In one of the biggest releases in recent times, this update brings over two weeks of going over (almost) every fine detail of the default osu! skin/UI and revamping to make it more consistent, modern and to add HD . I plan on going over this in more detail in the coming days on my dev blog but until then sit back and enjoy!

A few things to note:

1. There may be random bugs. Report these in the tech forum, not this thread. please
2. Taiko, CtB and osu!mania redesigns are currently underway. Expect them to be updated over the coming weeks.
3. There are still a small number of elements which haven't been updated – for example, the spins-per-minute counter. These will come over the next few days.
4. For those using custom skins, you can force fallbacks to the new default by ticking the checkbox in the skin options screen. Default behaviour will be to use the old elements so they align properly when skins don't replace all skinnable elements.
5. The ranking screen is somewhat of a work in progress. You currently need to scroll to see your online rank performance. This may change.
6. I will make the new skin available for use as a template in the near future. Keep a watch on the skinning forum.

I have a lot more to say about the changes, but am a bit worn out and will do so in the near future. There are a lot of little gameplay changes which make for a better overall experience which have not been pointed out in this post. See how many you can spot, and let me know if any have improved the game for you.

Awesome new skin! Love it

The new default cursor seems very "fluffy" on the edges compared to the older one which was "sharper".
Is there a way to gain access to the older sharper cursor in case we prefer that?

Also, just tested HD on some maps that previously were "HD challenging due to stacking" and it seems like some types of stacking became easier to read while other types of stacking became harder. The different style of object fading led to some time-spacings of notes to blend in more obvious ways and others to blends into each other and be harder to distinguish :v

Overall tho this seems better and a good direction. The new followpoints are great, I was playing with disabled followpoints on my skin for a while but with those new ones I'm going to enable them.

After some more experimenting, it seems that invisible skins still provide a better HD experience over the new default osu skin, however this new skin is definitely a lot more readable and feels nice to play with for most average map patterns. The only thing that stood out is that objects blend very strongly in certain time spacings due to how bright the circles are and this makes it impossible to spot the combo number until very late. This might be improved if combo numbers had a darker shade around them.

Looks very sharp and sleek - kinda reminds me of the osu!stream UI.
I keep clicking the mode button every time I want to use mods >_<. Ah well, better get used to it or use F1.

Not liking the spinner all that much. It doesn't give an accurate representation as to how much more I have to spin. I also preferred the cartoon-y hitmarkers of the last skin. It was a lot easier to see whether I got a 300 or 200.

It's generally a step in the right direction, though. I'm looking forward to see the finalized product.

Looks a lot more modern, just started playing a few months ago but I really felt like all the interface was old and deprecated, this one is sleek, I love the new spinner/health bar, the config menu is awesome. I still hate the cursor but that is easily fixed

Overall everything feels new and it's very refreshing.

But i dont really like the new ranking letters. Cant see well the difference between a S and SS, which makes scores scrolling silly.

My opinion though, i'll probably adapt my skin to put back old letters system.

not sure when this will happen, but what you can do, is remove parts from your skin that you want replaced by the default skin. any skin elements that are missing from a skin are replaced with the default skin

Agree with spinner. It looks too messy to me and sometimes I can't find cursor after spinning, but otherwise skin is awesome! Really like new followpoints. Also is somebody having problems with cursor? Mines totally freezes while map loading.

I don't like how notes disappear now, kinda makes the game slack. Also, misses going a little down is very disturbing, and something disturbs me on the new gameplay, I can't read quite as I was able to before. The rest looks really good!

New osu! default skin is much better then the old. osu!stream PC Version Skin mabye?

It looks good but I need to adapt I guess. I have been playing Osu for 5 years now and it is going to be hard to adapt. I just found out about the mini games but I'm not sure why you guys took it off for the multi player .The main thing I really don't enjoy is when you play the colors don't change :< it is harder to tell which one is which if you guys can at least change the colors for the circles that will be great and thank you.

This will happen at "in-between" resolutions like 1680x1050, where high res sprites are being used but scaled too much. I'll look into fixing this by using lower resolution ones in these cases where possible.

What graphics card are you running on? How long does the lag last for? I could replicate this on my VM, but assumed it was just my VM being a VM as no one else complained.

Looks really great.

The few things I don't like:

1. the ranking letters, hard to determine between SH and XH
2. the spinner, you can't really tell what is going on imo
3. the new slidertick behavior, SV changes are impossible to read now
4. edit: the misses falling down looks really irritating

4 years playing this game and looking at it now is like seeing a child grow!
Only thing i'll have to get used is the back button after i finish the beatmaps, but that's not a problem at all.

So whats up with the forced red filter on play-warningarrow.png? Makes the point of having a custom one quite moot...

I wish that the hit images had a bit more color in them, if there's a stream it's hard to notice 100 in the middle of many 300's. ;w; But otherwise, this skin looks awesome.
