It does seem kind of weird not having a map selector known for mapping/modding very difficult maps (ittedly I don't know zirox or deif's recent history when it comes to this), hopefully the finals won't be underwhelming or disproportionate because of it. Have fun people

When the cut off rank is 5000, not everyone participating is sub 100 in the world lol. Of course they won't have a map selector who can pick super duper hard maps, even for finals, the map selectors are just fine and the maps should be scaled appropriately-Kurisu- wrote: 3o6r3

For the people aiming to become mappool selectors this year, I'm afraid it's a bit late for that since the mappool is more or less prepared for all rounds already. If you have interest in helping out for the next CWC don't hesitate ing personally the tournament management (aka Loctav, p3n, shARPII or me). The best time to ask around would be in February/March next year, more or less when the next TWC is running so we have enough time to organise the next tournament.

I agree! Where is the New Zealand representation, I feel left out because people barely know my country and only let Deadbeat be apart of staff because he hates to identify as a citizen of a team that's never made it out groups for any mode xD
Luckily map selectors aren't a political parliament. There isn't even the necessity to represent different ethnicities. Assuming that the selection is based on racial slur is ludicrous in itself, at OWC nobody complained about having a Chinese and Japanese selector and the lack of an American either, not to speak of mania and taiko.
The only decisive factor when picking map selectors is finding people that are widely unbiased, reliable, proficient and don't themselves with playing teams. Also they need to be able to deal with our design policies when constructing them. Past experiences with CLSW showed us, that many of these factors are not met. Neither for whoever else applied. Also there was never the intention to get additional help. The catch selectors never had a free spot, because none of the selectors left and there was no desire to replace any of them. Neither was there the desire to create a third spot for no reason (here again, this isn't a parliament, it's a group of people that pick maps, that's it).
Just because some people seem to take it for granted that they get a spot in something where no spot is free (how special must you feel to assume that anyways?), it doesn't give anybody the right to play the racism card. This is just cringe.
And making it look like I hate specific ethnicities again on Reddit doesn't make it less ludicrous (where are people even getting the idea from that anything that goes against their will is automatically the other party being racist? How juvenile...)

I mean... saying that different ethnicities have different skills in mapping / playing is stereotypical in itself.
I'd sign up, but I'd weigh Australia down if I did. Sure, I can HD and DT, but I can't HR, nor keep up with 5 star maps overly well: I keep failing at the end of heaps of 5 star maps. Even though I could be an emergency pick, I'd only be there to make sure there was a spare player that Australia could use in those situations. Also looking at the mappools for the other WCs this year, we could be in for a difficult year,

Just I would like to leave my own opinion about the mappool, I hope this could be helpful for further events
Basically, the score system overall has been changed a lot, it means in this scoring system the accuracy have been more important than pure combo, so I think the maps which are pretty hard to get droplets so it'll make more accuracy drop but easy to FC compared with the other maps will have potential to be added (e.g : https://osu-ppy-sh.tvgratuite.org/p/beatmap?b=87764&m=2 Megpoid GUMI & Megurine Luka - Speed [Speed] (inb4 this map has been picked in CWC 2014 so nothing to worry about it))
Hidden mappool shouldn't be harder than NM mappool, but there are some opinions from players that they think playing maps in Hidden mappool with No mod is still harder than playing No mod maps, yes, they were overbalanced. I also agree that hidden mappool was overbalanced, so I wanna see some lenient difficulty of hidden mappool
Also I agree that low AR(8↓) Hidden map should be existed for strategic mappick, but it shouldn't be a mainstream because low AR hidden is completely an anti-meta. As everyone saw CWC 2016 Finals' Hidden mappool has total 3 of AR8 Hidden pick, it wasn't really a nice idea imo. Hidden mod's difficulty isn't only depended on AR, I think the map's characteristic and pattern usages are more important. Even it's pretty high AR compared with low stuffs there are still many of complicated hidden picks with difficult patterns, e.g : https://osu-ppy-sh.tvgratuite.org/p/beatmap?b=686374&m=2 Camellia - dreamless wanderer [Crystal's Overdose] . So I think just using 1 slot for low AR hidden for every rounds shall be the best way to make ideal structure of mappool
For HardRock mappool, I highly recommend to add 1 map with kinda 'memorization' map which needs more memorization to keep combo, this will make unexpected result of the rounds, and also will force players practice it to handle the worst condition. Also they could use their ban cards on it so it'll make the ban phase more interesting
Others are pretty clean, it's sad that I couldn't the mappool selector for this year but personally I'm really happy to see the better quality of mappool, especially we could see the converts on every rounds again! Sorry for my bad english but I've tried my best to write this to see better things of this (probably) the best tourney. Thank you
