Uh, just came around watching The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
Certainly a pleasure to watch!
Has anybody else any movies like that? I have basically watched everything by Miyazaki and also 5cm per Second.
Look through the rest of Mamoru Hasoda's work if you liked The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Summer Wars and The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki are the first two immediate suggestions that come to mind.

If you liked 5 Centimeters Per Second, then you'd probably do yourself a favor in checking out the rest of Makoto Shinkai's filmography. However, I honestly believe he makes the same film over and over again (filling something to the brim with artificial nostalgia), so the only other thing of his I'd truly suggest is the short film She And Her Cat.

Any got some suggestion on good anime with relaxing story ?
kinda like to love ru and stuff
harem genre would be nice xD
kinda bored watching blood these days >.>
>good stuff
>relaxing story
>...To Love Ru?
uh sure whatever works for you I guess bro (pretty sure that's FILLED TO THE BRIM with sexual tension, which is still tension)

As far as good, relaxing anime is concerned, there is a type of anime floating around referred to as iyashikei, where essentially a sort of Zen-like state is what is intended. Standout titles I'd recommend from this include:

  1. Aria The Animation/Natural/Origination
  2. Mushishi
  3. Sketchbook: Full Color's

Hataraki Man and Flag. For two different reasons, but yes, they're absolutely fantastic.

Oh, I add you, maybe you can recommend me too!
It depends what specifically you like...

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is my favourite right now. Unless you're in love with subs, I highly recommend the English dub.
Maybe Claymore or Witch Hunter Robin? I wasn't in love with either but they're both action oriented.
Just from a quick browse, it doesn't look like you watch mecha, which has been the bulk of what I've been watching lately.

Just for your infomation. Don't watch Princess Lover's OVA. Why ? Because it's a H...(What is H ? Ask the others or me)
Girls with katanas and always love some lolis in the right animes.

Looking for the best animes that you people have seen in each category. I'm not necessarily picky. But PLEASE NO YAOI!!!

Your favorite anime for each category:
-Action
-Romance
-Sad
-Ecchi
-Horror
-Comedy
-Mystery
-Other Genres

My favorites have to be the Monogatari series.

Good night guys. <3
-Action: Fate/Zero probably. Hard to think of these right on the spot.

-Romance: Nodame Cantabile. By and far the best executed romance in anime imo.

-Sad: Not an anime series, but I recommend Byousoku 5 Centimeter if you want something that will bring a tear to your eye.

-Ecchi: I guess Mayo Chiki, although I'm not a fan of the "genre". Mayo Chiki just managed to make me smile.

-Horror: Shiki. Hard to do good horror in anime, but Shiki is decent

-Comedy: Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu will have you laughing the whole time you watch. Definitely my favorite.

-Mystery: Monster. The anime is fine, but the manga is superior.

I've had Fate/Zero on my list but I'm still working up to it
Byousoku 5 Centimeter already came out!? I watching the trailer like it was yesterday...
Never heard of Nodame Cantabile but since you recommended it, it's worth a watch!
I love comedy! That's what I enjoy about ecchi animes, forgot to include that.
I think I've seen a bit of Shiki, but I could be wrong. ö
YES! Baka to Test was hilarious! But I was a bit upset about the 2nd season. ):
Haven't heard of Monster, but again it's worth a try!
Thank you so much!

Green is for watched
How is LoGH? I've heard a lot about it.
Legend of The Galactic Heroes is a Space Scifi Military Drama thing...
Masterfully choreographed. To give you a better image, Imagine Code Geass with a shit ton of amazing commanders like Lelouch on both sides, where political intrigues, plots and schemes are far from uncommon. Imagine unbelievable battles in space, Its really really good.

Expert Review:
SPOILER
This series is overrated on this site. That is to say, with 110 episodes, your vote only counts after you've seen 22 episodes, almost a full season, and those who don't like this show probably won't wait for 22 episodes to decide.
Which is a shame, as it's only after about 20 episodes that this series progresses from something that is slow, somewhat overly bombastic, and hinting at more to come to show itself to be one of the most intelligent pieces of anime that's been made to date.

When I say 'intelligent', I don't mean it to be cunning, surprising the viewer with unsuspected plot lines or new angles to view something. Nor does it delve deeply into some obscure theory of science or arts, bombarding the viewer with ideas he couldn't have come up with himself. In fact, there's absolutely nothing in this series that is wholly unexpected or very deep. What it has, though, is a sense of scale that's unsured in any anime - or, for that matter, any television show - I've seen.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes centers around - you guessed it - a bunch of people who, according to populace at large that inhabits the fictional future this series plays in, are of heroic proportions. That is to say, heroic in a very classical sense, being possibly a negative thing as well as a positive.
The series is set in a future wherein the universe known to man is divided into two camps, the aristocratic and absolutist Galactic Empire, and the democratic Free Planets' Alliance, who have been embroiled in a war for some time, seemingly
being evenly matched. This balance is shattered when a military genius with a far-reaching ambition rises on the Imperial side, prompting the Alliance to, somewhat grudgingly, give ever greater backing to the most capable officer on their own side. Both men surround themselves with able staff, who become legends in their own right.
It sounds like your average hero of freedom-versus-tyrant story, but it turns out to be anything but. First of all, the heroes do have a sense of their own importance, but also the sense to question whether they are all that special, or whether the circumstances of their times have just brought them to a spotlight which people equal to them could never have aimed at. More importantly, the main question on which the whole series hinges remains an open one. This question is the age-old one of which is better, autocracy or democracy, the problem being that a good autocracy is usually better than a good democracy, but a bad autocracy being worse than a bad democracy. Within the happenings of the show, it becomes apparent that, militarily speaking, at least, a good autocracy has an edge over democracy in of speed and decisiveness, and this shows in how the series progresses.
A large part of the series is devoted to showing the war and its subsequent smaller-scale rumblings. The war is fully shown from the side of the commanding officers - one of only a very few shows to do so - and does show an appropriate sense of scale. With battles involving thousands of battleships and millions of men, simple depictions of large-scale tactics take the place of views of the battlefield itself, and a considerable part of the show is, laudable, devoted to discussions on logistics and military intelligence.
A larger part still, though, is devoted to discussions on politics, all within the greater autocracy versus democracy question. Again, these thoughts never go very deep, but what strikes one is that so very many possible variables are brought up. Almost any motive of rulers or the general populace that might affect a political decision is included at some point in the show, making me at least think to myself: 'They even thought of thát one.' The show does tend, here and there, to lean toward the old 'good soldier, bad politician' cliché, but, overall, it really lacks a clear villain, instead showing each possible side (apart, perhaps, from religious fanatics) from every possible angle. Moreover, all this is shown within a future universe that is highly consistent over the full 110 episodes, even if differences between the warring sides tend to be somewhat exaggerated: in many cases whole societies seem to act a bit too much according to a somewhat radical ideology, only to make their following actions be true to form.

This being true to form applies also to most of the actions that, at first glance, seem to be overly dramatical, in the first place many of the actions of the dozen or so main protagonists. However, when thinking about the how and why of their actions, it usually becomes clear that they cannot have but acted as they did, according to cultural mores and individual character. A case in point would be the reliance of many Imperial officers on the character of some military commander to predict his battlefield tactics. This would seem lunacy, until it is ed that the Imperial commanders are a tight-knit group, mostly of noble birth, and known to each other: each commander would know the peculiarities of all others, which become all the more predictable as the importance of gaining personal glory and honour in battle are taken into the equation.
This reliance on known characteristics of all personalities is also possible because the characters don't evolve all that much. Now, I've never understood why 'character progression' in general seems to mean having characters make a full volte-face, and I am, in fact, happy with a series that shows all characters as being fully grown, and fixed in their ways. Each has a specific role to play, and a mind-set that might be predictable, but is, again, true to form. This doesn't make the character shallow. Far from it: their characteristics mean that each takes a single position to a fitting extreme, making for interesting differences between the characters, and accompanying differences in outlook.
That said, it is indeed true that the characters may be somewhat flat, and quite a few seem to be included only to show a different point of view toward a specific situation or theory, but it is exactly this relative flatness that makes it possible for them to discuss so many situations.

As for the art, it is old and outdated, but that can't be held against the show. It is a shame that, mainly in the first season, the series is at times simply bad: persons walk in an awkward way, scenes are recycled, and even relative positions of facial structures change from frame to frame. There's no excuse for that. Technically, though, the art definitely gets better during the course of the show.
In fact, the show being old might be a boon. The creators have opted to make the drawing style relatively realistic, which fits the series splendidly. One has only to look at the manga to see how different it could have been: the style of the manga doesn't fit the show at all.
Real points have to go to the design. Again, nothing is really innovative, from the spaceships to the almost 19th century looking setting to the uniforms of the soldiers. It is, however, solid, and consistent, and really brings the world to life.

The music is outstanding. It mainly consists of generally well-known classical compositions, which, granted, have been often used before, but never have they been used to such splendid effect: especially the use of pieces during battle sequences, fitting the individual scenes to the music, is a joy to watch.

As a whole, Legend of the Galactic Heroes never tries to be overly deep, and, though it tends to be somewhat bombastic, never loses itself to any glorification. It is slow and quite meticulous, focusing on a lot of details, and consists for the largest part of dialogue, not action. The story progresses slowly, and only after about a season's worth of episodes the real story starts to evolve.
And this show never, ever tries to evoke an emotional response. The whole series is based on having the viewer have an intellectual understanding of what happens, not an emotional one. There are, thus, no cheap tricks to elicit emotional response, nothing overly dramatic (barring a few strokes of bombast), and no characteristics that make a main protagonist or villain.
I can only applaud this, considering it a feat to produce such a good series without relying on drama. Legend of the Galactic Heroes is, in this sense, the absolute antithesis of my other personal favourite, Le Portrait de Petit Cossette, appealing to the rational side of the viewer, even when the protagonists act with all their vaunted 'foppery and whim

WATCH THESE ANIME RIGHT NOW
Now, see, I don't think Bakuman, Samurai Champloo, FMA: Brotherhood, or even Anohana or S;G are must-watches. They appeal to very specific aesthetics that, yes, a lot of anime fans attach to, but that does not mean that they are be-all-end-all titles. It's worth noting what kind of person should watch what when making a recommendation instead of just shouting "THESE ARE MY FAVOURITES WATCH THESE RIGHT NOW LOSER".

So, basically...Bakuman should be recommended to those who like shonen shows that may not have a focus on action and can handle slower pacing. Samurai Champloo is for folks who don't necessarily want more than awesome fight scenes combined with campy, anachronistic technical-story juxtaposition (basically: if hip-hop samurais sound interesting to you do not this one up). FMA: Brotherhood is for fans of the original FMA manga/manga purists in general. Anohana is for those who like manipulative tragedy that for the first 10 episodes is actually very competently executed outside of the Mary Sue tragedybait. Steins;Gate is for those who want to combine SCIENCE! with otakubait and visual novel tragedy.

tl;dr: This thread is meant for more specialized recommendations, based off of what the has seen/what they are looking for, not just blanket recommendations. There are dozens of lists of those out there. :P

Finally, ending this post with a recommendation request. Looking into potential shonen-ai/shoujo-ai titles that do not invoke the ideas of standard gender roles in a relationship. Also, non-pornographic.
I understand what you are trying to say but that is not the intention of the post I made. Just because someone liked a specific type of anime doesn't mean they wont enjoy other types, especially if those are of very high quality.

For Example: I generally hate mecha and anything that has to do with it, yet I enjoyed every bit of Eva and Cowboy Bebop

Your point may be true is most situations, but not this one, these anime will appeal to pretty much any one, if they don't they they must be people so nit picky about things that no one even likes to hang around them, seeing as they will most likely always make complaints and remarks about something they dont like (OMG why the hell are the peas mixed with the mashed potatoes, i'm not eating this)

Also Suggestions:
Junjou Romantica
Sekaiichi Hatsukoi
Fuyu no Semi
Patalliro!
Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru
Ai no Kusabi

Thats all I could find :/

Disclaimer: Disregarded the do not statement, since I know of so little and generally don't like this kind of stuff
Since I've only seen one of those, I'll be busy with those, thanks a lot.

Now...

...this is not the best point of view. Because everyone has their own interests. I mean, I don't particularly like Evangelion, Bakuman, or Steins;Gate. Plenty of people don't like Madoka or Anohana. It's more of a 'this is popular among the general non-big-3 crowd, watch these to be in the loop' sort of idea instead of 'watch these because they are the best'.

Also, generally, it's more than just genre that goes into recommendations, too. :P Making a good recommendation also deals with potential tone and direction (as well as genre).

Basically, the only reason why I have a problem with that list was your tone in delivery it. Nothing is a must-love.
Entry level shit I mean everyone has their own tastes. I have to disagree with this trend of posting a list of things instead of simply asking for something specific. There are charts for this.

That being said, does anyone have a lesser known generic shounen that is dear to them? I want something mindless to watch. I'd prefer it to be under 26 episodes.

Preference in genre?

Otherwise this recommendation could become quite lengthy.

One of the older examples of that story set-up would have to be:
  1. Love Hina
Hey guys! I hope i won't come across as too picky. I never watched much anime, i'll try to go by example of what i like. I liked the original Dragon Ball and the first seasons of Slayers, they were mostly about self discovery, exploration, meeting interesting people and visiting interesting places. There was always a good climax fight to close a "chapter". There are a lot of series that fit into that description, but most are about ridiculous fights that go on for ever like in Dragon Ball Z or Bleach. I hate pointless fighting with no consequence (like characters taking mortal wounds and just shrugging it off), i get bored fast when watching those. I watched the Samurai Champloo series recently. The animation and choreography looked good, also Nujabes did the tracks. But it was awful, filled with pointless fights because the characters were established as completely overpowered from the first episode and would heal deep cut wounds in minutes. I can't see myself getting invested in that.

Other series i liked a lot were Samurai 7. The characters and the setting were amazing, Katsushiro's arc was pure brilliance, every fight had a purpose and the series ended with such a satisfying climax (i really don't want to spoil much in case somebody hasn't seen it, it's the best anime i have seen, highly recommended). Another one was Heat Guy J (not many people have seen it, from what i can tell). Like Samurai 7, it had an interesting setting and a well done overarching political conflict. Problems were solved with the brain first and violence second. Like Dragon Ball and Slayers it had a lot of exploration and interesting characters.

I'll mention Death Note and Ghost in the Shell, but who didn't like those.

As you can probably tell, i'm not much into cute romance things, high school drama or DBZ clones, but unfortunately this is what i usually come across (i'm feeling very lucky that i just happened to come across Samurai 7 and Heat Guy J). Sorry, this came out lengthy.

I'd almost say you're hopeless just by this.

However, I have solutions for you.

There is "Psycho-" which is a newer show, and has similar action and themes to HeatGuy.

Also Cowboy Bebop and Trigun might interest you, in of themes and action and what not. Seriously, i'd be surprised if you hadn't heard of them or seen them, they're two of the most impressive and mature shows you can watch. The writing is great in those, and the dubs (should you choose to watch those) are really good.

One last one I can reccomend is Darker than Black. It has all the right things that should fit into what you like, as well as good characters, pacing and action scenes.

These anime all have smart writing, good characters and should mostly fit into what you say you like. If you like none of them, i'm not sure I can help you.
I completely forgot about Cowboy Bebop. Never heard about Trigun, will check it out along with Phycho- and Darker than Black. Thanks so much!
anyone recommend me any anime like "BAKEMONOGATARI" ?
It depends on what element of Bakemonogatari you liked.

If you want more like it, watch Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari.

If you want some artsy imagery combined with otaku-aimed material, try out more from Studio Shaft (including Madoka Magica, but that's a given at this stage), including the following: Arakawa Under the Bridge, Hidamari Sketch, Sasai-san@Ganbaranai, and Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei.

If you want an intelligent harem title, well, good luck, because it's pretty much this.

It depends on what element of Bakemonogatari you liked.

If you want more like it, watch Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari.

I would add Tatami Galaxy into the above list. It's not by Shaft, but it has the same (even crazy) animation as other series by Shaft.
The monologue is a bit fast but it's one of the similarities to Bakemonogatari series imo
Presentation-wise, I would agree with The Tatami Galaxy being thrown up there. In of material, eh, its plot is ephemeral at best and a lot more full of symbolism and meaning than Bakemonogatari. Not exactly as easy of a watch.

If you end up liking that one, though, I'd recommend Cat Soup and Mind Game, from the same director. Kaiba is also a recommendation but has a completely different tone.
@Mogsworth: You're right, but as the requester doesn't really specify what he wanted, might as well try recommend anime that have a bit similarities to him (even if there's a big chance that the one he like is the Harem element). :P

EDIT: I'm also searching for anime with the same vibe as Mushishi & Kino no Tabi. Anything that deals with wandering around like in Kino no Tabi but also have some strangeness & serenity as in Mushishi

Kokoro Connect? I guess that has the same sort of thing going on. Kind of a vague description.
Kokoro Connect is the exact opposite of those types of shows.

Aria the Animation, Ikoku Meiro no Croisee, and Mononoke are better, more-fitting suggestions. Mononoke being the most-fitting.

Do yourself a favour and watch these unless you haven't already:
  1. Genshiken
  2. Great Teacher Onizuka
  3. School Rumble
Some other kind of titles that you could watch would be:
  1. Azumanga Daioh
  2. Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou
Not your standard slice of life/comedy anime, but I would also greatly recommend Shirokuma Cafe. If you continue to want something different, Kuragehime might be up your alley.

Not going for moe slice of life recommendations because those are overdone and kinda grating.
Looking slice of life/comedy anime?
maybe you should watch "Little Buster" or "Hyouka"
I'm greatly reccomend them
or maybe Slice of life with musical anime?
I would reccomend you "Tari Tari" or "Love Live!"
Watched Mononoke Hime and it was great!!! Thanks Mogs :D

Now searching for a good shounen anime, any genre but action. I don't mind old stuff as long as it's good
amnesia is the best!
I wouldn't really recommend Amnesia, myself, even as a fan of reverse harems/bishounen stuff in general. It's bland, predictable, and pretty boring. Each guy in the show has barely definable traits and it's one of the dullest uses of alternate dimensions I've ever seen. The only things that really stands out are the visuals, but you can't just have a decent art style (with horrendous fashion) without having good cinematography or (more importantly) a good script.

Better reverse harem titles include Ouran High School Host Club and potentially La Corda d'Oro.

Also, Sallad4ever: I didn't mean Mononoke Hime (although it is my favourite of Miyazaki's work!), but just Mononoke, the spin-off of Ayakashi. It's VERY similar to Mushi-shi. :P

Hi guys, came to request some suggestions. My favorite anime is Ouran High School Host Club, and some of the reasons I like it so much is that it pokes fun at a lot of genre conventions and I love how unique the characters are. Could anyone suggest animes with atypical (and likable) characters that also break away from what is normal for their genres?

Danshi Kokosei no Nichijou, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita, and (to an extent, simply due to a memorable cast and very silly nature) School Rumble.

Lucky Star plays so heavily into the tropes of its genre that I wouldn't count it.

lol, I only know Mononoke Hime so when you write Mononoke in your post I automatically think about the movie one. Still, it's a pleasant misunderstanding cause I fairly enjoy Mononoke Hime

Edit: ofc I'll watch Mononoke. The Anime image in MAL already made me drool
Not sure if this is the right place to ask (not reading the first page for the win), but which one would you suggest the most of these:
Tamayura, Gosick, Tari Tari, Hyouka or Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka?
It's the right place to ask, but it depends, really on what you want, as these shows are all differently-paced and have different sorts of execution.

If you want a pretty standard harem-VN adaptation, go for Akane-Iro. If you want a slower-paced slice of life, either Tamayura or Hyouka. If you want a slightly faster-paced slice of life, go for Tari Tari. If you want a mystery anime, go for Gosick.

Out of all of those, I'd suggest either Gosick or Tari Tari, just out of personal favourites.
Gosick will be the first then. Thanks!
I'm looking for comedy, the other genres is can be anything, preferably slice of life or school life. Please click my signature so you wouldn't suggest anything that on the list. thank you

Mayo Chiki! is the anime for you! Maids + comedy = one hell of an ride.
Just sayin'

-Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?
-Ore no Kanojo (oreshura)

w
As far as the catgirl suggestions are concerned: Ehh, not much fetish stuff is my field of expertise, but I guess Asobi ni Ikuyo! (catgirl aliens + girls with guns; I haven't seen much of it but I've heard mixed things) would fit your expectations. The episodes I saw still did have a lot of comedy, so hey.

Also, I wanted to just remind everyone of something. Textwall impending.

ampzz wrote: 4496y

...we move on to the part of offering suggestions to particular s which is simpler if you do something that includes:
  1. Try to break up certain aspects of your suggestion list by grouping similar anime together or, if they're after multiple genre requests, group them into their respective labels.
Some people prefer being able to organise their plan-to-watch lists by watching one genre type at a time.
  2. Possibly give your own short take on the anime titles which doesn't have to be much, even a few words is better than nothing at all.
  3. Take into consideration of which anime they've listed as already seen or the comparative title they're after.
  4. Offer a few anime titles at a time, even if they are the OVA of the same named anime title as most people might skip OVA, OAD or movies since they didn't know about them.
What I'm trying to get at by quoting the OP here is to not leave a list of "this is stuff I like go watch this now". We're supposed to be fulfilling search criteria from a poster, not just...offering blanket suggestions. There are guides on many websites for titles major anime fans should watch to just be in the know, so doing things like quoting those here does not help anyone (maybe adding lists like those to the OP would help).

Similarly, this is not a thread to just throw down titles you might like without any rhyme or reason. It makes the flow of the thread even more awkward, especially when you don't explain the reasoning for throwing down these titles.

Finally, at least pay attention to certain things when making suggestions. Like, if you have a request arranged like this:

Request wrote: 5z5xq

I watched and liked Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Black Lagoon. Where should I go next?
A good response would be the following:

Suggestion wrote: 5v311k

I would suggest both seasons of Jormungand (Jormungand and Jormungand Perfect Order). They have a heavy focus on action, deal with bouts of moral ambiguity, feel very different from most other action anime, and have a mature look and feel to them. The emphasis on gunplay in its action make it more similar to Bebop and Black Lagoon compared to Champloo, but the fight choreography is still there and rather intense.
A mediocre response would be the following:

Suggestion wrote: 5v311k

Watch Jormungand! It's full of action and Koko is a badass. :D
A bad response would be the following:

Suggestion wrote: 5v311k

Watch Jormungand Koko is my waifu
An off-kilter response would be:

Suggestion wrote: 5v311k

Um...Eureka Seven has action and nice animation, maybe check that out?
Notice that offering a more detailed suggestion would be able to possibly highlight elements of the show that people liked. It's a matter of finding plenty of similarities between titles, whether that'd be tonally, plot-wise, character-wise, animation-quality-wise, and so on. Generally, the more things two shows have in common while still being their own thing, the better the suggestion is. If they ask about a show you don't know about and don't provide detail on what they liked about it, do some research. Reading a plot synopsis/reviews on sites like Anime News Network or MAL generally can aid in making better suggestions.

tl;dr: Use your heads when making suggestions. It makes it much easier on the requester.
I'm trying to find a good anime that's emotional, but in the genre of shounen. Any suggestions?

The only one I can think of is BECK.

It's not as emotional as it make you cry river but for me, I like how they try to advance with their band and the interaction between the band mates. Also some occasion with the band playing their song on the stage is quite emotional for me.

PS: You can also some of the mainstream title (if you haven't watched them) like Gintama, they have some tear inducing moments in some of their arc.
Any suggestions for me to find a comedy anime besides Nichijou? :<
Just finish Starry Star. It was great. I actually cried at the end, it so sad . Any good Reverse Harem?
SPOILER
I already watch Uta no prince-sama and Ouran High School Host Club
Gintama is a fantastic comedy
It' very long though, 252 episodes

Great Teacher Onizuka is also very good

You've already seen Ouran High School Host Club, so not really. I kinda hesitantly recommend Code:Breaker, but I haven't finished it, so I can't fully get behind it. It's definitely a reverse harem, but the romance is definitely not the focus.

Btooom has twelve episodes; it's a 'good' anime.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Btooom!
Summary:
Ryōta Sakamoto is an unemployed 22-year-old who lives with his mother. In the real world, there may be nothing really special about him, but online, he's one of the world's top players of the combat game called Btooom!. One day, he awakes in what appears to be a tropical island, though he has no memory of how or why he has come to be there. While wandering around, Ryōta sees someone and calls out for help. The stranger responds by throwing a bomb at him. Ryōta soon realizes both that his life is in danger and that he has somehow been trapped in a real-life version of his favorite game. In the game Ryota meets Himiko, who is another Btooom! gamer — and supposedly Ryota's in-game wife.

I'll start off by saying I haven't seen loads of anime either, but I can tell you a few things about some of the titles you have here.

Sword Art Online will only come out as good to you if you like MMORPGs and other similar genres. The characters are weak, Kirito seems invincible but the combat scenes are epic enough to make up for it. The ending is great, too.

Steins;Gate is my favourite anime I've watched so far. It's pretty much split into two halves, the first 12ish episodes are a slice of life comedy, building towards the second half. You will be confused by what is going on until you finished the series/watched further episodes, but you will like it. The second part is the most creative use of time travel I've seen, it is VERY dramatic and most likely will make you cry for a bit. I'm still questioning how on earth the main character maintained his sanity after going through all of it. The Characters and story are the strongpoints here, everything pieces together and when it clicks, that is when you recognize how amazingly creative the writers are. It's a fairly slow start, but since you enjoy slice of life you won't mind.

I couldnt' watch more than 2 episodes of madoka, I just can't handle the magical girls genre at all. 0 interest.

Hope this helped a bit.

Yes.

  1. Great Teacher Onizuka. It is a silly comedy and indeed does not have the moe factor that the three titles you listed have (I personally don't mind the lack of moe in the slightest, but eh). Some points get a little after-school-special-ish later on in the series, but it's still damn silly and funny. Easily one of my favourite comedies out there.
  2. School Rumble. Basically, this is love polygon heaven. It is goofy about it every step of the way. Not the least bit serious. It has a special place in my heart and always lightens my mood.
  3. And Yet The Town Moves. One of the more underappreciated Shaft shows out there. Also not a serious show (then again, you asked for comedies), and it is a little off-kilter at points. I still find a lot of the humor in this show genuinely funny and the last episode is both sad and amazingly funny.
Three shows that are definitely worth your time, if your funny bone agrees with silly.
