i thought of a rank limit aswell, but i feel like the tournament would freeze at somepoint, and new Replays wouldn't come fast enough.

If it's funny to play (and there are prizes), there are gonna be so many replays, so, don't worry about that. The only thing that you are gonna earn without a rank limit is a top ranked player coming here to farm a bit of osu!er.

no it's not.
if the difficulty ramps up to high, it would be almost impossible to send your replays in

This reminds me of "honor system" tournaments or things similar to having a Big Year in birding

I didn't really understand that thing, I just take the map that was above mine, raise the star rating, and beat it.
