Sure. I will add pretty soon some ranked Taiko-sets which you can pratice on!
thanks! Also something that bugged me for a while is that you made a typo and said Fink turbo instead of Pink Turbo.
Hey, thank you very much for making this. I am having a lot of trouble transitioning into the advanced section, I can play all the sample songs well enough, but Pink Turbo is extremely hard for me. Would you really consider this song 7 stars? Compared to the first 8 star song we play, Pink Turbo seems a lot harder.
I starting using this back in February. I was terrible back then but I really think the training maps helped a lot. Thanks again for making this!

@Cannifos: Oh, sorry forgot about the post. I will check that after my exams.
@Decon082: Ah, glad to hear that! After my exams I will add new maps which you can practice on. More different mappers and some will be ranked already.
Thanks a whole lot for this thread!
It has been really helpful, though I'm still wondering how to play most of the patterns, as in which keys to press when. Am I supposed to alternate everything?

How for example should I play this: DDK
Am I supposed to alternate the two dons or simply singletap them?

Or things like: DDDDKKDDKK

Mind that I am still playing rather slow maps, but wouldn't it be a good idea to already start learning to alternate those so picking up faster maps will be easier in the future?

I personally think that it depends on the BPM's song. Since you're playing slow maps, I personally think to singletap.

I too have a question about this, so assuming your keys are mapped to dfjk, for DDKDDKDDK or something should you do jfkfjdjfk or is it acceoptable to do fjkfjkfjk even at higher levels?

anything is acceptable but I recommend jfdjfdjfd or fjkfjkfjk

in other words I recommend starting with one side for reds and the other for blues, although I personally play using only my right hand when possible

Is this still applicable to songs with a super high BPM? My hand tends to get tired or just starts to trip over the notes when i dont alternate hands for long streams of DDK's
Wonderful guide, thanks
It's helping me alot. But how do you not get eye cancer when you play taiko? I often keep mes the colours because of the scrolling being to fast for my eyes T_T
[KEMU]
great Tuturial :D

Glad to see people like it! It's just a pity that I'm a bit too lazy to add new maps. But even so, they will appear. tetsutaro gave some suggestions.
This tutorial is just amazing! It helped me a lot! Thanks for it :D
Guys this guide is really amazing!
I am playing all those basic/advanced maps till I manage to fc them 5 times in a row and can see really great results already. I manage to fc the easier ones which I lacked reading/finger coordination before in my first tries without warmup and it is a really good feeling.

Thank you for this!
Deleted_3641262
i fucking love you all
This is so helpful, thank you!

Until "Bump of Chicken": Hey I'm actually okay at this!

"Bump of Chicken": Jesus Christ I'm terrible at this...

Time to practice!
Great job! This is very useful
Thank you for writing these thread as lesson / guide. It really help me full ^^ Beside at basic map practice, it has the beautiful song and I really enjoyed that ^^
But may I ask? Is there the skin that would make the beginner of Taiko player could understand it more better and faster (the skin that like at Catch the Beat mode style, it has one colored fruit and shape, so beginner could see it better)
Thank you

Vinc_Angel
i have a ps3 rockband drum kit. can i play osu taiko with it? and how?
kazama jin, I think you could played with that if you have a port to connected into your pc or laptop and configure your key config in osu options too.... I guess....
Topic Starter
Hi and sorry that I'm so late. I'm glad you like this!
About the skin, all I can do is to suggest you using the taiko skin by frank. But that link at the moment not available, so I guess I will re it soon again.
thank you

Holy crap, I've been trying so hard to learn taiko. You're awesome, man!
Just some patterns that, I think, should be added for advance level :)
DKK
KDD
DDDKD
KKKDK
This is so ridiculously useful, you have no idea.

Praise Ono.
It's very helpfull for training :)
But there aren't any traning with Big Dong and Big Kat. It's not so esay for some peoples. I think just one traning in Basic and in Advance will be good ;)
Topic Starter
Oh, you are right. I will add such maps now since there are some good maps which train your finish-note gameplay!

Edit: I've added three beatmaps which contain a lot of finishers but also other tricky patterns such as 1/6 or streams:
  1. Ellie Goulding - Burn [Oni ★8] (finisher gameplay available)
    https://osu-ppy-sh.tvgratuite.org/b/351271 (Nashmun)
  2. Black Raison d'etre - INSIDE IDENTITY [Ura Oni ★10] (finisher gameplay available)
    https://osu-ppy-sh.tvgratuite.org/b/280103 (aabc271)
  3. LindaAI-CUE - Norudon2000 [Ura Oni ★10] (finisher gameplay available)
    https://osu-ppy-sh.tvgratuite.org/s/335229 (OnosakiHito)
Additional to this, I've added the link to the Custom Taiko Characters Collection, so newbies can check out some of our taiko skins!
my problem is :o
i've hit the Big Don/Kat with 2 buttons, but i still got 1 point, than i check my replay, i just got 1x point not 2x, sometimes i can hit big don/kat perfectly :(

my timing when hit big don/kat is bad, how to improve my timing ? :?:

sorry for bad english

Mind to post a replay?
Also do mind that you get x2 (ig 600 at the start of a combo) scoring but your combo meter only goes up by one.

Saw them, everything is fine:

doing a big Don/kan with two buttons advances your combo counter by only 1 but you get double the score of a normal don/kan.

Doing even one of the advanced levels using alternation can be so hard and frustrating. Any tips?

Don't give up.
Topic Starter
Pretty much what Noobita says, as plain as it sounds! Learning to coordinate your fingers is not easy, so it needs some good amount of time until one is able to alternate. But the time you invest in learning it is absolutely worth. So all I can suggest is to play those advanced levels and maybe search for some maps which contain these kind of patterns.

Thinking about it, I should add way more maps into this project, especially ranked maps.
https://osu-ppy-sh.tvgratuite.org/b/72785&m=1
My favorite map for excessive triplet reading practice!
Has every tripletpattern except for dkd (almost no kdk too) and plenty of those right after each other in snailspeed which makes it relatively easy to get used to.
Playing this + the Abekobe version (maybe you could link the map converter by qoot for practice purposes too?) gives a really good grasp at reading triple patterns and is still not very fast when played with DT.
Thank you so much OnosakiHito! I wanna be pro taiko guy! :3 o3o I wish you be my taiko teacher in real life :3 >u<

Thank you <3
Wow, I'm glad I found this. It's awesome to have these foundations and to build on them~
That's a great tutorial for a Taiko beginner like myself. I'll definitely be using that.

...
On a side note, how the hell am I supposed to combine both of my hands while playing? I'm getting better accuracy on Cory in The House (The only song I'm able to play, lmao) using just one of my hands (if you know what I mean), but when I try both: it turns into a disaster.

Some general advice for everyone starting off:

It happens. If you really want to strengthen your other hand, try playing completely with your other hand; it'll take a while to get used to or even play anything and your accuracy will drop, but don't be afraid of retrying. When you're more comfortable and can control your other hand properly, try playing with both hands.

What I suspect is the real problem in your case and a major obstacle in everyone's Taiko career, however, is getting used to patterns and playing with both hands.
If it's patterns you're having problems with (e.g. triplets) then it's a good thing to consider what hand you'll be using if you alternate. For instance, for ddk, you'll hit d with your right hand, then d with your left, then k with your right (vice versa if you start with your left hand). Practice. Repeat until you're comfortable with playing the pattern. Play it faster. Play it until it's second nature. This is how you can acquire a pattern so that when you recognise one, you can play it easily.

I myself use one hand a lot and use the other only for streams when it's necessary... (very frowned upon play-style involving extensive single-tapping at 200+ BPM)
That being said it's still important to get used to playing with both hands because while you might be able to sustain with one hand into muzukashiis, Taiko is simply not playable at 'pro' level with only one hand.

Good luck with Taiko! :D
Awesome guide :D
Very comprehensive as it leads from beginner to advanced, really

this seems like the holy grail for Taiko beginner 8-)
Topic Starter
I second tkdLolly's previous post.

On another note, maybe I overtook it with Vajra. It was planed to add more maps to get to such level, but I never came to it. Haha
Should probably really add more easier maps which are also ranked to give beginners even more examples.

Now I can play properly and instantly have nice songs at my level because of the beginners pack, thank you.
thx u, this post is really helps me!
thank you for the maps and techniques great work!! :)
puush links are dead for Extreme training and Extra training. Anyone able to re-host?
Topic Starter
Weird, these push links were never removed. I've just re-ed them. Thank you for noting it!

New maps should be ed some time too. Hm.
Advanced training link is dead.

Edit: I mean, this one http://puu.sh/649ck
Wait, so is it better to map one side to dons and the other to kats (ddkk), or should I just stick with kddk?

Edit: Also, I'm having a lot of trouble with dddkkkdddkkk. My hands keep doing dddkkddkkdd instead...

Yea, I'm still searching for it and I can;t find it anywhere either. Looks like I have to practice the pattern without the map for sure.
When he gonna update the 3 step? Still waiting. If someone have ddk, kkd Pattern Training plz pm me! Thx ;)

Many people PM'd me. I will it soon! Had no access to my osu! folder for quite some time, da don.
Thank you so much! You must be really busy person. Have a good day! ♥

Thank you for this. I just changed from ddkk to dkdk and this is helping me a lot :D
:!: i play dkkd this practice mapsets are the best :!:
Topic Starter
Very glad to know that. Hopefully I can update the beatmap list soon as well.
Amazing maps, love it, thanks!

Has the star rating changed in these years or does the star mean something else?
Topic Starter
Those star raitings reflect the raiting in Taiko no Tatsujin and have nothing to do with the SR in osu!taiko.
Let's say, on first look, those raitings make only sense if you have more maps to compare their difficulty with each other.
Thanks for the tutorial.
I can't the last song
DJ TOTTO VS TOTTO - Vajra [Inner Oni ★10]
That stream is just too difficult for me.....
thx for the guide! i'm still stuck at dddkkkdddkkkddd tho but still training~
will try to Taiko again after reading this...
thanks 😄
Thank you for making this guide, This is very helpful :D
I hope I can improve my skill :)
Anyone have any tips or a full guide on how to stream. I'm trying to start playing Inner Oni's and I can do basic streams such as ddkkddkk... or ddddkkkkddddkk... but anything that gets complicated i get stuck on and start spamming (ddkdkdddkddkdkkkkdkkddkdk)
Thanks for the guide <3
thanks! this is good
this is really good I appreciate it! I decided to go back to basics and relearn how to play not just from playing but actively train a bit but it would be good to find a stream practice forum.

Thanks again btw!!!

I believe it is also pretty outdated. We have a better one, the new and improved one. So why stepping back using old methods of learning while there's more effective one?
This one? Can't believe I didn't find it until now.

Any time I want to force somebody to start taiko and they give in I tell them to use this.
Helped me a lot as well after I switched to kddk and needed to get startet from ground up again.
It's so good to have this.

The pattern practice seems like it'll be very useful!

I was wondering, would you be able to suggest featured artist beatmaps to aim to full combo before moving to the next step of lessons?
