That would be great and would allow to cover one more game that would be osu!mania style

hmm... Nice idea but I don't think this is necessary. 8k isn't used that much now since there's no map afaik that translates to 8k by default. So doing 8k just drops your score. Thus 9k wouldn't be necessary. Although I like the idea and might want to try it a bit if implemented.
I wanted to request 13k for DJMAX Portable 3, but whatever... I am all for ing more games even though popn'music is relatively unknown compared to many others.

Imo 9Key is correct, but for translation ? I don't know. At least giving the possibility to map 9 Keys should be a good compromise.

My reason: adds more gameplay/skill to the mode. Fingers are different. Middle and ring share the same t, fingers have different lengths; pinky is the weakest finger. At 8k pinky is not required. 10k makes them required.

I'm posting here because Lybydose told me too! ... and I like Pop'n Music :)


I'd love to see a 9k mode, but really I don't think it'd work too well, since it'd just be another key mode on the list rather than actually simulating PoMu. PoMu's map structure is slightly different, as well as it's ing/hp system. Not to mention it's character aspect. (I'd hug Woc for mania character , Taiko has it! :o )

I was considering making PoMu style maps in 8k, I might still do it if I can figure out what I want to map.

Nope, you can even try yourself, you'll see that it's not the way it works.
Even though I'm not much a pop'n player, I would like to see this implemented. (I played it a little so why not ! There's plenty of space available for the mania UI, and that's only one more key !)
3 of my fingers get lonely. :(

9 keys would be nice if you have Pop N' Music controller that can connect it to computer but there is a problem for those people who using regular keyboards because most of the keyboards now can't press the keys simultaneously at the same time (ghosting problems)
I'll greatly any extra key modes, the more the merrier!

Edit: Being a symmetrical player, I'd rather 10k over 9k though. Really hope this happens one day!

There was a point in the river of time that a few maps does translate into 8K, but since the 8K translation is really poor (can not make sensible spinning notes), these maps returned to 7K.

And maps on 8K is on the way, maybe you'll see a burst in the coming month!

I'd play it, I have a few unused keyboards and a USB hub laying around. :)

Seems so far this request has been receiving mostly positive . And not only from people who's played pop'n'music, I'm pretty sure most of the people who hasn't mentioned it hasn't played it, including myself.

On a side note, having the largest variety of key modes would be a great way to seperate osu!mania from other similar rhythm games. As things stands now, it's mostly a mashup between DJMax/O2Jam/ez2on imo.

I honestly can't see 9k ever becoming even remotely popular.

That said, I've got nothing against it. I wouldn't play it because I don't like playing 8k on anything but an IIDX controller (and I've got no way to use mine with my computer right now), my L key hates me, so I'd need to set up a REALLY weird key arrangement, and I'd probably be awful anyway. but I don't see any reason to oppose the request.

Since anything above 10k would require your hands to move around, I really think that should be the maximum for osu!mania.

Sure, why not?. I'm only worried that we wont have enough maps for 9 key mode, It would be even less than 8k I mean we barely have 1 new map each week for 7k/4k ranked and ranking 9k would be even harder.

That's because most of the players came from ; 7K : o2jam/iidx/djmax & 4K : stepmania/ddr/itg and a few players of 5/6/8k mode would come to play.

I'd say get those people from dream-pro come to osu and be a mania mapper for 8K.
i fear the day when there will be too many keys to specialise in ;w; but no i this, from what i know currently anyway there is a very slow process towards making people be able to main any keymode and get to the same pp ranking as other keymodes, its more so just waiting for more charts to be ready for ranking which is slowly occuring
I can't help but notice that the key bindings menu (the main one, not the osu!mania layout) has key bindings for the 1st - 9th key. Either it's a considered feature that was abandoned since most people will have trouble pressing more than 8 keys at once and the shear difficulty, or it's a pending feature that I bet people in the ranks up high are awaiting.

I fully the implementation of more key modes.

I started rhythm gaming some months ago with osu!mania. I've played piano for over a decade, so playing 4k, 5k, 6k, and 7k wasn't an issue for me.
I was discouraged from playing 8k because of the lack of maps and the general lack of popularity. However, I'm now getting my 8k closer and closer to the level of my other keys. I think we should definitely allow for at least 9k and 10k , as it brings me more of a feel that I'm actually playing the piano, which is amazing, especially with great hit sounding. Maybe it's also because I read chords well because piano, etc.

I think the osu!mania community should evolve to be more 'key-friendly' by letting each key be given the same level of legitimacy, maybe even 1k...

Osu!mania should be about playing any number of keys, not just 'another way to play IIDX or BMS or o2jam or stepmania, etc'
Not that we would be discouraging that, we are encouraging everybody to gain proficiency in all key levels because it creates a more even and balanced game for everyone to enjoy.

Mappers like Blocko and LordRaika are doing a great job in this regard, by giving a full set of difficulties for every key (currently rankable), and I would love to continue in this direction.

Depends on your keybindings.
For me 8K has 2 thumb keys (C and Space). (C is either for the leftmost lane or the 4th lane, haven't decided yet since I have barely played 8K)
10K would be 8K+2 pinkies.
9K would be either 8K+1 pinky, or 7K+2 pinkies (would need to test which one feels more natural).

You move your fingers from one key to another (or leave some fingers in a position where they can hit any of 2 keys with similar movements, or both keys with the same finger).

To me, it seems fine to have a nine key since people usually do their keyboards with nine keys (A,S,D,F,Space,J,K,L,;) but I'm not sure how people would play with ten keys...you would have to move one of your hands up and it would just be wierd.

people learn 16k just fine in lr2 10k wont be a problem after learning finger independence when there are enough songs to practise with
