet simple to understand. Incredibly original but not impossible to approach. Funny, yet sad.

Shimeji simulation is the most ground breaking and original work of fiction i've ever put my eyes into. I really hope this gets animated in the future. I want people to know something like this is possible, to be exposed to a new form of writing, to enjoy the same joy I did while reading shimeji simulation. And above all else, future writers take inspiration from shimeji simulation and make something even greater.

Romance manga, I just didn't connect to it, IT does have some neat ideas here and there but It didn't feel as emotional as a makoto shinakai movie or had as much to say as clannad or bloom into you, it's just a nice slice of life romance.

First of all this isn't anyone's dish. Even if you're the type who could handle ecchi, Yuel is enough to get you rethinking. Yes, loli ecchi. I repeat: Loli ecchi. And you CAN'T discard the loli and call it a day. However, two other charas might make the cut for you if you don't want to deal with Yuel. Even then, good luck because this work actually challenges the limits of how far you can go while staying safe. In fact one particular part is pretty daring, so......

Let the 4/10 speak on my behalf, unless you're interested in Yuel.

By the way, do not expect an anime adaptation; it may never happen.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni GOU 6/10.

This reeks of "sequel made just for the purpose of making money in the laziest way possible". Has some strong points tho that I won't discuss because of spoilers. I'll just say that the first 13 episodes could be skipped and you won't miss anything, I am being serious.

Animation-wise, was decent.

Sonny boy: 9/10: Anime original by the same director as one punch man and the weird sequel to the tatami galaxy i'm watching rn

this anime is strange and confusing, the animation style is very minimalistic. A lot of things that could be seen as big plot points happen off-camera between chapters, this anime is more concerned about the message it is trying to send, and how the main characters adapt and evolve than the actual plot making sense. It's not an anime for everyone, however, I really enjoyed it, One of the most original animes of recent times that i've seen

The Tatami Time Machine Blues: 9/10

this is just kinda like an afterstory for tatami galaxy except not really. It's not really a season 2 either. It's just weird. In the end, it's just more tatami galaxy, it's not at the same scale and scope as season 1, because that was just fucking insane, but it's still just a really nice watch

It deserves a 10/10 honestly, but I deducted one point because one can't fully enjoy it if one doesn't know iM@S at all. If you want to fully enjoy this, you'll need to play THE IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage (ใ‚ขใ‚คใƒ‰ใƒซใƒžใ‚นใ‚ฟใƒผ ใ‚ทใƒณใƒ‡ใƒฌใƒฉใ‚ฌใƒผใƒซใ‚บ ใ‚นใ‚ฟใƒผใƒฉใ‚คใƒˆใ‚นใƒ†ใƒผใ‚ธ) for a good while for this, but good luck. I think you still could enjoy it, but you know, it's made for the iM@SCG fans. Or maybe the anime itself could pull you into Starlight Stage? I don't know, there are those types out there.

btw we DO NOT do that one annoying sound for this. This isn't the anime for it, aside from the point this isn't even the right place for it so...

Oh dear quite some time withoput posting.

Tanoshii Muumin Ikka (aka Moomin/Muumilaakson Tarinoita) 8/10

Man, I had a long time without watching a long series, a 78 episode anime no less.

I can really see why some people consider Moomin to be one of the best children-aimed anime, it has a compelling story, lovable characters, and the topic isn't dumbed down. Moomin is a Fantasy Slice of Life, something that deviates from the norm of most children programming, where there's either tons of action or comedy, just unlike (most of) Moomin does. Moomin is THE anime for when you need some coziness, something to look at and let yourself carry on. As this is a Kodomo anime, most of the anime has a lighthearted tone, and most conflicts are self-conclided in the same episode, that does not mean though, that there is not a bigger overarching story, a story that develops slowly, that invites you to see the world where Moomin takes place.

The reason why I am not rating this higher though, is that I have a lot of unanswered questions, none of which have an answer nor in books or comics or whatever. I'd really like to know what happened after certain events, but sadly no canonical information exists, that's pretty sad in my opinion. Some plots had potential to develop more but alas, I think the series would have worked better with 52 episodes because some episodes were pretty weak.

As a final note, Japanese 1st opening is the best opening of moomin in every sense.



Now that I am watching the opening after finishing Moomin....

My latest anime that I am up to date with are Jujutsu Kaisen and Berserk of Gluttony. Both are good anime, but Berserk of Gluttony is just a decent seasonal anime, nothing more, which is why I give it a 7.5/10. Jujutsu Kaisen, on the other hand, is an extremely good anime that I highly recommend, rating it 9/10.

Muumindani no Suisei (aka Comet in Moominland) 7/10

Pretty adequate prequel movie, with the common trope of having better animation.
The concept of a comet threatening to destroy Moominvalley, while well executed in the most part, it had a very slow pacing even for a movie of just 72 minutes.

anyways, it's by the same author as ping pong and takemitsuzamurai, so it's just a SoL with some drama and really cool art

For some reason MAL has recently put restrictions with genre tags, not allowing you to tag Slice of Life with Drama nor Comedy. The latter two can be together but none of both with Slice of Life.

[Manga] Doraemon: 8/10, weird fan-sequel oneshot to doraemon by Taiyou Matsumoto, doraemon is a part of my childhood and I think this oneshot is neat

it's that time once again, time to talk on the osu forums about controversial topics that most people will say they mostly agree with in order to not seem like a bad person but which are clearly controversial due to the unusually high ammount of responses it gets and that while GMT do not lock or wasteland they don't quite really like as they're really delicate and don't really know how to deal with them

I see all of you copying my threads and posting style so try to copy those, I want drama, I want action



Inside mari: 8/10: I had this manga in my plan to read for forever, but a friend once recommended a video about this manga, and I was like, sure, this is an excuse to read the manga. So I read it and it was nice. It's a darker gender-swap manga. Clearly inspired by punpun (which is a manga I hate btw), however it takes the more explicit and delicate scene with more respect. It's not as edgy as punpun.

The end for the manga is very predictible, which isn't a bad thing, but I think the way that the plot is resolved is wayyyy too messy for something you know it's going to happen.

The concept of the manga itself is pretty damn cool, it says that if you're in someone else body, doing anything with that body in a way is rape. Which is actually a take that I had never seen and it's actually so interesting. The manga also talks about gender euphoria and disphoria, which are topics I like to see covered

not going to lie, I don't quite agree with the analysis portion of this manga. They really praise some pretty standard art things the manga does which I disagree with, I feel there are mangas that do what she praises in inside mari a lot better, and it's not so much an analysis as much as a plot summary, however, in the second half of the video they stop talking about the manga, they start talking about the mangaka, and in the end, about themselves. And about her experiences being a trans woman.

One of the main talking points is how many incels believe that life will just be better if they were just a woman, and that there is a very blurry line between that misogyny and actual gender disphoria. The main example of this happening is 4chan, and how people in the LGBT board on there, while wanting to transition/transitioning themselves they still have that misogyny and transphobia internalized. One of the main struggle is "oh i'm not like the typical trans person you see in media" or "oh I just don't i'm a hon".

Thing is, most of them do , however due to the community they're in, they're self-convinced that this isn't the case and never will be and that they're the worst human being on the planet. Not only that, but if you're extremely depressed and asocial, if you don't interact with other people IRL you're never going to know if you do or not. Because no matter what you most on that board, you're not going to according to their criteria, even if you're cis.

The video then proceeds to make the point that as long as transitioning would prove an improvement in your life, regardless of what your story is, you shouldn't feel bad about it.

I know many trans people in my life, IRL and online, and this is one of the most common problems that I se,e feeling that you are invading someone elses space, and I think the way this video voices out a solution to this problem, while also making a compelling point to avoid 4chan (which every mentally unistable person SHOULD do), I think this video is really good. Better than inside mari itself lmao

Okay I watched an explanation video on why I didn't like it.
The anime wasn't meant to have a plot.
Everything, literally everything, was ass-pulled from the writer, who never worked on anime and thought that making a 12-ep series was like making a soap opera...
That's why it didn't make much sense in the end and there were tons of plot-holes, because THERE IS NO OVERARCHING PLOT IN THE FIRST PLACE. I had the feeling of "I think this anime has no idea where to lead the story" and it showed. If this was more like a 100 ep anime made in the 90s I'd get it but... for a 12 episode anime made in 2021... that doesn't work.

I wish this lasted 24 episodes with more arcs. Because damn, it was too short.

Ping Pong The animation: 10/10: Read the manga, was amazed, became a tayo matsumoto fan, and now I watched the anime because I wanted to also watch the live action I just learned existed and I wanted to compare. The anime was a very different experience, it's overall faster, more concise, and adds some more scenes. The animation is also peak. I just love ping pong

Ping Pong (2002): 7/10: the live action, watched it because why not, I didn't expect for it to be good, yet, it was surprisingly enjoyable. Although I would recommend reading the anime or the manga first, as it's bigges sin is that it goes way too fast, it's hard to tell the story of ping pong in only 2 hours, so they skip a lot of dialogue and scenes, which makes a lot of the little details that made the original story so good are not there, and it will probably be more confusing in certain parts. Still, the movie adds a lot more comedy, the character of peko is highly exaggerated, and I fucking LOVE this version of peko, the comedy aspects (which neither the manga or movie really had), are really good

Since I am watching mostly long stuff and university is screwing me up I will just put a short anime here.

Shiawase tte Naani 4/10

This is the most clichรฉd, dull, preachy and forgettable short ever made. It's also notable for two things: 1st, it was the first work ever by an unknown studio, uh... it was Kyoto Ani... something... and, 2nd, it was created for the Happy Science cult. Yes I watched a short made for a sect.

Music was good, although animation was nothing like you'd expect from modern KyoAni.

(Manga) Hanaotoko: 6/10 The last tayo matsumoto manga I wanted to read (meaning I've read all of their mangas except some collaborative anthologies and one that isn't translated). I personally didn't really like this one but it was readable

(Manga) Shin Takarajima (1947 ver) : 5/10, This is one of the earliest mangas by Osamu Tezuka, AKA: The god of manga. The guy who basically invented manga, so yeah, this manga is basically the origin of the medium. And while it's the simplest story known to mankind, the art is not bad at all, and it has some interesting ling at time, I want to read more osamu tezuka just for learning about culture lol

Bakemonogatari: 7/10, I've seen monogatari praised to death and beyond, I ended reading it basically because of social pressure as I had like 3 irl friends telling me to watch it. And while it does some interesting things, mainly it uses color in a really nice way, creating environments that basically look alien even if it's just a normal park in theory. Still, while the animation is good, I expected something different from what I had seen. I always read "oh studio shaft is so fucking good", so I expected a style that was more inasne and breaking, closer to something like ping pong the animation, tatami galaxy or sonny boy, but that really wasn't the case. It's just really good regular animation

the story on itself is pretty interesting, i've seen that concept executed before, but it's still interesting. Although, monogatari en specific has a lot of things that take me out of the story, mainly all the ecchi and a lot of the themes and topics of conversation. so it was pretty difficult for me to watch at least

I don't think monogatari is bad at all, but for me personally I cant finish it, I wont watch any of the other seasons

Fumetsu no Anata e Season 2 8/10



It took quite some time for To you Eternity to have its grasp and identity as a series, and while it still has its problems like a very dragged pace and its melodrama, at least it was mostly tonally consistent and finally felt that the series knows what to do with its plot and where it is going now. I know some people peferred the first season, but I think Season 2 is way better than the first.

they're not even similar. Metamorphosis is just a really fucking weird hentai manga that got popular because "haha man of culture".

Oyasumi punpun is a drama manga about someone becoming an awful person over time. Showing all of their life experiences and how they percieved it. The reason why I didn't enjoy oyasumi punpun for me it's that it was wayyyyyyyy too much to handle for me. I feel that at a certain point it just becomes torture porn and I'm just not the biggest fan of that

I actually haven't finished many things as of recent (and by that I mean like a week and a half)

(manga) hi no tori (1967): 4/10 (dropped): I'm pretty sure giving hi no tori a 4 is considered a hate crime in many countries but idk. I didn't really get into it. I'm not the biggest fan of anthologies/episodic shows. And I feel that in many ways all the stories that this features has already veen done better oin other places. While at times the ing is really good. It's often wayyyy too blatant with copying and pasting the structure whch is a little bit of a shame, since they were SO ahead of it's time. I also felt the stories set in the past were wea.

(manga) Ginga no Shinanai Kodomotachi e : 2 volume long manga. Weird philosohpical manga and surprisingly emotional. Pretty short but still pretty good

(manga) A silent voice: 10/10: I have watched the movie in the past, but I wanted to read the manga since I had head that it expanded on some subjects, and well, it's as good as the anime, which is already a masterpiece so like yeah

Josee, the Tiger and the Fish: 9/10: With most stuff I try to justify why something is good and convince other people to watch it. Not with romances. This is just really fucking good and I refuse to explain why. I fucking love tragic romance anime movies.

Man this shit was depressing and cynical, pacing for most stories was way too fast to feel any development, the story overall was awkward, characters felt incredibly flat, and everything was too rushed for a 13 episode anime. An interesting concept but way too condensed.

Animation was great though.

I have watched too much shit since the last post and I cant name it all, but I watched all of the satoshi kon movies, gave them all an 8/10

also read the rose of versailes, mainly because it's a historically important manga, didn't get into it, 6/10

before that I read Ashita No Joe, and NGL, this is surprisingly good, it's very old so it barely has anime style of drawing but the story is surprisingly deep

all of the satoshi kon movies are of similar quality, and excluding tokyo godfathers, they're all very similar to each other

so ra no wo to: 7/10, only saw it because the city was based on an irl spanish city and I thought that was funny, it's a average slice of life, but I still enjoyed it near the end it tries to replicate the game-bu final arc (Accidently I may add, as no one except for me has read it...) but they don't pull it off well and it isn't the most enjoyable. Also I will defend that the game-bu final arc has to be one of the best story arcs i've ever seen in my life and and it's in a fucking slice of life, so underrated

NHK ni Youkoso! 9/10: i'm very pleasantly surprised with this anime, I thought it was comedy but the actual comedy aspect of the anime just basically gets dropped at a certain point and it just turns into this actually really cool and at times fairly intense drama. I would recommend it

[Manga] Spirit circle: 6/10: I couldn't get into this, I like the concept but I don't think the direction this manga takes is the one I would have enjoyed it the most, in many ways it reminds me of hi no tori, but again, I ended up dropping that one, so idk

Literal peak, never have I related to a MC before, and not wanted to emulate him just as much. Though never felt the depression most people say they have when reading it (guess being on Antidepressants will do that ig) I did feel the impact though so I still came out of this with something.

I mean I think you are supposed to relate to him with how he handles his depression, not his actions. He's a guy with very bad mental problems, that's the only relatable part. That is what I relate too, not the supreme amounts of abuse he lashes out at people with, the murderous tendencies, or the psycho-sexual mindset of his that just exentuates his entire being. So yeah the mental health problems are relatable, not the urge to be a bad person. Yeah, fuck you.

Night on the Galactic Railroad: 7/10: famous classic japanese novel, a friend of mine watched it and liked it so I did too, it was alright, i'm not the demographic for this but it's well done

[Manga] [On hold] Akatsuki No Yona: 6/10, The first two volumes are pretty solid, but after that, it kinda just becomes a very typical adventure manga and it doesn't have any hook strong enough for me to really tolerate 40+ volmes of this. I haven't dropped it since I still enjoyed what I read, I just think that it overstates it's welcome and finishing it is going to be a challenge

[Manga] Kraunessa the Black Stagne: 9/10: I decided to try to read most of this mangaka's work, as I had read game-bu a while ago and I still think it's one of the most underrated mangas i've seen. This is a 1 volume manga, so basically a oneshot. I really like the art-style, the themes are interesting, I like the characters and the comedy, I just think it's a very strong concept and I enjoyed it

[Manga] Spectral Wizard: 8/10: Art and comedy are similar to the previous, but the actual plot is more magical and fantastical than psychological, it was still a good read but I enjoyed the previous approach better

[Manga] Spectral Wizard: Saikyou no Mahou wo Meguru Bouken: 7/10: Weakest of their mangas, sequel to spectral wizard. It seems that they were really trying to get serialized, it's a lot more commercial and conventional than their previous works, still, this didn't seem to work, as the series never got picked up and the mangaka quitted the industry. I don't know what they're working in now, but it isn't anime, which is a shame IMO

ARIA The ANIMATION 8/10

This is an anime that took its time for me to like it, to be honest I found it pretty boring at the beginning, however, the show slowly started showing me that it was worth to continue it. It has a good potential which has been using, making this simple story pretty solid in worldbuilding and characters.

Looking forward to the next seasons.

Fruits Basket (2019) Season 1: 7/10: Famous shoujo anime, wanted to check it out for myself

I'm kinda mixed on this anime, as the concept is interssting, but holy fuck, all of the characters are so incredibly dumb. You see the first episode and you totally get what the anime is going for, you can even just determine that by just looking at the tags, both guys are attracted to the girl and the girl must navigate that hard situation, however, i'm 24 chapters in and they have not even acknowledged the situation that was clear since chapter 1. There is clear romantic tension between the main characters yet the guys are so full of themselves to realize they may be in love and the girl is so dumb to understand the atmosphere. Still, I do think this anime has some potential, the side stories are interesting and I still enjoyed watching the anime so I will watch the next season

Princess Tutu 9/10



Princess Tutu is one of these stories that really got me engaged from beginning to end, a story that borrows from the best elements of classic fairy tales and plays with those elements in order to create a very refreshing and creative story. A story that plays with the elements and tropes of fairy tales, and makes something new. I really loved it.

Sakamichi no Apollon: 9/10: this is like the complete reverse of fruit baskets lmao, the actual romance moves FAST, the actual emotional beats hit hard, the use of jazz to show the relationships between the different characters is really smart, it's just a really good drama that also happens to have romance

Masturbation Master Kurosawa: 9/10: I avoided this manga forever just because the name but I went "fuck it" and read it, and I hate to it it, but it's actually really good. It's a drama where all of the characters involved are total assholes, however, they never actually glorify the actions of anyone or show them as positive, all of the sexual content in the manga is very disgusting, so it isn't like fanservice or anything. There really isn't any comedy either. The ending is really well executed and honestly feels more realistic than some of the other works on this same genre. The art seems like it's made exclusively with a pencil which is fairly unique

Fruits Basket 2nd Season : 7/10

better than the first but some problems still apply, the protagonists are SO dense that it actually pains me, the side stores are good tho, will watch final season

[manga] One-Punch Man: 6/10: holy fuck how did you fall off this hard, the start of one punch man is amazing, this parody shounen which was actually pretty funny. There are two scenes where the villain tells their entire backstory and saitaman just goes "say it in 20 words or less", thing is, after a while they try to phase out of being a comedy manga and into an actual shounen, thing is, the manga had trained me to not actually give a shit about anyone but saitama, specially the villains, so yeah, I did skip over many details because I thought saitama would just come and defeat the evil guy in one punch, as it was the case for the entire manga

thing is, saitama stopped coming, like outside the first third of the manga, saitama only appears in 1/5 of chapters, and they NEVER fight. The worldbuilding of one punch man is absurd by nature, the only reason why there are fight scenes at all is because saitama just doesn't bother actually fighting them, which makes the entire manga feel worthless.

If it was just the start, easy 9/10, but man why did they try to build a serious shounen in top of that start

To some people Oregairu is probably one of the hidden gems out there, but Hachiman himself killed it all for me, and this is why I refused to continue up to S3. The premise is pretty nice, though, but it could be far more relatable if it was a bit more realistic with this, you could say, but it's an anime at the end of the day, and it really hurts real life can't be a bit more relieving like this, so yeah, VERY relatable. Except Hachiman is a bit too blockheaded at times, hence only half the mark.

From here I think it'll be a year or more until I'm done with Himitsu no AiPri......

Ginga Tetsudou no Yoru: Fantasy Railroad in the Stars 5/10



I was curious to see how was this other approach of "Night on the Galactic Railroad" and indeed, it was different... too different, but in the sense of experimentation. This is an abstract approach to the story with the peculiar decision of literally just having backgrounds and music with the ocassional narration and walls of text explaining the story, yes, no characters at all, just the background. It was... meh in my opinion, music was good, animation was... seriously this doesn't seem like 2006 CGI, this looks like something released in 1998 or before. Just look at THIS.


These are the most 1996 seats I have seen.


Well, at least they did it in 48 minutes unlike the other adaptation. This is definitely something that fits in the Avant Garde section but I am surprised it still isn't, I hope they approve my request.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood: 6/10: pretty bad manga all around, basically no plot, the art in the fight scenes is messy, there is way too many fight scenes, i've been told that the first part of jojos is pretty bad, and I have to agree

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2: Battle Tendency: 6/10: while the second part does improve on the first, where there is now a plot and the fight scenes are better made, it still really didn't catch my attention, will continue reading jojos tho

Bakemonogatari 8/10



Oh Bakemonogatari, one of the anime to which I have ambivalent (mostly positive) feelings towards. The concept of possessions affecting normal people is something that has been dealt quite a few times in animanga, namely Mononoke and Mouryou no Hako before it, and Aobuta in most recent times, with Bakemonogatari being the most famous one and... the one that goes the fanservice way... not the Fairy Tail kind of fanservice, no, the one that actually made me feel awkward and disturbed. Either way, that aside, the fact that there is a lot of content for it and the implication of a huge mistery has gotten me interested. Yes it's hard to watch at times but man, I like when even the most insignificant dialogue has its meaning, it reminds me of Haruhi in that aspect.

Ah and the openings, ending and soundtrack is full of bangers. I also love the editing style here and the artistic direction it took. It's like what Utena tried while making the most out of the least and it worked well this time too.

Monogatari series, like most of SHAFT anime underwent through a lot of production issues, what you probably watched (as well as I) is a "fixed" version of something that used to look considerably worse. Bakemonogatari has an excellent art, some scenes are animated superbly, but most of the time animation is okay, excellent art but standard animation for the most part.

It wasn't possible to make it look better already, they did a rushed job and retouched it, never said animation was excellent apart from a few scenes, just the art which makes me eyegasmic, which while both art and animation are related, they are not the same. There is a lot of panning and A LOT of these s which clearly, while it looks nice and creative, in the end it's a way to save budget.

A time-travel based comedy with tragic backstories and tone changes. Pretty good, I'm surprised people don't talk enough about this anime. Not perfect tho but really enjoyable and charming SOL-ish story.

Why does this even exist? How do you screw up a movie this badly? It's a time loop anime! It has been done right so many times that I thought these wrote by themselves but clearly, they ruined it in every aspect. The rules of time travel do not make sense at all, they're not implicitly or explicitly explained at any moment, allowing these to work to the plot's convenience and leaving way too many plot holes in the story, heck, they even manage to BREAK THE FUCKING PHYSIC'S LAWS with no way telling that it could happen and with no consequences other than making stuff look weird.

Either way, that's not the only thing wrong here, no, the pacing is goddamn atrociously slow, especially for such a simple plot, really, this could have been done in FORTY minutes perfectly but instead they decided to make it a film, was it because of Kimi no Na wa and Koe no Katachi being released a year prior and SHAFT wanting to ride the "tragic eyecandy romantic film" trend? Because I cannot think on any other logical way to explain this film's existence. The pacing was so bad that the first thirty minutes are recommended to be watched at 2x speed , I unironically say this.

Oh, also, the characters OH MY FUCKING GOD THEY'RE JUST ANNOYING. The main boy and the girl whose names are unusual but forgettable are just too clichรฉd, there is no depth to any of both. The dude is like, has no personality other than "he's the protagonist" and the girl is like "I just wanna run from home because reasons". Add to that to the protagonist's friend who is in love with the girl too but he's just stupid and his villainy is just forced and shallow. Just... no, avoid this crap.

Ah but animation is very good at least so that's why it's a 3 and not a 1.

Houseki No Kuni: 9/10

The manga just finished serialization. Honestly this manga is a masterpiece, the only reason why I don't give it a 10/10 it's because it didn't have that much impact on me, but I can see that the things that this manga do are fucking amazing. This has to be one of the most original, best written mangas out there, and I hope that in the future more mangas takes inspiration from this

Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World - Byouki no Kuni - For You 8/10



Yay another SHAFT anime I finished. I am "analyzing" the style this studio has, it's fascinating.

A Kino no Tabi short film (or rather episode) made a few years after the 2003 series which serves as a "sequel" and this time animated by SHAFT... Which looks quite detailed but, other than the shading in some parts, it didn't feel much like a SHAFT anime. As for the episode itself, it was a bittersweet one as usual for Kino stories, this time visiting the country of the sick, where a good part of the population have an unknown illness and they're doing the best they can to find the cure, other than that the country is pretty futuristic and almost utopian yet... Has anyone played The Sims 4? That's how it feels to be there.

also, along many other things, I watched that one anime which style is the one of club penguin but it's actually about PTSD and the vietnam war and it's actually surprisingly good, 8/10

Dotto Koni Chan 8/10


At this point I might be obsessed with SHAFT.

It's also one of the first anime that this studio released, and one of the most bizarre ones. Being an original anime, and also (at least during the first half) having the direction of Shinichi Watanabe who also directed Excel Saga, I could see an already familiar, over the top absurdist humor, that fueled by the dub, particularly, I watched both anime dubbed and this one is also quite well done. It's also curious how the ONLY language this can be watched other than in Japanese is LATAM Spanish and that there are no subs in any language so far due to the difficulty on translating/explaining jokes, a similar case to Masuda Kousuke Gekijou Gag Manga Biyori which has a similar issue, but at least this one has subs. What did they do in the Koni-Chan dub? A shitpost to the proportions of Ghost Stories dub, which ended up great.

Vlad Love 7/10



Describing Vlad Love is quite difficult, other than saying it's a mindless comedy and that it has one of the weirdest humor-types I've seen. It's another comedy made by Mamoru Oshii that... while not bad, quite some jokes didn't land. It's one of these anime that while made with ion and have a strong identity, it feels like lacking something. I enjoyed it somewhat nonetheless.

Also the 1st opening is incredible.

So the beginning of Monogatari was........ disappointing. It's decent but the pacing is slow as hell even for a 1 hour film. Yeah nothing much happened, and the parts where something happened was so anticlimatic. I hope the next two Kizumonogatari parts are better.

Well, better than the 1st part in the fact stuff did happen, but still has an awkward pacing. The fights were like... really short, and the other periods where nothing much happened were too long. So yeah simultaneously it was too fast and too slow, which is surprising taking into it was also a movie of 1 hour.

Kemono Friends: 7/10

This is quite literally a anime for small children to teach them about animals, this anime also comes from a gacha game. Watched it because a friend of mine mentioned it. It's actually enjoyable as the comedy does land and the OST goes weirly hard. The show is full CGI however it actually looks quite good. Not a deep story but I mean, it's literally a educative anime for children what did you expect

Kizumonogatari III - Reiketsu-hen 8/10



The final movie of the Kizumonogatari trilogy is by far the best and the one that gives a well-done conclusion to the story the first two movies did. However, one could notice that the three movies weren't a good adaptation compared to the rest of the novels that were adapted, and I think Kizumonogatari would have worked better as a separate season of Monogatari than a series of films.

An improvement to the monogatari series in almost every aspect: The artstyle got a noticeable upgrade, there is a better plot progression, we notice some character development and finally the overall story starts to make sense. Sure, the two arcs by themselves were quite weak compared to Bakemonogatari but as a whole I liked Nisemonogatari more. Fanservice was also wilder and sometimes more awkward than in Bakemonogatari too.

9/10 dentists recommend this anime.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

Not as good as the first movie, but it's still pretty good, covers a lot of interesting sci-fi topics and that's honestly the reason why you would watch ghost in the shell in the first place so it achieves it's goal

Nekomonogatari Kuro, the last (in novel order) in the 1st season could have been the best arc of the Monogatari Series but it felt. It still does most of the story right though and is well done overall.

Hunter x Hunter: 8/10:

IMO probably the best battle shounen, it's pretty original for the genre, the artstyle has a lot of charm (specially the fan colored version), and while the plot is totally and utterly nonsensical, it is a fun read, however, I do think that it starst falling off after greed island

Monogatari Series: Second Season 9/10



The "second" season of Monogatari is where I can see it gets great. The story at this point starts making sense and the character development can be now noticed in basically everyone, as well as the story letting us know the characters better and in nuances we never saw in the first entries. The story also experiments with new concepts while not making the plot all feel over the place. Sure, the pacing still suffers from being dragged on, but the story overall takes turns where it gets interesting. Finally we see some character arcs closing, some of them ending up in an excellent way. I am adding Hanamonogatari in this rating although I gave that special an 8/10 but since I am watching it in the novel order and Hana is in the middle of S2, I decided to watch it.

grand blue: 3/10 (dropped at volume 8) (third attempt at reading this btw)

I just cant stand this type of comedy, it's borderline sexual harassment but it's supposed to be cool and epic and based since it's done by the protagonist like, i'm sorry but I don't find sneaking into the bathroom while a girl is showering to steal a picture of her naked that she explicitly said she didn't want to show from her pants funny, also the diving plotline really only exists to make every character naked/half-naked

Tsukimonogatari 7/10



I cannot avoid thinking on Tsukimonogatari as the "boring prologue for the next season". Sure it gets you a couple plot points for the next season but other than that it was possibly the most mid arc of Monogatari since it feels more of an excuse to make a story that involved Yotsugi (the cyan haired doll girl in the poster) which barely told anything about her.

Ah yeah and they turned ecchi to the 200%, I guess to keep the audience engaged (didn't work for me). On the good part though they made changes to the inserts and the animation got a budget boost.

Umineko parts 1-8: ~7/10 (some parts I rated lower)

Umineko is a very classic detective novel where a big group of people are in a mansion and people start dying so they got to solve the mistery.

It just didn't really hit with me, this is something that you have to read with a paper and pen in hand and try to solve the mistery at the same time the protagonist do, because other than that, this doesn't really have that much to offer, I didn't really develop a emotional connection to the characters, the art is good in paper but they don't really have scenes where they can let that art shine, the scenes where they're trying to solve the mistery are shown like shounen fighting scenes which is something I don't really enioy either, same with some fanservice the manga provides

it's just not really for me, I only would really recommend this to people who are really into murder mistery novels
