It has been a long road, and a hell of a journey. From the team's beginning as a measure to help address the slowing ranking cycle many years ago, the MAT have gone through a number of changes to become what they are today.

Or rather, what they were.

Effective immediately, all previous MAT have been promoted to of the Beatmap Appreciation Team with full privileges and permissions, and the Mapping Assistance Team has been permanently dissolved, gone forever.

of the MAT who had a particular role (such as mania-only MAT or taiko-only MAT) will adopt that role amongst the BAT, and their forum titles will be updated in the coming days to reflect this.

No changes have been made to the ranking cycle. A map still needs a bubble before it can be ranked, and approval maps need at least two.

this was a response to role dilution over the past few months which very rapidly thinned the barrier between what MAT were expected to do and what the BAT actually did. a MAT was effectively a BAT that couldn't rank, but was trusted with assessing maps as rankable, which was a complete contradiction from the very start and only a stopgap measure introduced to help the staff team better identify maps that were slipping between the cracks in the ranking cycle.

with this change, the former MAT now have full access to all the tools they need to perform their jobs properly as they were doing before, and we get a bunch of fresh blood and new opinions in the team to boot.

As a previous leader to this team and one of it main driving forces in its infancy I'm proud to see this change. I think down the line this was bound to happen and I only see at as more growth for the team when this team was created it was simply a group nothing more nothing less, but for the last few months I think we can all agree they have been the driving force of this game in of beatmap moderation. That being said they are no more or less to us, we are equal so the team has ran it's course and the end result is a decent team dedicated to help and make osu! as fun and cool as possible! I'm glad I was able to be a part of it, and to all the team that have now moved on to the BAT I say welcome not that you haven't been welcome from the start! To any of the MAT that are now BAT Don't stress the new role you have too much because the only thing that has changed is now you can approve of things! I like this. The gap between MAT/BAT was thinning over time, so this is the best thing to do for the team imo. I just hope they won't go nuts on the community moderation side and simply stick to the modding bit.
