I just tried it and i got the Same issue, sadly...
which issue?
The same as the person above me when I posted that. No tearing, implying some sort of vsync/buffering is going on, (the non-exclusive fullscreen thing?) no matter what frame limiter is set to, and very small stuttering that makes it really annoying to play mania since the scrolling notes don't scroll smoothly any more.
Have you tested since the last post?
Im playing at uncapped fps and 120 in menu and still have the feeling its not as responsive as a real fullscreen. could be me though! Cant spot any tearing, what also could be me.

And the Bug where i cant change my res remains.
Problem Details:
When in fullscreen (OpenGL 1366x768), opening the song setup in the editor causes the dialog box to multiply infinitely.
You must exit osu through Task Manager when this happens.
Not confirmed if it could be replicated or if this post is a duplicate.

Youtube HTML doesn't work too :(

osu! version: 20150422.3cuttingedge
Sometimes when i exit editor mode with a custom skin, the cursor turns into a white box:
not really program breaking, but kinda annoying

also, still experiencing missing texture problems mentioned in previous post
I can't do blankets anymore ;(

sorry for repeats if this is already mentioned

b20150422.3cuttingedge
The White box reminds me of something: Top right corner in main menut doenst shows the song but instead a white box jsut like the cursor. Happens randomly.

Tested just now, nothing changed. I also don't have any of the alt-tab problems other s are reporting.

obs(Open Broadcaster Software) cannot catch anything with the latest cuttingedge version.
I've tried stable and beta, obs can catch both.
It works for me.

Make sure you have the latest version of OBS installed, and check the Game Capture settings (select osu! in the application list, and check "Stretch image to screen" to fix the image not being the right size)
I realized that I was using Window Capture, which OpenGL games have issue with. I switched to Game Capture and it works fine.

Yes, this is a duplicate, but no worries. ;)
Also, I can confirm. I don't recall how to replicate the infinite window issue. In any case, with any popup window, osu! minimizes, and if it is clicked, it closes.
Oops. Nevermind, it's fixed. Thanks. :)

PS: Thanks for fixing sliders in editor. :)
So i updated my osu! to the new Cutting edge and this is what happened after restart

I''m gonna try to uninstall and reinstall it. I tried the "help.txt" didn't work

EDIT: Reinstalling works for me :/
And... I still can't update.

Screenshot:
I felt small lags while playing, especially when I was looking at the approach circle.

This fix did not fix it for me. I switched back to cuttingedge build and onto the "Vsync" option, and now my frame rate is not limited properly. The FPS counter in the corner of the screen is displaying 100-150 fps (my monitor is 60Hz so it should be limiting at 60fps in vsync, which it still correctly does in stable build). It's acting the same way as "Unlimited".

uh. okay.
I've been getting this thing where I will edit a map, but the second I open the Song Setup window, Osu! minimizes and proceeds to spawn infinate song setup windows in the upper left of my screen until it lags out and crashes my PC.

Hmm... Have you updated to the latest cutting edge build? I and others have experienced the same issue in the previous build (minus the PC crashing). However, since the last update, this issue has been resolved for me. I don't know, are others still experiencing this issue?

If it still continues, try windowed. That should help you at least for now.

  1. Osu! resizes the monitor it's run on to 1024x768
Adding onto my last post (issue under WINE): It seems like it tries to swap the resolution of the two monitors. My large monitor gets set to 1024x768 and they both get put into panning mode with a virtual 1920x1080 resolution. That is, I have a 2048x768 visible area at all times spread across both my monitors, mapped to a virtual 2944x1024 area that can be scrolled with the cursor.
There doesn't seem to be a fullscreen/windowed toggle, which is unfortunate.

edit: switching to the beta channel gives me best of both worlds - working osu with no screen resolution changes, and borderless mode that s losing focus under wine. I'll stay there for the time being.

Same issue here as i said earlier.
- Had broken textures (white boxes on hitcircles/sliders, and main menu triangles didn't work (can't exactly what was wrong; i'll update later if I try it out again)

- No exclusive fullscreen mode (not sure if intentional or not; preferably I'd like to have exclusive fullscreen over borderless though)

- As a result of no fullscreen mode; AMD VSR resolutions aren't usable (which isn't a huge concern at all for a majority of people/cases; pretty sure nobody cares about downsampling osu! :p)

- osu! started on the non-primary screen (I use 3 monitors; center is primary, but osu! started on the left monitor; haven't tried using the cfg to change this, but Stable and Beta builds automatically choose center)
I've got the same problem as VeilStar over here: p/4078997

It's like a 1 or 2 frame black screen over all screens (not just the one osu runs on) and only when using the same resolution as the monitor I'm playing on.

Hit me up devs if you need more details/tests :3

Hello again. So I don't know if this is already a known issue or not, but in spectator mode, the skip button remains during game play. I this occurring in previous builds. Unfortunately, I do not know how to replicate, except that it appears to be random.

This was just after updating to the latest cutting edge build.

While it's not quite clear what "Various exclusive fullscreen issues" means exactly, it didn't seem to do anything for me at least. It still looks and stutters the same as before.

Can confirm this happening randomly on IRC, PMs and channels.

Also, game minimizes upon losing focus on native screen resolution (borderless windowed mode) only and it's getting extremely annoying

seriously why would you even go the oGL way if you already had DX figured out
I see some serious tearing post-switch

My problem just happened again and I'm not sure why. Each time I let cutting edge receive an update not of the beatmaps load when I try to play. The beatmap count not be loaded successfully notification displays. It fixes itself when I go back to a different build and update to cutting edge. It doesn't affect my debug build, possibly because it doesn't receive files in this way.
so this is the go to for posting CE build issues eh?

well, i would like to report a still on-going issue with the triangles. after a while of running, FPS drops down from greater then 130 to around 30-40 fps. on top of that, my computer gets hot. all this happens after a couple minutes of runtime. it isnt thermal throttling becuase whenever that happens, my fps drops down to about 3-5fps at couple-second intervals.

usually thermal throttling or overheating doesn't happen unless i play demanding games like crysis, battlefield, mirrors edge, ETC.; and even then, i have my laptop sitting on a cooling pad

i thevileone mentioned that the performance issue was fixed. but i wonder if certain GPU's still have a compatability issue.
-----

i run unlimited FPS with directx render. i dont run opengl
all the eye candy is disabled (shaders, lighting effects, you name it) so i can run osu with no FPS drops.
i use Veilstars skin on his page.

i run a DELL INSPIRON N7110 16:9 widescreen laptop

Foolish me. Why don't I use the search function on the website? ...

Anyway, I thought this was an isolated incident restricted to a certain beatmap of mine, but popup windows in the editor (both borderless and bordered) remain inactive. I guess this is a rehash of what PolkaMocha already reported.

Strangely, this was fixed for me (see my response to PolkaMocha), but then suddenly began to reoccur. I don't if this was just after I updated to a newer build or what.

Also, this has happened across beatmaps and computers, just something to note.
Those "various exclusive fullscreen issues" seem to make osu! minimize when alt tabbed or "loses focus" as said earlier. Which is rather inconvenient and annoying now.
BossKey isn't working properly in fullscreen.
I also have the screen tearing issue in the latest cutting edge build. VSync, however, works fine for me but since I can't really play with that delay I will probably just go back to the stable build until the issue is fixed.

OS: Windows 7 SP1 x64

U: AMD FX-8320 (8 cores @3.50 GHz)

GPU: Nvidia GTX-660

Screen: Acer S242HL 60Hz (Playing fullscreen, 1920x1080)
I don't know what happened to cutting edge build, but now, I can't put it anymore into fullscreen mode, and that makes it not very smooth, and add a very noticeable input lag making cutting edge build not enjoyable. I'll switch to beta as it still can be put to fullscreen, but if someday this comes to stable it'll meens I'll have to stop playing because of this input lag. My FPS are not realy low, they are like 250ish (They were 300ish with DirectX fullscreen before and still are on Beta or Stable) but my cursor act strangely, like it's delayed and that makes the game almost unplayable. Also, when looking auto playing, I had the feeling that framerate was not stable and had some very short lag spikes.

If you have some idea why I'll put my system specs here :

Windows 8.1
16GB of RAM
Intel Core i7 4702MQ
Nvidia GT-750M with optimus

You should be getting above 300fps with those specs, using only the integrated graphics. Try using only the integrated graphics of the U instead of the Nvidia GPU (GPU's that use optimus seem to have memory bandwidths much lower than their specifications).
I have some REALLY bad tearing while playing. especially while spinnin my whole screen looks liek its cut into 3 differnet parts and glued again together... xD
V Sync is no option due to the input lag.. It WASNT like this before!

This is intended, for now at least, as OpenGL doesn't properly fulscreen. The current borderless should act as 'real' fullscreen though. Though if you have input lag while playing it doesn't. Is it like this on both your dedicated and integrated GPU? (Just wondering.)

Serious question to devs (in general, especially whoever came up with this idea): why ditch DX in favor of oGL? Literally the only advantage is (better?) Linux , but as a dev, I simply do not and more importantly cannot care about Linux
(also maybe macs but I'm not too sure on this one. Didn't peppy halt the development on the mac version?)

Offering for Linux isn't worth it if the other platforms suffer from it in any way - be it an API you can no longer use or a dependence you used to have that you had to get rid of because Linux.

Let me put it this way: All linux distros, combined, somehow manage to peek a bit over 1.5% global market share. Last I checked, Windows 7 alone had over half
There's really no problem in trying to all platforms, but I don't see why OpenGL has to be forced just because of Linux if that's really the case. Can't it just be optional to choose between them? It was never really an issue to have it optional before. Granted that the old oGL wasn't that great afaik. But that shouldn't be an issue anymore.
peppy already answered why wants to use OpenGL:

cross platform , better performance on all PCs (eventually), future proofing.
The performance increase apparently needs some more testing, which is why there'll be DirectX on stable/beta until OpenGL is at least as good as DirectX, I think.

Thing is, it's really not that DX > oGL or anything, it's all down to the implementation

and the other thing is, osu!'s oGL implementation looks really, really bad.

As for choosing between them, there are quite a few gaping problems that arise with having different implementations for the same thing in different versions of the game. You could end up with two completely distinct games, code-wise

Not sure if it's a cutting edge related issue, or if I need to re-install, but I just wanna throw it out there.

Just disable the shaders in the options next time you open the game.
They're not working at the moment.

If you have Softening Filter on, you'll need to open your configuration file and set BloomSoftening to 0.

Odd... It just re-s the game trough the osu!updater and then start osu! for me, instead of bringing up the recovery/repair/settings window.
I have no idea what has an hasn't already been posted on this thread since I don't want to read 44 pages, but I'm having an issue now with every "transition". I mean, basic fades, or when I go to press f2 to get a random song, the game bugs out and displays random garbage like this:

It looks like what you would typically get with a bad video card, but I can confirm that my video card(s) are in fact working properly. It does this consistently, and will keep displaying the same garbled image as long as osu stays open and I trigger one of these "transitions", then if I restart osu, it just consistently displays some new garbage. Not sure what's going on, would be willing to try to help debug what's going on if someone wants to point me in the right direction and tell me how to go about debugging the issue properly.
Restart osu! to force an update and post if it still happens (I think this is/was a problem with shaders because the resources didn't get updated correctly).

I get this when turning on shader effects in the cuttingedge build. (Though for rakosi2 it turns black.) Anyhow, turn that setting off untill it's fixed.

Edit:

Still getting the issue here (after updating).

Aren't shader effects just not ed by OpenGL? Because this has always been the case before.

It seems to render shader effects to the wrong render target, an uninitialized one instead of the backbuffer.

Rotate form has unclickable buttons. Alt tab triggers tab functions when alt tabbing back into the game.

serious question, how do you even output from an unitialized "buffer" without something noticing the fuckup

Actually it's probably copying from the wrong render target instead of the backbuffer, instead of rendering to the wrong RT. Sorry about that.

I did this and the problem still persists

Oh, okay. I guess this makes more sense, though I'm really sleepy right now

I'm genuinely interested in seeing the code behind the game. So disappointed this is closed source :(
Update and let me know if the issue is still occurring, I've fixed up some things that could've caused this issue.
The issue seems to be fixed. Had the same problem as all the othr here but now osu works fine again for me.

Yup, the issue is fixed, thanks!
Issue(s) in this thread have been addressed by the following changes:
  1. Don't minimize osu! when losing focus in borderless fullscreen mode. (Tom94)
  2. Fix dialog windows being impossible to focus. (Tom94)
The changes will be applied to builds newer than b20150427.5cuttingedge.

Please follow up in this thread if you believe more work needs to be done to fix the mentioned issues. If they have not yet been resolved, please provide any new details that may have arisen after this build.
Now there is again the option to activate the fullscreen mode but if i activate it it seems to take no effect. Additional to that after every restart of osu the option is disabled again even if i enabled it before.
I think I love you right now, Tom

Confirm fix on borderless fullscreen minimizing

Are you using integrated graphics?

Could not reproduce. Fullscreen, however, did crash Windows Explorer, incorrectly detect my native screen resolution as 3840x2160 and most importantly break my multi-monitor setup. Twice.

It's unusable as-is because it screws up the position of my second screen. Not that I would use it over borderless, though

I switched back to CU just to see and yes the option does nothing and is untickied after a restart. However, it dosn't crash explorer and detected native resolution is good.

About my perfs issue, it's still the same, using integrated intel or the 750M changes nothing. In other builds, using borderless even in Dx is doing issues too (Lower input lag than OGL builds but still having some VS fullscreen, and having some kind of annoying micro lags that I can't realy explain but it's there even if FPS is high) so if true fullscreen never comes to OGL then I think I'll always have problems whith OGL builds.

EDIT :

Okey, so I found something about the performance issue... It's actualy caused by a system file of windows 8 called dwm.exe which seem to be used by windows aero. Using some process manager, I suspended winlogon and killed dwm.exe. Windows was not realy happy about running in this state, however the cutting edge build had no input lag anymore and after a few lag spikes it ran at constant 300 fps like the normal build runs on fullscreen... To be sure it was not placebo effect, I unsuspended winlogon which instantly restarted dwm, and the input delay and micro lags were back...

are you able to provide a copy of the skin folder which was triggering this issue?

Was wondering why my textures were broken, but it seems to be because of another program hooking it's overlay into osu! (Evolve). Upon closing Evolve, textures are fine.

Not sure if it's something osu! devs can fix or Evolve's devs (overlay worked fine on Stable and pre-OGL cutting-edge builds).

I'm using a Radeon HD 7850 on Windows 8.1 with Catalyst 15.4 if it matters.

on another note, playing like this is interesting :p
Since the 27.04.2015 builds i experience many many microstutters, like one every few seconds. Didn't change anything in my setup.

EDIT: Didn't have any broken sliders since then though C:

When using fullscreen windowed, after switching focus back to game, keyboard input will not be counted for up to about 2 seconds

Running ce20150428.6
Since one of the latest cutting edge builds (from a few days ago?), the game sometimes crashes (i.e. the "error, click here to close program" dialog) when I press Ctrl-R to restart a map. I can't reproduce this bug at will though.

do you have vsync on? This happened to me with vsync on.
Vsync and frame limiter are disabled. Also playing in borderless exclusive/fullscreen.

With DX (stable/beta) it works fine.
Would love to test a build from 26.04. to be sure it's not my pc magically acting up with OGL. :3

I've been having this issue as well. The game stops and "osu! has stopped working" window pops up.
It seems to be happening a lot more with tilde though.

Then i dont know what nK.ini Files are. There are no Mania File settings in my Skin, ini so i dont really know how to play CE with my Skins ;(
This has been fixed.
Issue 1:
  • If you have a lower fullscreen resolution than a windowed resolution set for osu! (which you can easily do by changing the resolution while in fullscreen and then turning fullscreen off), when switching from Fullscreen to Windowed mode osu! does not change the monitor's resolution back to what it was, but does change the window resolution. Effectively resulting in your entire screen being the screenshot below.
    p/4110313

Issue 2:
  • When in the cuttingedge build, if you select a different release stream and wait for it to finish ing the 'click to restart' button will appear. If you then go into the editor and back to the main menu, this button will be gone and osu! will re- the files again. This does not happen on the Stable build.
This has been fixed.
Issue 3:
  • Well, this is a known issue already, but if you go to Play -> Multi while having the chat hidden, the first line (that says "Attempting to channel..." will appear as a block of the colour the text is normally in. It seems that if text is loaded before it can actually draw it will draw as a block.

This is annoying me. Whenever you change builds, it defaults my resolution to fullscreen, changes my s filter to all and sort mode to Rank. I will look into it at some point if someone doesn't get to it before me.
On the results screen you can interact with the back button even if there are other clickable objects drawn in front/on top of it (such as names in chat). This doesn't happen with any other buttons, strangely. Cutting-edge specific, as I tried it in Stable but couldn't replicate it there.
